Yeah if they break out after the first ball, they have a 99% flee rate.
Which is bad news for me cause I'm 29 trainer level and most Abras I meet are getting yellow-orange circles -_-
They're really rare too. It's the T2 I have the least candy for, bar Charizard.

This radar is pretty decent but it may have a 5mins lag. You may want to compare it to other radars if any that you are using. Spawned pokemons last around 15mins typically unless its from a nest then its 59mins.
Guess what a Dragonite spawned at my work area, went with a colleague to catch it, he ends up with a 1.9k cp dragonite while I get a 47 cp one. A 47 fucking cp Dragonite. I'm pretty sure Niantic hates me.

so i finally got enough magikrap candy to evolve into a gyarados, prayed to rngesus for a good moveset and got bite and hydro pump. not bad..i've heard of the twister horror stories

I had a dragonite spawn in my house the other day. Some garbage CP with steel wing but still.
My house is pretty awesome tbh, I get three spawns an hour all around the same time.
I have yet to bother with gyarados. Seems like there's not much point when vaporeon beats it in almost every way for far less effort. I'm just banking on eventually running into one for the dex.

does he not get aqua tail? i hear it's better than hydro pump because it gives u more flexibility in when to use the special
also im pretty sure he gets dragon breath as a quick move

It goes both ways, honestly it's probably what you're most comfortable with so long as the DPS is closish.
2 bar specials are nice for a few reasons. The big problem around 1 bar specials relates entirely around wasting DPS by sitting at full energy which 2 Bar specials help avoid. So with Hydro Pump you may be sitting at full energy fast attacking because you want to wait to dodge a special before using yours or because the enemy pokemon is low HP and you don't want to massively overkill them with your special.
At the same time sometimes you can just spike a pokemon really well with a 1 bar special or you 100% need to dodge their 1 bar special so you end up sitting at 100% energy anyways waiting for it to come out and never get the chance to dump all your energy anyways.
I think I like 2 bar specials for enemy gyms and 1 bar specials for training gyms (where you often only need to get the one kill).
For Gyarados there's an argument to be made for Dragon Pulse over Hydro Pump, though it's less true now that Dragon Breath isn't available for Gyarados. Dragon Breath + Dragon Pulse was a good move set for facing Dragonites (especially Dragonites with Steel Wing), but Hydro Pump is the more generally useful move.
It's weird that they changed the move set but didn't update existing pokemon. I feel like my Gyarados is a collector's item now :D.

Heh, went out to catch an Abra just now. It immeadiately escaped. Instead a 2k Lapras spawned directly in front of my face lol. Had to throw like 73 Hyperballs at it but I got it in the end. My house rocks!

you think your luck is bad? then mine is damn awful...
long time lurker, but I really feel like venting right now... I don't like complaining but I'm very very close to quitting at this point
+ Show Spoiler + So where do I begin, I'm level 22,5 by now, I've caught 65 seen 65 (so yeah, I definitely got it worse) tracker never showed me anything I haven't caught by now Have had plenty of <200 CP pokemon flee on me after throwing great throw great ball + berry on them (I had tons of berry's and 0 pokéball) which includes pidgey's, poliwags, slowpokes, you name it
I've hatched 78 eggs so far in 223.11 km, have 9x 2 km eggs in my bag I've only gotten 1x 10 km egg in the first 9 eggs, which hatched a ~75% IV dratini I've visited 1884 pokestops and I have 0 pokéball left (no, I barely miss other than when they deflect while the ball is flying, and I throw great throws more than 50% of the time), 5 great balls and 9 ultra balls (50 berries) I've tossed out more than a 1000 revives/potions at this point
There's only 1 gym within 3 km at least (I'm in a wheelchair so no, I'm not going to travel further)
I've used all my incense and lures and the best pokémon I've seen spawn from it was a squirtle, other than that nothing but rattata/pidgey/weedle/goldeen/magikarp/poliwag/zubat/psyduck/caterpie/spearow and 2nd tier evolves plus drowzee, venonat (might've missed a couple but not many)
I really really really want decent pokémon to fight at my closest gym from my 2 km eggs I've only gotten 1 bulbasaur, 1 squirtle, 0 charmander, 0 pikachu literally the only fire pokemon I have is my beginner 12 cp charmander the only grass pokemon I have is a bulbasaur, an oddish, and a bellsprout I (fortunately) live near water, so at least water pokemon spawn, including a lot of magikarp, poliwag, slowpoke, goldeen, psyduck, staryu
I've caught a grand total of 3 eevee's... which I read everywhere are supposed to be very common
(I'm a big min-maxer in any game I play btw)
So at least maybe I'd get a decent gyarados or something right? Wrong
I've evolved a gyarados 6 times by now (all 90%+ IV), 4 twisters and 2 bite + dragon pulse Today I evolved my 100% IV Magikarp, my first and only 100% IV pokémon, into a bite + twister I honestly felt like throwing my phone across my room...
I haven't caught a single psyduck with over 40% IV, not a single poliwag either, nor a slowpoke over 50% The 2 slowpokes from eggs (71% and 77%) got water gun + water pulse/ice beam
The only 2 decent pokémon (with the right movesets) are two poliwraths (80% and 83%) evolved after hatching
A few days ago, after a long long time chasing dratini candy, I finally evolved a dragonite from a 93% dratini, only to have steel wing and dragon claw... which hurt my min max mentality right in the gut I don't even have enough candy to power up him (only 800 CP) and I don't know if I even should...
If anyone bothered to read my rant, why should I even bother to keep playing right now? Just pray my 7th gyarados will finally have hydro pump?! I just want a couple more good pokémons for taking my gym (or other gyms if I ever happen to go to a city) other than my 2 poliwraths... what would my best option be to get another decent gym attacking pokémon?

here i am siting with two gyaradaos, the highest iv of which having twister, and reading about a guy complaining about getting 6 gyarados at five levels below me. life is hard.
and KBB can just get the fuck out right now with his lapras spawning in his house bullshit. ;-)

I genuinely think you should just uninstall and move on to something else.
While I can completely appreciate people taking their games seriously but Pokemon Go is just about the worst game to do so especially with all the limitations you got going for you.
At this point for me personally this "game" is pretty much a turn the app on when I go running to hatch a Egg. Maybe contest a gym or two on the way back if they aren't too heavily protected.

Am I reading this right that I should feel lucky about being able to evolve 6 gyarados' all with bad moves, just cause I'm 5 levels below you? Because that's pretty much where I put all my hope in for getting good pokémon to take gyms... well over 600 magikarps caught and not a good pokémon to speak of
I'm sure instead of those 600 magikarps you've actually caught something useful at some point whereas I have not

Just keep going. My account was pretty shitty like 4 days ago and now I actually feel pretty good about it. Granted, I don't really know much about movesets and IV and whatnot, but apparently it is possible to find good shit when you get lucky
