Lets say you put the entire VC catalog at once, people will buy the games they want to play (aka the popular ones, mario, zelda, ff, etc...) and forget about either the other games or VC itself But if you do it in waves of lets say, 5 games, you are more open to buy games you would not have bought otherwise because you maybe thought "hmmm i have this $3 lying around, maybe ill buy this and give it a try". Also you create hype for the next games. The first option will probably give nintendo a lot of money in the short term, but in the long term the second option seems a much better idea, or even worse, the first option might not even give you that much money because most people will probably buy a Switch to play new games, not to use the VC.

Please tell me this is wrong so I can stop laughing at their marketing team who thought this is clever idea to boost the purchase of overpriced peripherals. And apparently you can't use older generation controllers either, this just too good to be true.

So if you don't buy pro controller at one point your joy-cons run out of battery and you need to put them in the tablet. You then undock the tablet which is a minor annoyance if you're playing home only to realize the tablet doesn't charge the joy-cons either. You check what kind of fuckery is this to get the answer to plug tablet into usb-c to charge joy-cons, which of course isn't included in package either, leaving you unable to play while you wait for your joy-cons to recharge. 25% in Sweden and 20% in Germany. So a difference of 5%, which hardly accounts for the nearly 20% price difference. An iPhone 7 for example is more or less exactly the same price in the two countries. Seems like the swedish distributor of Nintendo products (Bergsala) struck a particularly rough deal for this one.

Plus, I think Nintendo is thinking DS -> 3DS transition, but with a twist. You don't have to upgrade your Tablet-part. I mentioned this back up thread, but 720p/60hz is saturation for the human eye at that level. Sure, 120hz or higher is nice but not needed. A "better" screen is nice, but there's no need to really drive higher than that for the handheld section. (Plus, all of the improvements in Monitor tech have been in dealing with motion blur, color space and all of the little technical aspects.) Thus, in 3 years, or about the time that 4K TVs will have solid market penetration, Nintendo can roll out Switch 2 with an improved handheld & SDC. But, wait, your Switch 1 tablet still works! And all of your games can now be upscaled to 4K/60hz. Plus you can plug it into the SDC game station. Or you can plug your Switch 2 into the Switch 1 base station. Allowing them to phase out the Switch 1 without cannibalizing it. That Nintendo would think to replicate the DS/3DS approach makes a lot of sense. They're the best handheld maker in the world, and they can make their home console into a handheld.

I already have a system with a way better library thats portable and superior internet play for free, why on earth would I buy this? The only way this succeeds is if the nintendo fanbase is more desperate then I thought for something that isnt the wii U or if they announce that they are cutting off support for the 3DS which would be a massive shitshow.

For me, the Switch is primarily a home console. And that's a huge upgrade over the Wii U since it'll have 1080p@60hz graphics when docked, compared to the 3DS, whose screens are 240p. Plus that's incredibly awkward to dock at home, since you still have to look at the touch screen, meaning you're switching your eyes between the TV and the handheld. (N.B. I skipped the Wii U, but yeah I have to admit if you already own one the Switch doesn't seem so great for 2017, since the best games look to be Zelda and MK8.) I almost never play Nintendo games online so I don't care about paid online gameplay. Seems like the only game I'd even want to do that with is Splatoon.

thats like saying "why would i even buy another console since the SNES and the GBA have the best library of games ever", i mean, why did you bought a 3DS, since the DS has the better library overall (IMO, 3DS is still top tier, but the DS catered to every genre pretty well) and how is this not a big upgrade lol, in terms of power, screen resolution, controls, etc... it runs circles around the 3ds

Apart from wat the others have said, there IS an USB C adapter included, you just disconnect it from the dock. Oh and the joycona have a 20 hour battery each so I don't think you'll be running out of battery frequently. To Vayneauthority..Really? Do you think playing Zelda on the Go, or Mario kart 8 is not a huge improvement? Do you think 720p resolution is not a huge Improvement? And then being able to play it on your TV at 1080p?

Price range over here is looking like 370-420€ atm. It really looks like to be nice piece of hardware for what it's but the price, and mainly the cost of other things, makes me ponder on buying at launch.

A few months ago a WSJ(I think) tech reporter tweeted that there were rumors that Nintendo was going to ditch the next gen console release model every few years for more frequent hardware upgrades like Sony and Microsoft are doing. Remember we have to see the rumored Sony Neo, if Nintendo is already investing in a higher end model this could explain that.

I think the Zelda series is garbage so that is also a disappointing launch title for me. Odyssey looked cool and apparently there's a SMT game coming later but meh. I'm just saying that nintendo hasn't sold me on a console since the gamecube and this one didnt change anything, their true portable department continues to completely outclass their console team. They would have to bring over a huge title like pokemon or something to the switch for me to consider it

I skipped the Wii U because it had a terrible game line-up. In the time period between when the Wii came out and now, I got married and had kids. Sony and Microsoft (aside from being terrible companies that I would never willingly give a penny to) have completely capitulated on local multiplayer and kid's games, and I don't want to buy a separate 3DS for everybody in my family, so I'm super excited for the Switch because it'll be the first time in a very long time that we'll play video games together.
