All they are doing is allow the big chains lower their price which is unusual because Nintendo is the one company which usually doesn't allow sales the payment terms between Nintendo and Walmart are not disclosed. We do not know how much Walmart has paid Nintendo so far. It is highly unlikely that it is a 100% consignment agreement. It is also highly unlikely Nintendo has been paid in full.

She absolutely loved playing through Hogwarts Legacy, and she also loves Stardew Valley. That's pretty much all she's played so far. These are wildly different than games I would personally play, so I'm having hard time figuring out what to recommend that would be similar to either of those. I can see that some people in this thread have played an extensive amount of games on the Switch. Does anyone have any suggestions?

These are wildly different than games I would personally play, so I'm having hard time figuring out what to recommend that would be similar to either of those. I can see that some people in this thread have played an extensive amount of games on the Switch. Does anyone have any suggestions? Sure! Here are my recommendations based on that information. (Definitely watch each game's trailer or even a gameplay video / video review before buying them, so you know if the games are what you truly want.) Stardew Valley is a pretty laid back, cozy, farm/life simulator game. Similar Switch 1 games that might be appealing are Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar (I can vouch for AC:NH and DDV, though I haven't played SoS:GB). There are two other games that I really enjoyed, which have some cozy/sim aspects but are more action-adventure type, perhaps blending the genres of Hogwarts Legacy and Stardew Valley. Those two games are Harvestella and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, both of which I loved playing. There are obviously plenty of great Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda titles too, though they may differ significantly from Hogwarts Legacy and Stardew Valley. Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Legends: Z-A can both be pretty chill adventure games though, if you're open to Pokemon.

So 6 months in we've seen 10% to 18% discounts for Switch 2 in France, UK, Canada, USA. This, after so many people speculating a price increase for the Switch2. LOL.

All these different types of companies offer various promotions each year to attract customers or encourage people to sign up for their credit cards. That is like saying, if Shoppers Drug Mart/Loblaws is giving you $100 back in points for every $700 you spend, then the Switch 2 is being sold at $600 CAD lol. Another thing, you or I have no clue how much Amazon/Walmart/Target, etc, is paying for these Switch 2s. They are buying them in bulk and likely have a distribution deal with Nintendo. Also, in e-commerce, if one company like Best Buy lowers a price, all these other retailers do the same. This is for almost any product because people can easily price check stuff with a quick Google search. What is your obsession with price discounts for the Switch 2?

Do you think not having played Octopath Traveller 1 & 2 will affect someone's enjoyment of Octopath Traveller 0? Would you recommend someone just getting Octopath Traveller 1 & 2 on sale and playing through them before starting Octopath Traveller 0? I've watched some of the Nintendo Life reviews that said Octopath 0 plays very differently from 1 & 2 because it is focusing on one story rather than many. I also read someone recommending that people play the games in order from 1/2/0 because the QOL changes in 2 and 0 would make it hard to go back and enjoy Octopath Traveller 1. Still, I'm not sure how much of that opinion is an exaggeration.

I haven't played OT0 yet, and I won't be able to for at least a week, but from the many, many reviews I've read/watched: OT0 should be extremely enjoyable on its own without needing to have played OT1 or OT2 first. That being said, there are several minor references / inside jokes / characters mentioned from OT1 during a standard playthrough of OT0, so you would likely "miss" those. The story of OT0 is a lot more connected and intuitive than OT1's story, OT0's combat can use 8 characters at a time instead of 4 at a time (OT1 and OT2 both use 4 at a time), and there is an additional town-building element to OT0 that isn't in OT1 or OT2. Those seem to be the major differences, but the games have a lot more in common: HD-2D art style, amazing music, fun combat, and similar game mechanics. I would also highly recommend both OT1 and OT2, and I would definitely play OT1 before OT2. The released order of 1 then 2 then 0 is probably intended - it's probably ideal - but I imagine that potential issues with 0 would be because of 0, not because you missed 1 and 2. "Would you recommend someone just getting Octopath Traveller 1 & 2 on sale and playing through them before starting Octopath Traveller 0?" If you have the time and money for all three games, then sure. 1 then 2 then 0.

That is a very good point concerning the increasing cost of memory production. I didn't even think about that.

Aesthetically, the game is a thing of beauty. 4K graphics and smooth 60+ FPS framerate, no visual issues whatsoever. Beautiful environments, monsters, and bosses; great cinematic scenes; wonderful ambience, background music, sounds, and effects. You really feel transported into this game's world, and the world is gorgeous. There are some gameplay/UI/QoL issues that I'm struggling with though. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of first-person shooters, and/or maybe it's because I've never played a Metroid Prime game before, so these may not be an issue for everyone. Very rarely do I say this, but I actually find some of the controls to be confusing, and it's because of all the additional psychic abilities/modes that have overlapping button combinations with Samus's regular abilities/modes/scans. I lose track of how many different uses some of the buttons have - when to tap ZL or hold ZL, when to tap X or combine buttons together. It's more complicated than I'm used to, and I never really feel completely comfortable with the controls unless I'm just engaging in basic combat. The puzzles are pretty simple so far, which is fine, but they feel very repetitive after a while. Scanning everything all the time also feels repetitive. The bosses are creative, but the fights are padded so that they take longer than necessary. Because of these experiences with puzzles, scans, and boss fights, the pacing feels a little inconsistent and the flow of the game feels disrupted at times. Also, not being able to frequently save/autosave is just bizarre to me. I'll play for at least a few more hours - the game isn't a very long one - but this game so far reaffirms my beliefs that aesthetics are not the end-all and be-all of a game's value, and that first-person shooters are not my cup of tea.

I guess Nintendo's price drops make more sense given this info. https://www.thegamebusiness.com/p/ps5-ea-sports-fc-26-and-hogwarts https://mynintendonews.com/2025/12/06/us-black-friday-2025-console-market-share-ps5-47-switch-2-24-nex-playground-14/ With such large PS5 discounts, this makes a lot of sense: "The PS5 Slim 1TB price was 21% lower compared with two weeks previously. The PS5 Slim 825gb Digital price was 34% lower than two weeks prior. And the PS5 Pro was down to £586, which is an all-time low, and it had its best week outside of its launch week. ... Switch 2’s average selling price was £405 during Black Friday, which was only a slight 3% drop on two weeks ago."

Walmart, Best Buy, Target etc still have the Mario bundle for $450 USD. This ain't no flash sale. December holiday buyers are casuals. Since 1987, casuals are accustomed to spending $200-$330 in 2025 money for a Nintendo Console. The NES in 1987 was $80USD. Casuals are a brick wall ... and Nintendo has hit that wall. | Console | Year(s) in question | Typical real-world price (then) | Adjusted to 2025 USD | Notes | |------------|---------------------|---------------------------------|------------------------|--------------------------------------------| | NES | 1987–1990 | $79–$99 | $210–$260 | Famous $99 bundle by 1988–1990 | | SNES | 1992–1996 | $129–$149 | $290–$335 | Dropped to $149 late-1992, then often $129 | | N64 | 1998–2001 | $99–$129 | $190–$250 | Official cut to $129 in 1998, $99 by 1999 | | GameCube | 2003–2006 | $99 | $170–$185 | Stayed at $99 for most of its life | | Wii | 2009–2012 | $149–$199 | $230–$310 | $199 in 2009 → $149–$169 by 2011–2012 | | Wii U | 2014–2016 | $249–$299 (Deluxe) | $330–$400 | Remained high due to poor sales | | Switch | 2019–2024 | $259–$299 | $300–$350 | $299 normal, $259–$279 common on sale | Now, during launch years Nintendo kept the prices of the NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U and Switch HIGH. MOre around $400 USD in 2025 money. The Switch2 has not garnered the excitement level of the casual holiday buyer that previous NIntendo consoles did. This is kinda the point I've been making since the Switch2 came out. My wife had a big holiday painting event with 7 of her closest female relatives this weekend. 6 of the 7 are Animal Crossing casuals and play games like Don't Starve and that Book store game. They all have zero interest in the Switch2. For full context, my wife is having rotator cuff surgery next week so even if she were interested.. she could not play. Once she heals up I don't see her anxious to get a Switch2. Any how, this is kinda the point I've been making since the Switch2 came out. The casuals are not excited by the Switch2 and they ain't buying the Switch2 the way they did previous Nintendo consoles. Its clear Nintendo is fighting for shelf space. These mega retailers do not donate space for charity. Every square millimeter of every location must produce revenue.
