Regardless, there's nothing wrong with the "wait for price cut and more games" approach to the Switch. In fact, I'd argue that's a reasonable approach toward any game system these days.

Well, I didn't want to spend money on the 3DS at first either because I have a DS. Around 18 months after release, I eventually bought one. If the Switch is going to succeed the 3DS, they will eventually stop making games for the 3DS and we're going to have to buy a Switch for our portable gaming needs. I'm looking at the same thing here, buying it probably 12-18 months after release date.
I looked at a past expense report and I paid around $210 after taxes for the 3DS. If I can buy 2 games I really want with the Switch, that would be the time to purchase.
|
There's been some waffly comments from Nintendo suggesting the Switch and 3DS are going to co-exist. Which is probably a good thing IMO. I don't see myself carrying the Switch around everywhere considering its size and battery life. Maybe I'll bring it to bed but probably won't be leaving the house much.
|
Again, they made similar comments around the release of the original DS. I'd expect their plan with regard to the 3DS is going to depend heavily on how successful the Switch is.
|
if I recall I simply got a 3DS because they were doing a thing where you trade in your DS for one and get a large credit when you buy it.
Can we trade in our wii u for a price cut on the switch? lol (not that I have one)
|
No, the 3DS got a straight-up price cut from $250 to ~$170 fairly early on. It was the origin of the Ambassador Program to give early adopters something to feel like they didn't completely get ripped off for paying $80 more for a console that didn't even have any good games out yet.

my 3ds is ambassador program'd, I've had it since the start. I know that I traded in my DS though when I bought it which cut it by a bit

If your 3DS has the Ambassador Program stuff on it, then it means you got it before the price cut I'm referring to.
|
well yea I know that. I just don't get what the "no" refernces in your other post 0o. I know for a fact I traded in my DS because it is gone haha

Just like to confirm. I watched over some youtube reviews of what they thought of the switch's review and the treehouse event with information from Nintendo personnel.
I am understanding that 1-2 Switch is only 7 minigames but will cost 40 dollars to buy? If this is the case, Nintendo is dreaming. Those 7 will not be enough to be worth 40 dollars because I have Nintendo Land, Wii Party U and even Rabbids Land for my wii u, those are all party games. Nintendo land was bundled when I bought my system, I bought Wii Party U in disc form for I think 30/40 dollars and rabbids land around 25 to 30 dollars as an eshop purchase if memory serves me correct.
All those games have more than just 7 minigames and other than nintendo land, have a way of incorporating a board game type setup where multiple minigames are played through and even unlocked as you move forward.
40 dollars is a steep price. The tech may be new so hard to develop for but Nintendo needs to develop the api or programming so that as they move forward they can use more of it and refine it in future games. maybe even license it to 3rd party to use in their titles. They should not expect the payment of development cost for 1-2 switch to come immediately but look long term.
I would propose that since the switch is non bundled with the game, since it is basically a tech demo game. IF they still want to sell it with cartridge at a higher price, maybe 20 dollars like snipperclips as the full price. But if you bought and activated your switch. You have a chance to buy 1-2 switch game as an eshop purchase at 50% off or 10 dollars. That would be enticing at least to me. Not a 40dollar additional purchase of 7 minigames (if true)
So please correct me if I am wrong.

Ehh, I'll just wait for at least 2 years to see if it's worth the switch. I can't say I really miss Nintendo games, and the only reason I bought DS/3DS is because of Atlus.

So please correct me if I am wrong. According to an interview I watched, people were able to play 6 different minigames, but I haven't heard any definitive statement on how many are in the final product. Do you have a link?

Sorry, I was just browsing through random youtube reviews on the tv that I am not subscribed to who went to the event and I recall some of them mention 40 dollars and just 7 minigames for 1-2 switch. I have not read any article sorry.

Sorry I was wrong.
Per Amazon and best buy, it cost 49.99 usd basically 50 dollars, not 40. https://www.amazon.com/1-2-Switch/dp/B01MZ8ZGI6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484649826&sr=8-1&keywords=045496590444 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/1-2-switch-nintendo-switch/5721501.p?skuId=5721501
At the official nintendo site, the only minigames listed at present are http://1-2-switch.nintendo.com/
Quickdraw Samurai Table Tennis Milk Copy Dance "Ball shaking" guessing game (not listed) They always shows that guy trying to finish the burger in the trailers while holding the joycon (not listed nor has anyone played it) And maybe an air guitar minigame (based on one photo in the official site)
clicking in many more just loops it so I do honesly believe there isn't much more in the way of additional games if thats all they can say for their launch title techdemo. Or at least the other games are not really stand outs or just too basic to even show off and simply pad to give more games just because. 1-2 switch's launch is also less than 2 months away, so they most likely are in the refining stages of the game. not still creating new ideas or developing still the other minigames as they wont be able to package the game properly come march.
Unless they plan to release 1-2 switch and make it ala Splatoon's concept where they will release free DLC of instead of new maps the new minigames that expands onto 1-2 switch's game lineup overtime to make it a stronger title or techdemo
|
If you click the "and many more" you go to a screen with 16 images, implying there are at least 16 more mini-games?
That would make over 20 games. Not too shabby. Makes sense that they don't make trailers for all games..
I bought Wii and Wii U at launch because both had titles that I immediately wanted to play. GBA/DS/2DS were bought months/years after release because a specific game came out after launch.
For Switch I will buy Zelda on the Wii U (love that gamepad), and wait for an exclusive Switch game I want before buying the actual console.
|
Ah, I found what mentioned. Funny that didn't load for me on my tablet when I was checking out the site and immediately loops back to the start. Anyway Known: (6) Quickdraw Samurai Table Tennis Milk Copy Dance "Ball shaking" guessing game (not listed)
Based on Photo on site: (17) "Baby" minigame (calm the baby maybe so that it doesn't cry and wake up baseball minigame air guitar minigame (most likely needs to use 2 pcs of the joycon so each player take turns rather than simulatenously cork removal game? clown balance game another sword game sorcerer game? flag signs game (match the hands of the one on screen maybe but they said games dont need to look at the screen so who knows) punching bag game shoveling the beach? yoga game treasure/pirate game? analog phone call game dice game (guess the number of dice inside the container) shaving game catwalk/runway game? + burger eating game not included in the 16 photos
So at least showing there would be 23 games. More than 7. True. But 50 dollars for the approx 23 techdemo minigame is something I find hard to stomach. Say it was flat 25 minigames, so its 2 dollars for each minigame. Are they then going to charge DLC minigame at 2 dollars a pop if there was an expansion option given the 50 dollar mindset?
It really should be lower, it demonstrates what the switch can do from concept to reality in short game burst. 30 dollars, sure, I'm game at 30.
But I want an option that if I activated the switch, nintendo considered to give me 1 month the option to purchase from the e shop a discounted 1-2 switch. IF I buy after, then its back to full price.
Just my two cents.
|
Yeah I get that. When the Wii launched, Wii Sports came included with the console right?
Perhaps they should've picked the 5-6 best games and gave it for free with the Switch rather than add 20+ games and sell it separately.
|
I agree, the lack of bundled game is strange from Nintendo.
|
When they announced 1-2-Switch I though it was going to be a pack-in.
|
Am I misunderstanding this -- the Joy-Con controller is $80 to pre-order right now, and as I understand it, the middle-part that you attach to it to make an old-school controller is sold separately. That has to be a mistake right?
