The trees always grow back relatively quick too. I always use a lot of wood products, less metal and stone.

I dug down soooo many floors, but I was never able to find any magma. How many floors can you expect to have to dig until you hit magma pools? And is it a whole layer, or is it only in spots of the layer?

How many floors can you expect to have to dig until you hit magma pools? And is it a whole layer, or is it only in spots of the layer? Unless you're at a volcano, or you get a lucky site with lava founts in cave 1 or 2, you'll most usually have to dig down to below cave 3 to hit the magma sea. Based on your world generation options, this can easilly be 60-80 z-levels downwoards. And of course, once you find the magma, you have to either split your fort into your old close-to-surface part and new close-to-magma-forges-part, unless you want to recreate your entire old fort further down, which is a pain in itself. Or you could of course figure out pumpstacking and get the magma higher up. And then there's the lag from having discovered 100 z-worth of levels plus magma stack liquid physics having to recalculate all the time. Such joy! I'm not a fan of lower level magma workshops myself.

![]() edit: not to derail but ZZT is an amazing open-ended ASCII game as well. Old as shit but fun.

I believe he was taken by a strange mood. It's usually a good thing, since it only comes during a time in the game where you usually have all (or most) workshops and most necessary materials.

Losing is fun! seriously though, setting up farms in the frozen wasteland of my starting zone is proving to be more of a challenge than I had anticipated... EDIT: Anyone up for a succession game? ^_^
