A new tactical RPG was just released by Focus Home Interactive.
Necromunda: Underhive Wars is set in the Warhammer 40k universe, where people live in humongous hive cities. It's a game about gang warfare on the subterranean levels of the city (basically, the higher you are in the city, the higher is your standard of living and below ground is pretty crappy).
It's a tactical RPG game focusing on this gang warfare. You lead your gang on missions, gather loot, level up and equip your gangers, gain territory etc.
As far as I've seen it's a pretty good representation of it's tabletop origins. Haven't played it much yet but it looks pretty good, the story (in the story mode) is engaging and I generally like it for what it is. My only concerns are that the UI is not the greatest (takes some getting used to, typical for cross-platform titles) and currently there are only 3 gangs available (Escher, Goliath and Orlock) out of 12+ in the TT.
If you like this kind of thing it's definitely worth checking out.
I'm about halfway through the campaign and I can definitely recommend it even for that. The story is pretty cool and the missions are varied and interesting (like the arena brawl where you can't use guns). Some of them I've had to attempt 2 or 3 times before I managed to "solve the puzzle". During the campaign you get to play as all of the 3 gangs so it's a great way to get a feel for them before hopping into custom gang and multiplayer.
Hint: During the story mode campaign don't bother looting stuff from enemies (unless you want to use them in this particular mission). So far it seems your gear is set to specific loadouts before each mission.
Finished the campaign. It should take about 15-20 hours depending on how you're doing.
Here are some issues I've run into during my playthrough (posting them here so you can avoid them before they're patched):
1. Crashed once (no biggie, there's autosave from your last action). 2. AI got stuck trying to charge my dude while not having a clear path to him (annoying, had to forfeit and restart. Try not to leave your fighters in confined spaces with multiple enemies around). 3. Could not finish a mission because I wasn't able to drop stuff at required location (turns out that if your fighter has some sort of aura active it's not possible for them to drop things. Just don't carry stuff with your heavies or other gangers that might have some active auras).
Overall pretty minor stuff in regards to bugs. The experience was very enjoyable and the story actually dragged me in (nothing too fancy but cool nevertheless). The characters in the story grew on me and I really liked them at the end.
I'll need to do some testing in regards to custom gangs and multiplayer now but I think it's a solid game even just for the story. I think you can complete the story, walk away from the game and not think you've wasted your money, which is a nice thing in this day and age - I miss titles that you could just play through once and be satisfied with it.
Getting started quite simple, but with a lot of play options. The verticality of the ground allows for nice things. The three clans are all cool, although a little more difference, and other gangs (but it will surely come in DLC) would not be too much: p The atmosphere is there, graphically it's great
Van Saar is out along with a ton of bug, performance and AI fixes. This game is getting a lot of love from the developer and is shaping to be one of the standout releases of 2020 for me. I especially like how the devs are actively engaging with the community and actually listen to the feedback.
Cawdor are out along with a ton of fixes again. Next update is supposed to add something to all gangs and improve all gameplay modes.
I must say that I'm really impressed by the amount of work this indie dev is putting into the game (wish CDPR did the same with their stuff). I think that you should buy their DLCs if you can even if you don't really plan on playing the game much, just to support people who actually care about the games they make (and the DLC are pretty cheap at like $5).
