I watched the WHOLE race for 19 straight hours without moving an inch. And I feel fucking good about that.

clan and i have beaten the 1st encounter and we think we have the 2nd encounter figured out too (we are blind on the mechanics). raid is pretty solid so far but we're getting gated pretty hard by the light level requirements and a full clear probably won't happen for a few weeks at least

this is a legit, dead serious, non-troll question. however, if you do not know much about Star Wars you do not have to answer it.

do you think that the 19 hour marathon viewing session you had would be more fun than watching every Star Wars movie back to back ?

This is 1000% more fun to watch than prequels or The Last Jedi.

I watched various streams, I know most of the encounters front to back. The only one I'm slightly fuzzy on is the fourth but I know most of that one too.

I will complete this raid. I don't care what it takes.

I’m just glad they are getting back into the “lore” with their raids and storytelling, reminding everyone that the Traveler might not benevolent at all. That its trip to our solar system was completely self serving.

This expansion has been incredible on storytelling. I really love how they got the best of both worlds. They have this easy to understand revenge story on the surface. And then they go full tin foil hat with the end game. I'm loving it.

I don't have skin in the game in regards to raid, but I have raided in WoW/FFXIV, do you guys like this structure of a super hard normal raid? This difficulty seems like it'd be more along the lines of a Prestige/Mythic/Savage difficulty.

I dislike the super hard raid because it locks me out of doing the raid with pub teams. Forcing full teams that use voice makes more interesting design, but locks out a significant subset of players. I would like to see them make toned down versions of the raid for release a month or so after the Raid is out. Let the hardcore players have that collective experience of tackling the raid and then release the baby Raid for the rest of the player base to stumble their way through and see the story and get weak ass exotics.

Yeah, thats my stance/concern too. The initial light level requirement is way out of my grasp, but i've read its pretty insanely difficult even with that high requirement of gear.

WoW and FFXIV even have some Mythic (equivalent of Prestige) only mechanics which are story canon. Like lets say normal mode Riven (I haven't seen any raid footage yet so excuse my ignorance), can push you out of the raid last second when you defeat her on normal, then maybe in Prestige you actually get to kill her. stuff like that.

The main thing with the raids is that they are also complex puzzles that need to be figured out and then executed on. Far more complex and tightly timed than any WoW raid. And they require players to communicate and fill specific, sometimes weird roles(the dunk master). Because of that, they can’t release the raids into public match making because no one would have a good time.

I respect that decision and think they should keep the full raid that hard. Few game designers would make it and I think it makes the raids something special that people really enjoy. I just wish they would design a less mechanically complex version of the raid for release down the line so I didn’t have to watch it on youtube. But they have a hard enough time getting these current raids out, so it is a minor complain.

I might go crazy and try to this one now that I got Forsaken on the cheap. I was always raid ready for the last one, just never found a team. But I say that every time.

Right, but your first point is moot because the difficulty isnt the puzzles but the dps/gear requirement and the one-two shot mechanics?

Like I said, I'm ignorant so I could be wrong, but that was told to me by one friend of mine who does do the content.

and even the major plot twist at the end was very nicely set up and handled... subtle and not so subtle all at the same time.

Usually video game stories are about as subtle as a WWE feud. However, Bungie gave us the "Doink The Clown" of WWE storylines.

i'm very pleasantly surprised by how good the story arc is in Forsaken.

The DPS requirements are legit, but nothing that can’t be solved by just grinding your face against the game until your light is high enough to dump enough DPS. Mechanically there are a lot of mechanics that will wipe a team unless everyone is working together, communicating and able to execute in a tight window. And those mechanics often need to be repeated several times before the raid creates a checkpoint.

Those mechanics are the puzzle as well. A puzzle in the middle of a gun fight. For example, the last raid would teleport haft the team into an alternative plane, where 3 of the players would see three of four different symbols. The other three players would need wait until each of the three teleported players called out their symbol and melee the symbol that they didn’t call out. They would need to do this three/four times and then they could DPS the boss. They also need to do all of this while sliding down a ramp in the alternative plane and fighting off hordes of dogs in the boss fight. Screw this up even once, the team wipes.

The first part doesn’t require a full team. It is just a level check. The second part requires a team that knows what they are doing, which makes match making not viable.

this is probably Captain Obvious talk for a few of the players in here who really know there stuff.. but..

if you get a wide variety of weapons all around a certain level, say 503, sooner or later a few of them will roll with just the right setup that you prefer. Then once you start moving up and your prime engram drops give you a 520 weapon you can use it to infuse the 503 weapon ... and it will only cost you Glimmer. You do have to keep a wide variety of weapons stocked up and have to get a bit lucky.

its a nice way to keep your weapons the way you like them and not have to spend precious Masterworks Cores infusing them to the highest level possible.

Right, but you already do a lot of grinding just to get into the raid. There's obviously a HUGE disparity between the difficulty of this raid and wrath of the machine. I have to wonder if thats appropriate for "Normal" difficulty.

Leviathan was really hard and a step up from previous raids from Destiny 1, mostly because of the mechanics I listed above.

This raid's mechanical complexity is definitely higher than other raids in Destiny 2 but nothing that can't be solved by a simple breakdown of roles and assignments that LFG groups can work with. Yes, it requires voice, but most raids do.

The main hurdle for LFG groups will be getting people at a high enough level and overcoming repeated failure, because the level recommendation is still probably too low. I think you need to be like 560+ to do this raid properly.

there's no way i would attempt a full clear below 560 PL and even then it'd be tough; i think 570 would be comfortable

our clan has done the 1st 2 encounters at ~530 average and ~540 average respectively and that's still pretty rough

Bungie needs to expand on the descriptions of upgrading Tiers on Weapons and Armor. What do you mean it adds to the Resistance/Stats, what %? Adds a Kill tracker? there already is one... Also why does the LL never improve, or does that finally happen at Lvl 10?
