That actually looks really good to me o.O if it is some sort of indication of what the 2019 game may offer, I'm afraid that I'll buy a Switch xD

I've been holding back on going back to my childhood Nintendo days for fear of that thought being only NES nostalgia, but I miss a good Mario (plus others) game.

Story structure sounds disappointing but the reviews I've seen are unanimously praising the combat. It seems very rare for reviewers to praise any type of turn-based or hybrid turn-based combat nowadays. The more traditional rpgs (both western and Japanese) like Pillars of Eternity seem routinely praised for their story and criticized for their combat.

I'm getting the vibe that the game only features 8 mostly independant stories (that are probably quite RPG trope-ish). Doesn't sound too good if it's true.

From my experience in the Demo, this is very true. I would expect there to be some larger story later on in the game, but as of now there is no hints of it.

I'm also not sure why the combat is getting praise. I feel like this is the Bravely Default system Mark 2. So far I feel like the changes are for the better* but I feel like there is a similar grind.

The Travel Path stuff felt ok, not great. It basically is just extra motivation to talk/interact with every NPC.

Honestly not even sure I like the art style as much as I thought I would. I get the sense they were going for a storybook style, and it kinda works, but things just feel a little more washed out than I would like. There is also an odd Paper Mario vibe I get from some of the transitions and such.

Idk, I pre-ordered the game kus of early Hype so I'm going to try a different start once the full game arrives and go from there. Hopefully I just chose a bad starting point for myself.

I can't speak about the new Job system as there wasn't a way to get a real feel for it in the demo. The big change from my PoV is the new BP system flows better in terms of keeping the action moving. I think part of the flaw with the Bravely Default system was that you had to give up your actions to build your BP, here you build BP every turn unless you had spent BP the last turn.

The new (at least I don't recall there being one before) Vulnerability/Break system also feels nice and fits with the BP mechanic well. This is where enemies have a sort of "fortitude" but if you hit them with an attack they are vulnerable too they loose fortitude and once it hits 0 they are stunned for a turn and take extra dmg.

From my experience, and I started with the Apothecary character fyi, the battles felt a bit slow. Like they tuned things so that you needed to use the BP system well otherwise every mob felt like a sponge. Things picked up a little when I got my 2nd party member, but unfortunately that was near the end of my demo time.
I can take that responsibility.

The thing is, from the announcement and the comments from people that followed it more closely, I got the impression that no random trainer battles would be there, for exemple, but from the vídeo, it seems like a regular gen1 remake on the switch. Something that is way better than the PKGO hybrid that I was lead to believe it would be.

Pretty much the only big thing they detracted from gen 1 was wild battles in favor of the Go system. Everything else is just people being goalposty about people liking Go.

Yeah like Gahlo says, the only difference is wild battles work different. Instead of being random encounters, pokemon are randomly generated in the terrain, and you can see it and decide if to fight them or not (though in some areas it Will be hard to avoid them), but then you don't actually fight them, just capture them the way you do pokemon GO style..


Howerever, there are still trainer battles, there are still GYM battles, and that video shows there willl be battles against legendary pokemon too. Also there will be online battles. So it's a full Pokémon game, with one change.

Oh actually the video above doesn't show legendary pokemon battles, this japanese ad is the one that does.

My first thought when they released the first trailer was "Wow, this looks more fun than buying 140 Max Repels and skipping every battle, why are people complaining?"

The actual capture mechanic might be frustrating (I wouldn't know, I don't play Pokemon Go) but it can't be any worse than mashing A and chucking 40 Dusk Balls. The only thing I need to worry about is not chucking the Pokeball into the TV. But it'll be fun roleplaying as Ash and looking stupid whenever I miss.

I also like the candy mechanic (I believe it's also adopted from PoGo?). It actually incentivizes catching lots of Pokemon. In the core games, the only times you'd actually go out of your way to catch something was if you were shiny hunting, getting a specific HA or maybe legend hunting. In the Global Missions, we always get killed on the "Catch X number of Pokemon" and we always CRUSH the "Hatch eggs" or "Get BT points" missions because catching pokemon is such a chore and waste of time

I'm hoping they redesign the game to cut down on all the times people have to mash A. There is just so much superfluous flavor text for every minor action. I remember counting how many text boxes I need to go through in festival plaza just to check if somebody has the shop I want. IIRC, it was around 12-15 text boxes for every person.

BotW got rave reviews but even there, it was such a pain to sell items.

And they actually said that the interesting wild pokemon battles are still there (legendary birds + Mewtwo).
They're really the only wild pokémon battle I care about. And it would have been completely underwhelming to just shake your console at them...

I enjoy the capture mechanic. It adds a level of skill by your throw being an additive modifier in your capture rate. I'm curious whether or not curveballs are going to be a thing in this too. One thing I know for sure, I'm gonna be using that dumb wrist strap on the pokeball+. Even at the discount I got on it, shit's too expensive to risk throwing.

The only way the candy mechanic is like Go is that Go had a candy mechanic too. Pretty different from Go's mechanic outside of the word "candy".

As for Arcanine, doesn't matter cause I'm getting Eevee and Growlithe is Pikachu exclusive.

In the first video in this page Eevee is shown riding the trainer on top of Arcanine, so there will be ways to get it, probably trading and through Pokemon GO.


However that makes me question which version to buy
I wanted to buy we've because Eevee is my second most favorite Pokemon....but then Arcanine is my favorite....and I don't have one in Pokemon go. I have a Growlithe though so maybe I can use that.

Can you trade online with strangers? Well I guess it wouldn't be that hard to find someone on the internet and befriend him for the trade
