This implies the frost giants may have some sort of actual basis in the lore. It may be something like folklore to the characters? Perhaps how the earth used to be frozen over another ice age occurred and these beasts roamed it? Maybe they are a type of infernal that was cascaded with ice? or like a long ago version of infernals who used to be more peaceful? some hold it as a memento of the way things used to be and how they hope they will one day return. I dont really know... but im interested! This looks like that Overwatch character. The Kickstarter is going crazy. Apparently the demand for it really was as huge as they said in the announcement :D

In the other campaign clip they showed it has become apparent the entire land is covered in snow, mountain peaks visible in the background. Frost Giants inhabiting the land makes total sense (or once inhabited.) The doll may in fact just be a cute depiction of a very real thing. Sort of like a teddy bear to bears. 3rd race?

This probably explains why guys like Asmongold and Esfand are not playing. Here is Frost Giant's statement: "Frost Giant is a small team with a limited budget–no one has asked for payment and everyone is doing this out of genuine support of the future of RTS. We are incredibly grateful." I think they were allowed to play for just about 2 hours anyway? And Asmongold definitely wasn't used to playing an RTS and it showed. Which is fine and doesn't make the game look bad - but I can see why he stopped playing quite soon because of it. He had a hard time keeping up with all the stuff he had to do. Esfand did somewhat better and seemed way more enthusiastic about the game. He didn't know the game either, but he didn't look as out of place in the genre as Asmongold. It was worthwhile for Frost Giant anyway. The kickstarter made a huge leap once Asmon + Esfand started the game. And that was probably the purpose of having them stream the game. For people here that are more used to RTS, the next streams will definitely be more interesting with some RTS players joining the fray - and the servers working properly..

![]() why did you take the bait? Perhaps the poster is saying "the silence is deafening". There is a silence which is quite sad though. Samwise Didier left Blizzard and not a word of his exit was spoken. I guess he is not very popular around here.

It's pretty common to 'under-set" the goal, because no gamer news source is going to pick up "Stormgate already 25% of their goal after the first 24 hours!" but will run "Stormgate hits 10x their kickstarter goal after two days" or whatever. There's probably other pyschology behind it also, I'm just not smart enough to track it all. I would be surprised if they expected anything less than 3-5m from the kickstarter.

It is still very impressive for them to get this level of support for a f2p game. I don't think any other Kickstarter for a f2p game came even close. It's not going to be fully f2p tbf. Campaigns and other content still might cost money. I'm honestly more surprised about the amount of hype there seems to be for the game. I thought so far the game looks super bland, there is nothing exciting and most advertising was to a very limited audience, via channels like Tastosis for example. Apparently, I'm quite out of touch in this case.

Relative to SC2:WoL there is almost zero hype around this game. Here is the google trends comparing Starcraft to Stormgate. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=starcraft,/g/11t2sc1h_p&hl=en-GB Hopefully, Frost Giant can pull it off.

* Quality of live improvements to 1v1 + slow down the gameplay a bit + increased defenders advantage to make it more forgiving/less apm-demanding while still leaving room for basic micro. The intention is that this will allow former RTS/competitive minded players to get a competitive RTS experience without being as stressed as in Sc2. * Create a strong coop experience for casuals. Leaving aside coop because I know nothing about this; can their 1v1 theory become succesful? Regardless of them making the game somewhat easier to play mechanically and more forgiving, there is still a knowledge learning barrier. People do need to spend effort learning. Usually the way you get people to commit to effort is because they can see a big reward at the end. "If I practice these things then I can maybe one day become X good which will be awesome". Players can be motivated/hyped when served amazing gameplay/highlights. This is the case in all games, e.g. Fortnide, LOL, Dota, CS:GO, Overwatch etc. When I watch Clem play I get motivated and makes me want to play Starcraft 2 and git gut, even though I don't have time to do so. The question is - and I think we will get a much better idea on this in the coming days/weeks - does Stormgate have that? Is there anything with Stormgate where you desperately want to master certain aspects of the game - because doing so will be very fulfilling?

The warcraft and starcraft universe had such a good story and world that it's hard to compare. I would say Stormgate would really need that immersion factor to get my interest. A game can have the best gameplay in the world but if it looks and feels generic, doesn't really make me want to play it. I guess I have to wait and see until the game is actually released.

I guess I have to wait and see until the game is actually released. I ASSUME we'll get actual characters for some of these models at some point. You're very right that they're pretty uninteresting models imo... in the same way Warhammer space marines can be uninteresting if their faction information and history didn't exist (or you didn't know anything about it) I mean this in both the "Tychus is a marine and thereby contextualizes marines" sense of character AND the sense of probes/scv etc having 'character' from their voice lines. I'm excited by how accessible it looks like they're trying to make the game; getting any of my non RTS friends through the minefield of basic mechanical requirements was horrendous, so I'm curious if things like auto-adding unit types to control groups will bridge that gap and make the game less daunting to start.

The main pull of the game: we could always get into fun competitive games against players as lousy as us. Many Non-SC2 RTS games start off with lots of guppies and a few sharks. The guppies slowly leave the RTS game and move on to the next shiny new game out there. This leaves an aquarium with a lot of sharks. If you're one of the few remaining guppies then it is usually not much fun getting rolled in 7 out of 10 games. SC2 still has a lot of lousy players of varying skill levels on the ladder... and its still a metric tonne of fun.
