Yeah I gotta agree - reading JJR's non-stop posting about how the Switch 2 is doomed is getting tiring.
JJR, I feel like half of your posts in this thread are basically those sensationalist YouTube video titles like "Is this THE END for NINTENDO!?" just because the fastest-selling video game console of all time doesn't always outsell every other console in every region on every day of the year. The Switch 2 is continuing to sell well, even when the PS5 also sells well. Nintendo and Sony are both thriving in the video game space. The Nintendo-Is-Screwed posts are getting old.
I much prefer reading your occasional posts on retro games, even if some of them (like wrestling games) aren't my favorite genres.
The free Switch 2 upgrade for Skyrim Anniversary Edition was just shadow-dropped - announced and released today:
Bethesda has today announced that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is getting a free Switch 2 upgrade. What's more, it's available today! Any Dragonborns playing on Switch 2 will get to experience the 2011 RPG at an enhanced resolution, with improved load times, performance optimisation, Mouse Mode support and more. Let's not forget that the Anniversary Edition packs in the game's three official expansions — Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire — Creations Club items, and those sweet Zelda crossover assets that we all enjoyed in the Switch 1 base game. ... Those with the Switch 1 version of the Anniversary Edition can nab the Switch 2 upgrade for free. Otherwise, you can upgrade from the base game to the Anniversary Edition for £17.99 (or your regional equivalent) or buy the whole thing for £52.99.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A's paid DLC comes out tomorrow (which includes more story content, more Pokémon, and more mega evolutions), but perhaps just as importantly, the base game has been consistently updating with more and more free content too, such as new side missions and additional mega evolutions. I think once I play through Octopath Traveler 0 - which will probably take quite a while - I might consider circling back to Z-A and taking a look at any new Pokémon content (before Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade comes out on January 22nd):
Wario World was just added to the GameCube library on the Nintendo Switch Online subscription!
Also, some information on RDR for Switch 2:
Red Dead Redemption is out now for the Switch 2, delivering an updated version of the acclaimed Wild West romp. We've already provided our own glowing 9/10 review, but now the lovely chaps at Digital Foundry have gone into even more depth as to what you can expect from a graphical and performance point of view.
Starting off with performance, Red Dead Redemption runs at a mostly stable 60fps, with minor dips present in Armadillo and Blackwater, particularly when playing the Undead Nightmare add-on. For the most part, however, you can expect lovely, smooth gameplay with very infrequent interruptions.
Looking more closely at the visuals, the game's textures and world design remain pretty much the same as those found on Switch 1. However, while docked, the Switch 2 version utilises DLSS to achieve a much more detailed 1440p resolution from a native 720p. There's much less flickering going on with the foliage, while objects off in the far distance have reduced anti-aliasing.
Meanwhile, 2D assets such as the in-game map are much more detailed thanks to the higher resolution, while shadows appear slightly more realistic than on the original Switch. There are still a few lingering issues, mind you. Some textures still flicker and pop in slightly, which Digital Foundry notes as "disappointing" given the age of the original game, while shadow quality in handheld mode is noticeably worse when compared to docked.
To be honest, the issues mentioned seem so minor, that it's unlikely to cause any issues for the average player. With a nice boost up to 60fps and much improved resolution thanks to DLSS, it seems Red Dead Redemption on the Switch 2 has proven to be a huge success.

you are not reading my posts then. I said the console would sell 80 million units. That makes it a middle of the road console release. it is hilarious the heat i receive in various threads for fence sitting posts. i offer a counter point to the "Switch2 is the greatest selling console of all time" narrative.
if you have logical counter points to my projections and the facts and logic that back them up then post em up.
Also, I offer a perspective as a Nintendo "swing voter". I buy about half of Nintendo's consoles. I like about half of their major franchises and buy about half of the various products offered within those franchises. You are not really a Nintendo "swing voter".
Please do not frame my posts as "Nintendo is doomed" because this is false.

I do (unfortunately) read your posts sometimes. Your thought processes aren't cogent, which is why you have things like the quoted above, as well as stories of you as a teenager stealing thousands of dollars unnoticed from a mega retailer. Either they care about every square mm of retail space or they super don't.
One day it's "Nintendo hit a brick wall", the next it's "Nintendo is brilliant and ourperforming Sony" or whatever some video told you.

When you go from selling 150M units down to 80M units you will be doing some thing better and some things worse.
Nintendo makes some brilliant individual moves. As a company of 9000 people that attempts some super creative innovative things Nintendo also has some awful failures. For example, we have the buck-the-graphics-trend ground breaking innovative stuff like the Nintendo Wii. A company that has the balls to do that will also try and fail with something like the Virtual Boy.
Nintendo is going to continue to do some genius level stuff. They will also continue to crank out Virtual Boy type failures.
It is fun seeing both the successes and the failures. This is the same great fun in watching the entire video game industry.

most of my theft occurred as an employee ripping off Fedex/Kinkos. their canadian branches were very badly mismanaged going from bringing in $2.4B in 2004 to closing down every location in the entire country. meh.

Walmart has serveillance tools in 2025 that a failing, ignored-by-the-USA head office Kinkos did not have in 2006. 19 years in technology is an eternity. Walmart absolutely kicks ass in Canada. Kinkos was a massive fail.
Tying this back to Nintendo. Nintendo must compete for shelf space with everything else Walmart sells. Walmart is very good at assessing which of its products are profitable and which ones are not. Once Walmart identifies a product not offering the profit levels they want they will pressure the supplier for better terms. So they'll pressure Nintendo, SOny, Microsoft etc.
Many major retailers around the world have proven over the last several weeks that they prefer a lower price for the Switch2.

Greatest-selling? I don't even know what that means. The Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console of all time, if you compare its first few months to any other console's first few months. That is not a "narrative". That is a literal fact, as already discussed with actual data. That is true and independent of anyone's opinions towards Nintendo or the Switch 2.
The Game Awards was last night (Nintendo had a few nominations and a few wins, such as Donkey Kong Bananza winning Best Family Game and Mario Kart World winning Best Sports/Racing Game) - https://thegameawards.com/
I'm less interested in the awards and more interested in some of the new games that were announced for Switch 2.

I've been playing a ton of Octopath Traveler 0. If you haven't played any OT games and you're interested in playing OT0, you can absolutely play it as your first OT experience (and if you like it, play OT1 afterwards, and then play OT2 last).
OT1 and OT2 are both S-tier Switch games for me, and OT0 will be joining them near the top of my tier list. The HD-2D graphics, beautiful combat, and amazing music have all returned for a third time, and they haven't lost their charm. The towns are lively with plenty of opportunities to use path actions, there is a ton of items and equipment for arsenal customization, and the turn-based battles are engaging and strategic. OT0 also has a bunch of clever references to OT1, since they take place in the same world of Orsterra.
With 8 characters rotating in and out at your convenience (instead of the traditional 4), the fights are definitely easier than in OT1 and OT2, but they also allow for more creative combinations and planning. The pacing isn't perfect - I've found myself naturally over-leveled for most of the game - but that's also because I like to explore new regions instead of just following the linear storylines.
The town-(re)building aspect isn't as big as I had thought it'd be, despite it being the main driver of the story. I actually wouldn't mind there being more of it. Its existence in the game is not a negative though; it's just a tiny positive instead of a potentially bigger positive.
The most common criticism for OT1 (and slightly in OT2 too) was that the 8 different characters had 8 independent storylines that really weren't overlapping (until the very, very, very end, which was a bit of a cop-out). For all intents and purposes, the 8 characters were strangers in those two games who just arbitrarily decided to help each other, but at least those 8 separate stories were legitimately interesting. OT0 suffers from a different problem with its writing: while the overall story is clear and connects all the playable characters, the three introductory subplots (power, wealth, and fame) are just plain bad. + Show Spoiler +
The "power" story is pretty basic, lazy, and cliche: "evil guy is evil because he is evil". The "wealth" story is decent, but it goes out of its way to be dark and inappropriate to the extreme: tons of drugs, prostitution, slavery, murdering slaves, and the actual NPC quote of "Did you pleasure my old man last night, you dirty whore!?” The "fame" story was my least favorite, because of how absolutely abysmal the villain was. Every time the evil playwright screamed "MARVELOUS!!!" was cringeworthy, and there were just too many instances of protagonists and antagonists all making dumb decisions. It almost came off as an unintentional parody.
After those three storylines end, there's an improved, streamlined narrative, but I still think the writing is the weakest aspect of OT0, just like in OT1 and OT2. These are otherwise remarkable games though.
On December 19 2025 00:02 sharkie wrote: Oh.. I was looking forward to the town building being a big thing in OT0.
Maybe things will change after the 20-hour mark (after all, the game is supposed to be 100+ hours long), but the amount of town-building so far definitely doesn't rise to the level of life-sim or cozy-gaming. I've spent like 2 hours doing town-building so far; a lot of it has been locked behind story progression. It definitely takes a backseat to the exploration, story, and turn-based combat of RPGs like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Octopaths 1 and 2. If/When there starts to be a huge focus on the town, I'll let you know!

You're mostly correct, actually! "Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent" is a mobile gacha game by Square Enix, based on OT1 and OT2, and then Square Enix took another look at their game, made a bunch of changes and improvements, and repackaged it (without any microtransactions) as "Octopath Traveler 0" for consoles

You literally just posted a video entitled "Nintendo is getting DESPERATE now.." and it's a complete joke. Both the video creator and the commenters are in some serious denial because they hate Nintendo. It's becoming very hard to take you seriously, when you post garbage like this. Do better.
