Thanks, wasn't sure if there was one people recommended.

The new tracking system seem to be working A-OK for me. Saw a Rhydon at my house leaving for work - :O - left going one direction and it quickly dropped off. Turned around and went the other direction and there it was. Don't even have a Ryhorn yet lol. I also finally found a wild pokemon over 1000 CP, 1018 Golbat.

Use https://pokeassistant.com/ as a first pass. The whole arc estimation thing is annoying when most of the pokemon you're going to trash because they're 50% max anyways. Then take pokes who are potentially good and use silphroad to get a closer idea of their values.

oh, i like that. i have always just used the lowest possible arc (based on power up cost) to estimate the highest potential IV for my mon rather than trying to estimate with perfection, but i like this better for a first run.

Ah great, that's what I needed to know! Silph road is a little tedious.

For more advice:

I name my pokemon based on their IV and level. The important part of it though is you can use the level to compare arcs between your own pokemon which I find easier & faster than using Silph Road (put your finger on the arc, go to the other pokemon of potentially the same level, compare). I tend to also keep around a lot of pokes of various levels just because I like having a collection so that helps having ones to compare to.

Was at Disneyland with relatives. Crazy amount of pokestops. There's only a limited amount of gyms and they are difficult to hold. In fact, it's even difficult to put a pokemon on an empty gym after clearing it. Very good selection of pokemon, though.

i have a tier 8 gym next to my office. lowest level mon is a lapras at 1717. i can kill it with my higher level mons, but it will take forever to raise the prestige so that i can put in a mon. i dont have any lower level mons to kill it since electric sucks and i dont have any good fighting/rock. sigh. i want in on that action, nobody has taken it down in a few days.

if it was a mystic or instinct gym, i would be happy. all that sweet experience destroying it.

Just duo'd a level 10 gym with a coworker. Left the double disrespect magikarp's in there since we had both just collected bounty coins.

Last night, one of my wife's friends saw my 2700CP Dragonite at the supermarket Gym. She recognized my trainer name and sent a screenshot to my wife with the caption "Is this your husband? I'm both impressed and annoyed".

Haha we use the same trick to quickly check if a pokemon is worth something. Sometimes tho you think a pokemon is worth keeping but it's just average and the other one is just that bad.

Anyways, even after having 4G/LTE not limited in debit, my GPS / in-game character still get stuck a lot on the map for no reason. Google maps works so it's supposedly not an hardware issue. I have seen some people on the internet with the exact same issues, but no solution found yet :/. I have tried a GPS software, didn't help, I'll try other ones.
It's making me mad, I needed like 6 minutes to capture a Venomoth in a park because I wasn't at the right location ingame, plus having many lures into one spot made the app crash on top of it, my phone being on Android with only 1GB.

Thankfully I caught a Snorlax (altho low cp) and hatched a 41 CP Lapras, makes up a bit for bad playing conditions.

You want Lucky Egg + enough evolutions to take up 30 minutes of time. So at a minimum you should have enough evolutions for that (50-70).

Beyond that my recommendation:

Use your first Lucky Egg + Evolution bomb when you'll get enough XP to get access to great balls (level 12).

Do it again when it will get you enough XP to get you ultra balls (level 20).

You can wait a little longer actually, but the worst levels to be are those closest to when you unlock the next tier of balls. Right before you get great balls you'll start having trouble catching some things, and right before you get ultra balls the same will apply, though in that case you mostly want 20 for the level 20 egg hatches.

It also depends on how you play/where you play. The more often you encounter rare pokemon the less often you want to sit on a lower level farming Pidgey candy. If you are really almost exclusively getting Pidgeys then bank as much as you can at low level when they're easier to catch and boost later on.

i did my first lucky egg run and pushed up to lvl 14.8 (so almost 15). i'm more wondering when it's worth to start powering up any pokemon with good IV's, i've been hoarding candies + stardust so far.

if you have a high enough IV pokemon with good move set, go for it. CP on wild pokemon stops increasing at level 30 i hear.

i have two pokemon that are >90% IV so i have been evolving them since around low 20s (i am 25 now). i use them to attack gyms. i feel that missing out on that aspect of the game (taking over gyms) significantly outweighs any "wasted" dust.

Under 20+ I'd only pump up a single pokemon as a point man, maybe a second as backup or for multiple gyms. That's because at 20+ you'll hatch a lot of good IV pokemon that are up to level 20 and useful for evolutions.

The ideal is you should only pump/evolve pokemon when they'll immediately give you the opportunity to take gyms. Otherwise you'd just sit around waiting for a high level high IV pokemon or a 100% IV pokemon.

Realistically you won't do that because Pokedex and you want to collect them and what not.

You can Evaluate how easy the type is to catch. If you have a reliable supply of say Shellders and a good one (like 70-80+) there's no reason to hold out for a very high IV (90+) one because you can just farm up the candy to evolve another one later on if you want.

I disagree on the easy catch ones. There's a good reason to hold out for a good IVs one if its common. Leveling pokemon is expensive in dust and that is by far the most valuable resource in this game.

I agree with that on powering them up, but if you're say level 23 and catch a level 23 Shellder and have 50+ candy there's no reason to not evolve one which gives you something in the 1k-1.3k CP range to fight/train with. Evolution doesn't cost dust.

Likewise you may do it during a Lucky Egg to get the bonus 500 new pokemon xp doubled.

I recommend an app called IV Checker for Pokemon GO. It is a screen overlay that you can toggle on and off. You have to give it your trainer level, and it will give you the corresponding protractor to determine your pokemon's level. It also has an IV calc built right into it as well.

I got my first dragonite today!! It appeared as "cp???" and I used about 15 ultra balls and 35 great balls, all with berries, but none of them would hold him.. so I was getting pretty mad and started chucking normal pokeballs at him since that's all I had left, but surprisingly I caught him with the third one! I'm still shocked he didn't go *poof* after that many throws
