![]() Step 1: Find out what they do after a divekick. Call it X. Choose whatever divekick follow-up you want to get this information: a throw, a 2nd divekick, a cr.LK, or just block. Step 1a: If your follow-up lost to their X, then the next time you divekick in, anticipate X and punish them for it. Step 2: Now your opponent should have learned not to do X anymore. Turn their instinct against them and the next time you divekick, follow it up with the one thing X counters. Step 3: Now your opponent will be feeling confused, because their instinct is telling them to do X and not to do X at the same time. Usually they'll try doing X again, so I suggest countering it again. Or feed the confusion by doing something completely different the next time you jump in, e.g. EX Messiah Kick if they don't block. Step 4: Do maybe a couple more divekick mixups, then stop. Your last mixup should end with whatever X counters. Then find some other way to mix them up, e.g. cr.LK (low) vs forward-MK (overhead), with lots of cr.LP to keep them locked down. Step 5: After a period of no divekick mixups and lots of other pressure to think about, they'll do one of two things. Either they'll forget everything they learned and revert back to X, or they'll remember only the last thing you hit them with post-divekick and try to counter that, which is also X. Now start the divekick mixups all over again, beginning with the counter to X. ![]() Concrete example: suppose their X is "throw". Then you might do the following: - divekick - divekick (they try to throw and lose) - divekick (they try to throw and lose) - throw (they try to block or press jab and lose) - divekick - EX Messiah Kick (they try to throw or press jab and lose) - divekick - throw (they try to block or press jab and lose) - avoid using divekicks for ~15 seconds - repeat Notice the last thing I did after a divekick and before repeating the cycle was a throw. So if they don't simply revert back to doing throws, the other likely thing is that they'll remember only the last thing that hit them after a divekick and try to counter it, which is also a throw. ![]() Also, the reason that I did three divekicks at the start, expecting them to attempt two throws, is because the divekicks happen so fast that most people won't learn to stop throwing until it's already failed twice. On the other hand, EX Messiah Kick gives them a lot of time to think about their mistake. Because of this extra "psychological damage", EX Messiah Kick is very likely to make them block after your next divekick.

Dictator: 6f startup, -1 on block, 120 damage Ryu: 9f startup, -6 on block, 110 damage Chun Li: 11f startup, -5 on block, 100 damage Sagat: 7f startup, -3 on block, 110 damage (only counting the 2nd hit, full move is really 5*2 startup and 40*110 damage) But as for actual strategy, I obviously don't know much about him yet. I'm not going to bother asking about matchups at this point, but does anybody have any tips or good tactics? In which matchups and situations is it worth fishing for j.mp x 2 -> ultra and lv.2-3 FA -> ultra? When to use psycho crusher rather than scissor kicks? Is the best cross-up j.mk, and is it worth attempting often or just on occasion? Against somebody without a good DP-like move or lariat, what to do after a blocked headstomp--which of (1) retreat, (2) land behind into throw/low attack, (3) P followup to hit, (4) whiff P into throw/low attack, are worthwhile? At least I've realized that slide after knockdown and empty jump devil reverse both aren't so hot in this game.

I'm not aware of any real combos other than the painfully obvious (j.hp cl.hp xx hp crusher punish, and *insert a couple links* xx scissors). Actually, I don't even know what the most consistent link into scissors would be. What follows up a FA besides ultra/super? Any worthwhile FADC combos? I'd imagine you'd cancel scissors into another scissors combo? edit: oh yeah, and of course which other links are worthwhile. I guess cr.lk, s.lk, s.hk is possible, as is cr.mp, s.hk.
