Because after the Skyrim fiasco, I'm wary about the modding scene being stuck behind a paywall from Day 1. And Bethesda games are nearly unplayable without modding...

From there, you choose from the menu to play a modded game, so that way nothing terrible can happen to your main save if things break. So how is this different from just backing up your save file? Is it saying that it will somehow keep track of your progress on a separate, vanilla file so that if your modded one breaks you can load a new save with the vanilla progress still there? If so that's pretty neat.

Unless you're talking level 1 with no speed/vehicles/mounts.

If it's a 3d map with different height levels (unlike GTA 5 for example), who cares if you can sprint it in 10 minutes on one level. It's roughly 3 times bigger than Fallout 3 (and all in all bigger than Skyrim), nobody complained there - why is it "a thing" now? PS: coming from someone who spent roughly 1000 hours on chernarus and taviana. Mapsize doesn't matter at all. What matters is what they filled it with.

Just remember like the very first side-quest you pick up, finding the magic ring in the cave. Walked down the road looking for some rock I was supposed to turn left at and ended up in Balmora.

It's really a shame that they are making fallout map even smaller (if the 10min) run across the entire map is possible. Some time past since i tested this but Skyrim was arround 30minutes or so, and Morrowind was arround 2 hours.

Unless you've specced into athletics + speed and are a redguard I have serious doubts you're going from seyda need to balmora in under 10 minutes by just wandering around.

Fair point except morrowind was so packed full of shit to do that its sequels (fallout 3, new vegas, oblivion, skyrim) all are lacking and smaller.

What made morrowind seem big is that running drained your stamina. Walking was the default option. If I'm not mistaken the trek from Seyda Neen to Balmora takes about 15-20 minutes the first time you do it. There's also no fast travel so you need to know your way around the "public transportation system". In all, I still find Morrowind to be superior to both Oblivion and Skyrim. It managed to suck me in a lot more than either of its successors did. Fallout 3 actually managed to scratch that itch that Morrowind did, even though I felt I had pretty much seen all there is to it after 30-40 hours. One of the main things I like about both Morrowind and Fallout 3 is that during the main quest you also get the chance, and are in a way forced to learn why things are the way they are. In Oblivion and Skyrim you can just wander around without having a clue, which bothers me, and their main quests have about the same quality of writing than many sidequests, which is disappointing. It felt to me that Bethesda spent way too much time on the environmental details while they should have spent more time actually developing the story and lore.
