The game is free to play but offers bonuses to players that pay. It consist of two planets which you can play on. Relic is the starting planet for new players and for non-payers once you hit level 22 (pr5) you'll be moved up to morgana prime which is the pro planet .You can buy up to 48 units and can use a squad of 6 at a time. You can upgrade your units which I'll discuss in the attribute section. There is a way to play for free and stay on the lower planet buy doing a build called system 21 where you buy 10 units from each division and as you max your units(lvl 25), you'll have a total of 100 attribute points to spend and be locked at level 21 in each division. The 4 divisions are Infantry, Mobile, Air, and Organic (Aliens). Attribute points get spent into 4 categories Tactics - For every 20 points spent you get an additional unit in your squad (ex 40/5/5/5 = 8 units) Clout - Get higher tech units at a lower level, as well as getting mks( ex mk1 mk2 mk3)faster. Education - Get better equipment sooner (ex Cpu, Engine,Energy,Wep,Arm ect.) Mech Ap - For every 2 points spent +1 to weight. There are two formulas that are used in the game to determine TL - Tech level which lets you no how much is needed to get advance equipment and UQ - Unit Quality which lets you no how much is need to upgrade unit class or mks. Edu/2+Unit lvl = TL (ex 12/2+25 = TL 31) Clout/2+Unit lvl + EQ (ex 50/2+25 = EQ 50) It is a very old game and each planet consist of 3 factions. The purpose of the game is to control different maps buy holding positions called a POC ( Point of Control) and battles can be won buy either grabbing all the pocs in a map, holding more pocs than the opposing team beore time expires . The graphics aren't up to par as some games, but it is a lot of fun. It involves a lot or strategy and coordination with your faction teammates. There's a lot more info that can be found in the game as well as checking out some clan websites www.sgtofu.com

I had the most fun when the crater had only one PoC and people would camp the shit out of it. Attacking that and taking it over was one of the most epic moments I've ever experienced. Tons of units blasting away while you are on the edge of death only needing to last just a few more seconds. Just when you think you've failed, fresh units arrive out of nowhere and you take it over. Eventually they made it multiple PoCs and it was never the same. Not sure if they ever went back to 1 PoC or not.

Fantastic game, its only major failure was the quickly dwindling player base once it went to subscriptions. I can't believe there haven't been any similar games by now, at least that I'm aware of =[

and the devs of the game have ceased to do anything about balance between factions and have pretty much neglected the game completely. anyone still play?

i've been in elites, dark knights, blood angels, strategists, 6days7nights, einherjar, and leaders of war before i finally went to nightwatch where i stayed and was council there for 3 years. shortly before quitting the game i left nightwatch to go to haven due to lack of competitive spirit in nightwatch, which i kind of regret doing because i left alot of friends behind. imagine if blizzard made a game like this, how amazingly awesome it would be. SG is the only MMORTS worth a shit, very groundbreaking game. if anyone is thinking about starting back up, message me here on teamliquid

It is a true gem and one of a kind. The only true MMORTS and it set the bar extremely high. If only some company picked the idea up and made a new game. The MMO market has grown a lot since then and has become a lot more mature. The market gets flooded with WoW clones. Make a MMORTS like this and you have gold. I would definitely play it.

funny that people were saying 6 years ago that this game was dead....where earlier today during peak TZ i saw close to 200 people logged in (less because of multi accounts but still). IT WOULD BE A MIRACLE TO REVIVE THIS GAME BACK TO ITS FORMER 500-1000 PLAYER ONLINE BASE. that was all it took for this game to be both fun and competitive. I actually thought about doing a big write-up about the game to attempt to draw teamliquid visitors, and i still might...the only problem is that leveling is difficult now because of the lack of population. and most people will get bored leveling....which means....people won't play. vicious cycle. This game is the best MMORTS ever made, hands down. It was a truly balanced game with an RPG element that kept you coming back to play more...the competitive scene in this game was TRULY COMPETITIVE. not to the same extent as e-sports as we know it today but people took tournaments SERIOUSLY in this game, and the 1st-3rd place medals that appeared on your character if you placed in the tournaments actually meant something... it's truly a shame blizzard didn't take this idea and create a better game with the same ideas that shattered galaxy had.

but if you're trying to write something up to convert some folks into players, i'd recommend leaving out the all-caps, though i understand your excitement. as i love and talk about this game a lot myself, i played the NA and KR releases and strongly preferred the korean one. it scratched an RPG itch and was more involving than most online games at its time. it also had an RTS feel like starcraft and i enjoyed using a lot of micro tricks i used in sc in this game. in my opinion the game is extremely dated, extremely niche, and only panders towards old fans of the game. if it is completely free, that also means it is only a matter of time before it is taken down officially. i think it stays as a game we talk about in memory. as for other games, people have tried to take its idea. there are a few that come to mind, the most well known one probably being End of Nations that ended up getting cancelled by Trion. the trend in gaming these days is social games. you can talk about work, life, and other such light talk while on discord and play a generally straightforward game once you've grasped the basics. the barrier to entry is just quite low. this game unfortunately goes against that grain these days. there's clear progression and everything, but you have to go at a grinding pace to get what you want, and then there's no guarantee you get to play with your friends or even now get a game going in the first place. i imagine there will be a lot of downtime between games sometimes. don't get me wrong, i hope people will learn from the examples this game set (on what is fun) and eventually a game producer remembers this game, but until one of us does it justice or the trend miraculously shifts, we will never understand the same gameplay this game once provided.
