d.mk , cb~f + p is probably what you are doing.
Buffer the input as follows: Cd/b + mk , f + p
So: Hold down-back, med kick (When still holding down-back), and then hit forward + p right after you press medium kick.
yeah, that was exactly what I was doing, but the forward roll is getting blocked right after i do medium kick on crouch.

If it gets blocked it means your not doing it fast enough.

This is my first 2d fighter that i am really trying to learn (before i had just play 3d ones mostly, soul calibur, doa, tekken etc etc) and these combos are kicking my ass. The timing compared to most 3d fighters is very very strict, took my a while to just cancel normals into specials let alone do any combos. But i think i am coming along nicely, picking Akuma as my main for now, the level of satisfaction i got with with doing a jump in.hk > s.firce > light huricane kick > ex shoryuken for the first time was something just short of orgasmic. that and people online who have never seen akuma before saying "OMG WTF IS THIS SHIT@@!!!!" upon seeing his ultra.

Hows everyone doin in ranking? Im up to like 2550-ish right now: [ hard to find games with 4 bars and I really never feel like puttin points on the line for a 3 bar game that could possibly lag like shit
wish the netcode was honestly better in this but at least 4 bar is anywhere from decent to nearly perfect

i played one session got 1007 with 70% win and then stopped zzz.
then i went to figure out viper and sakura more

Same here regarding the netcode  . Online is not as good as SFHD so the range of people you can play becomes limiting. Takes too long from connecting to opponent and starting the match! Thankfully arcade mode kills time else I would never play SF4 online again. I would know my real ranking if people would stop disconnecting every time they lose. First time online, 7 straight match won, but all disconnects! All on pad!

so yea ive never played SF before this (guess my childhood was taken over by CS 1.4 + 1.5 sadly) but I'm TERRIBLE like i can't even pull off the super/ultra combos for chun li
any tips on how to initally learn this game? like i cant even do the damn super/ultra combos. =(
im playing on PS3 but its hard for me to do some of the combos i keep accidentally angling when i hit left or right and she'll just or something because it will register as a diagonal when im not even hitting up

Doing Chun-Li super/ultra shouldnt be that hard. Charge back 2 or whatever seconds, then forward back forward kick. shit should come out ez

Ive now started looking at the latency measure thing, because the last match I played had roughly a half second delay on all inputs, including even blocking -_- Most matches seem pretty good though
I laughed at the "Playing to Win" achievement

play really defensive, jump over his single sonic boom and hk + sweep. and c.hk when he does his spin kicks.
when he is near, use ultra if you have one.
this coming form a guy who played normal and took ~15 tries.
