The story arc of Troy going from dependent for continued life on his sister to independent of her was cool. That Troy independence arc resulting in the "Anointed" race of humans was really cool. Also, they should turn Ava heel. When the story makers shove a protagonist down the throats of the audience and it is greatly hated then the story maker must turn their protagonist heel. The WWE has been doing that since 1987 to great effect. Hulk Hogan was helicoptered into the US South as a conquering hero and everyone hated it. Solution? Turn him into the hated Hollywood Hogan. Ava needs to put a bullet in the back of Lilith's head. This game looks pretty good and a return to OG BL games (wtf was 3?!?!) Go to twitch.tv and watch people broadcasting BL4 on the PS5 and XBOX Series X. If you are satisfied with the FOV level, which you can not alter, then you might consider picking up the game. 80%+ of PC gamers are not happy with the FOV of the consoles and view it as too low. Gearbox altering the console version of BL4 by widening the FOV will wreck the performance on console; the performance on consoles is already bad.

I ended up getting a promo key for bl4 through someone who dies community work, so I still didn't buy it. I played it a ton though, already through the main story and prob around 70% of the side content. If I had known I would enjoy it this much, I would have bought it. To me it feels like a bit of a blend between the tone and scaling of bl1, with the action skill and augment direction of 3 taken up a notch. and the maps feel more like in 2, though not as good I would say. Much better than 3 though. The scaling also seems more in line with bl1 than 2 or 3, which is good. A powerful sniper still feels powerful, and apart from the bosses the enemies don't feel bullet spongy for the most part. The bossfights and fights in general have gotten so much better though its incredible. The addition of the grappling hook, double jump, and glide have added so much more I didn't expect that. I have some personal gripe with a bunch of the skilltrees, many of them are not appealing to me at all, and they made the least siren feeling siren of all the borderlands games, but she is still an amazingly fun to play sniper. I ended up really liking the story, here is where a lot of bl1 feeling comes from I think. You have a bit more serious but also bizarre tone, like with bl1, but the presentation is on the level of bl2/3, just less goofy. The main villain ofc can't keep up with handsome jack, but he is alright. You once again have things in the world to discover and to explore, vault symbols, lots of echo logs, dead bolts, caches... and often with some quite fun jumping puzzles. I have much more fun exploring than I had in bl3. There are some issues though. The performance was pretty bad for me. I rock some OC rtx2070 model that is somewhere between an rtx2070 and a 2070super. On the lowest settings I was getting 50-60fps, I had to utilise this https://github.com/artur-graniszewski/DLSS-Enabler/releases to enable framegen as the game seems to only support it for nvidia cards starting with the 40x series. I can now play the game at much higher settings with stable 80fps which is good enough for me. A friend of mine with a weaker pc and an amd card can also play fine with framegen, but also lower settings. I think its the kind of thing where you have to try it out for yourself and utilise the steam refund system if needed. The UI is just horrible. There are some bugs with the inventory system, and in general it feels really bad to use and I have not experimented nearly as much with weapons as I wanted to because I did not want to fiddle with the inventory. Small things like it not remembering what you sorted your inventory by, so when you open it, it will always be sorted by manufacturer. Weapons and items in general also feel much less distinguishable by look, but that might be a me thing. When I open my inventory I just see a bunch of futuristic looking guns that, apart from a few manufacturers, don't stand out that much visually. UVHM no longer requires a full new playthrough. You unlock the 5 uvhm levels with special missions and after that just turn it on like mayhem modifiers/OP levels from 2. Unlocking the first uvhm level also allows you to now create characters at lvl30 with uvhm already unlocked together with the lategame progression that comes with it (similar to badass ranks / the thing bl3 had. Stat boosts together with some active and passive perks you can slot). No mini map. Makes navigating the world and looking for stuff worse and ends up tempting you to navigate via the pathfinding your echo bot can do for you. Very much a personal thing, but gun gimmicks of 3 are back in full swing so once again there are no proper jakobs revolvers as they have to be balanced around the fact that you can just spam click. Give me back my 1hand sniper you cowards. Also limitation of what manufacturer can have what types of guns feel more severe, though at the same time this gets alleviated by "licenced parts", a mechanic that allows a gun to spawn with the gimmick of another manufacturer. This adds some crazy fun to trying out new guns, only held back by me not wanting to do any inventory management in this game... While the late game progression feels nice, it’s also per character. Any XP earned towards this new version of badass ranks only applies to that character. So basically no meta progression… Upgrades for your bank size are character specific, but the bank is shared across characters… yeah this gotta be an oversight. It means that if I have the bank maxed out on character 1, and fill it to the brim, character 2 who doesn’t have it maxed will be able to take stuff out, but not put anything back in because “their” bank is above capacity. There are also some QoL things that hurt immersion, but are overall probably good. Like to fight a boss again you now just put in some money at a special Moxy machine and you can go again, and you easily make back the money just from the bossfight loot. Makes farming much quicker and is probably no less immersive than going back to the menu and load again. But I don’t like it being “officially” part of the world now. Before I could just ignore it as me abusing some video game logic, now it has to fit in the world like the newU stations etc… Very much a personal thing, and for farming it is definitely so much better (especially given that loading into a game takes a bit of time…). In the same spirit, you can now only fast travel to special bases that you have set up, but can fast travel from anywhere by just opening the map. More QoL, but to me, having to run to a fast travel station felt more immersive. Sometimes it also feels like they cut some corners to squeeze their profit margin: Enemies can have modifiers kinda like the mayhem modifiers. So especially at the start you will encounter this games version of skags with elements on them, but all that is different for them is they got an elemental icon next to their name. No recolour nothing. That turned me off bigly at the start, until I got to the later regions and realised that there are "proper" elemental variants of other enemies, so maybe it’s just an unfortunate combination of the modifier system and this particular enemy. It also feels like they went cheap on the music though. I can't remember a single track that stood out to me, and a bunch of it is just ambient music that I often don't even notice. Combat music is also whatever. To make it worse, there is a single combat track that has a short throat singing section that reminds you of one of the best bl1 tracks, only for it to die down immediately. "World bosses": basically just a beefed up version of a regular boss. Spawns randomly, is marked by a sort of bubble in the world, you have to fight them in the bubble. Generic open world copy paste garbage, just straight up. Not a real named enemy, no story ties to the location they show up in, basically just a loot enemy. To me this feels incredibly cheap No red text blue/purple guns, and all your quest rewards are just generic. They added the ability to easily replay any quest without having to do savefile shenanigans or reset your entire play through, and then they remove one of the biggest incentives to do so. It also adds to the guns feeling more generic in general. The only red text items seem to be legendaries. Not a fan at all, and probably ties in with the world bosses being just variants of generic enemies. Feels like cheaping out on gun design UVHM levels add more modifiers to the enemies, basically like mayhem. Super not a fan, having this games version of a skag have a glowing invincibility or invisibility orb is just immersion killing to me. With some enemies it would be fine, but others not so much. Or there is a modifier that when you shoot the enemies, they will occasionally spawn a mortar like shot that comes at you. I too love it when a skag decides to fart a shell out his ass at me. I hope this game will support modding like bl3 did because if it does I will just straight up remove all of these like I did with mayhem modifiers. Just cheap variety without any actual work. Just slap a modifier on it it and call it a day. It doesn't need to make sense, because who cares about immersion... A bunch of that feeling might also just come from the usual weakness of open world though. All in all, worth a buy for me if I had to buy it ![]()

Then, they have a story line in Borderlands where the midgets are emancipated and start their own umbrella org of bandit clans where there are equal rights between midgets and 6 foot tall people. That woulda been bad ass. Instead, Gearbox just pretends like they didn't smear and slander all men under 5 feet tall. Gearbox really dropped the ball by just renaming the midgets as "Tinks" and saying "nothing to see here". With all the woke virtue-signalling garbage in BL3 ... you know where their hearts are based on how they dealt with small enemies labelled "midgets".

https://x.com/Borderlands/status/1970609156936868102 it was supposed to come out in 10 days. they announce a delay this late? Gearbox must be in a state of chaos for them to figure it the must be delayed this late. Borderlands 4 has been a giant clusterfuck. The publisher, 2K, has not created a bragging press release about game sales totals. Analysts are using terms like "players" so they can include the people who bought a $1000 GPU that included a copy of Borderlands 4 for free. BL4 sold less than 2.5 million in 10 days. 2K is dead silent. I think a contributing factor to Randy's bizarro world melt down is that BL4 is a massive financial failure. Wonderlands, New Tales From the Borderlands, The Movie, and BL4... Pitchford is on a giant losing streak. i say Gearbox-Quebec is the first studio to see layoffs because of the Borderlands4 failure.
