No one thinks the Borderlands movie is good. There are no celebrations... no watch parties... nothing. The latest Borderlands franchise sales don't put any of the games at prices lower than they've been in the past. Hell, Borderlands 3 was totally free for a week on Epic a couple of years ago.

So there is no big sale and the movie is really bad.

And yet, all 3 games are surging on Steam. They've doubled their player counts the past 14 days. Figure that one out. The latest golden key codes posted by Randy Pitchford experienced record uptake by the player base. EpicNNG's really cool Borderlands3 MOD had 10,000 downloads this month. What is going on?

Possibly the buzzards circling the Destiny2 corpse are moving over to Warframe and Borderlands. That's a total guess.... I dunno WTF is going on.

my "doubled player counts" is incorrect. Borderlands 1 is up 1000%. Borderlands 3 is up 400% and Borderlands 2 is up 250%.

ah that could very well be the case!

When GameSpy died Gearbox spent the money to get Borderlands 1 on Steam. EA let all their C&C games die after GameSpy went down. Gearbox patched the Borderlands games on the Nintendo Switch recently. They especially improved Borderlands3 on the Switch. It runs ~45FPS. Its a miracle.

The movie failed so badly that it will be available on streaming August 30. I suggest waiting until August 30th.

Over all, in totality, at a macro level Randy Pitchford has done a great job nourishing and supporting the Borderlands franchise. Its been really cool. That said, the guy lies .. .a lot. And not just little white lies to paper over small issues. We're talking giant whoppers... big macs.

My advice is to make 100% certain Borderlands4 will run smoothly on your PC configuration before purchasing it. Borderlands 4 might be great. Best thing to do ... is wait.

With minor reading it seems to be a CPU limited game. Those are quite rare outside of strategy games.

Saw nothing about GPU ram but that is often an issue when it is better on console on similar hardware.

ya, problem is BL4 is bringing rise to the CPU instability issues that have been plaguing 13th and 14th gen intel CPUs for a year. the finger pointing has been hilarious.
so guys with "NASA Level PCs" are experiences crashing, the CPUs requesting too much voltage causing blue screens and a plethora of other problems.

Right now, i think the i9-9900 is the best CPU for the game. Anything higher and the extra cores make it possible for crashes to happen... anything lower and the CPU is too weak for the massive overhead a poorly made UE5 game requires. Its fucking hilarious.

Has there been any conclusion on what's going on with the performance? I can find topics on how high the sys reqs are and how studdery the game is, but I can't find anything on what's actually going on in detail. Is it just broken all over the place?

It appears a middle of the road, power friendly 6 year old GPU gets the job done @1080p. You need a good CPU and 32+ GB of memory. Chances are if you've been running with this GPU for 6 years you've been gaming @1080p.

As more ini file tweaks arise things will only get better. When you turn off volumetric fog you add 20 FPS to this set up. BL4 will prolly be a fun game to play next year. The stupid world boss bug will be patched out... many of the other problems will be patched out and the end game will probably be properly fleshed out as well. Just wait it out and see if Gearbox keeps working on the game.

The 2025 beta test for Borderlands4 seems to be going well. Great move by Gearbox to move up the release date by 2 weeks!

I'm actually amazed that GTX 1660 can run that game at all. According to some benchmarks, even RTX 5090 is pretty busy with 1440p native already.

The RTX 5090 is an amazing card that can do wonders in a proper set up.
However, I think you take the greatest video card on the market and pair it with a damaged 13th or 14th series intel CPU and it will perform badly. Possibly, Gearbox is afraid to publicly announce this? Often these Intel CPUs are damaged but then never get taxed enough for the problems to surface. Updating your BIOS does not reverse the damage caused by improper voltage running through your CPU from a year ago.

Hardware unboxed did a nice general analysis. They don't talk about the Intel CPU issues in this video.. just about over all bad performance.

Prolly a year from now, there will be lots of great documentation of tweaks and workarounds to make this game run well on a $1000 PC.

the size of the hole Pitchford is digging for himself makes me think the game is not meeting the financial expectations of Pitchford's overlords. Something else, and bigger than a game screwing up on a technical level, must be going wrong for the guy. The game itself is good.

huh? Dawg, every knowledgeable performance tester states your new game's performance is very poor. DF, HW Unboxed, etc etc. The console releases have memory leaks so players have to close out of the game and/or shutdown their consoles every 0.5 to 2.5 hours. There is no FOV slider on the console version because it lowers the frame rate too much. The PC version does not work with 13th and 14th series Intel CPUs. You attempting to wordsmith your way out of the realities i mentioned above only make things look worse.

something else, other than a game having poor optimization must be going wrong in PItchford's life for him to go this sideways and unhinged for this long. maybe the games' sales are less 1/2 of 2K's internal expectations? maybe Randy's wife is leaving him? i dunno its just ... bizarro world.

Once all these hardware//software issues get resolved I'll be happy to pick up this game for $20. I'm kinda excited to play it.
