As the title implies, this thread is to share your stories of ranking up (and deranking) in competitive MM. No elitism, all ranks accepted, just remember that we all get what we deserve in the end ;-)
As for me, I got unranked for the first time from DMG to double AK (previous times were for inactivity), while attempting this "win 2 maps on nuke" mission..... First map win was a breeze, but the next four tries were........ Somehow we always got 3people unable to fetch more than 5kills during the whole CT side -.- that was unexpected. Losing around 12-3/11-4 as ct... Wow... It's even more frustrating that it was a good day for me and i consistently topfragged all 4 games...
Tonight i'll get that win whatever it takes, so see you in gold nova tomorrow xD
Id like to take a moment to acknowledge all the faceless players out there who have ranked up from losses or ties. I dont care what the internet says; it's possible.
I guess you can always rank up with a loss if you played cheaters before, they get VACed and the game results are reverted.
As far as ties are concerned: I've seen on Incontrol's recent streams that ties also count towards the 2-wins a day limit on new accounts so it's very likely that ties are counted as wins for both teams internally.
if i looked at my own progress in terms of MM ranks i'd probably feel like i have been stagnating for a long time now but i know i have improved a lot
i was supreme first time at around 80 wins, global for the first time at around 200 wins, and ever since it's just been bouncing between supreme and global and right now at almost 400 wins i am at supreme
i think people who want to play seriously should put their main focus on 3rd party PUG services (mainly faceit or ESEA) once they have reached LEM, although you can of course give them a try even if you are lower ranked
I seem to only rank up when i don't do well compared to other games, e.g. I'll go 39-19 in a game and then I'll go even, but rank up from the even game
On January 17 2015 01:12 Jer99 wrote: I seem to only rank up when i don't do well compared to other games, e.g. I'll go 39-19 in a game and then I'll go even, but rank up from the even game
Valve never explained their system, but as far as we can tell, your performance in game is weighted a lot less than the actual result of the game. It is especially important to have winstreaks if you want to rank up (losing streak for the inverse).
I personnally went up to LEM from DMG on a lucky 16-win winstreak when the new maps for operation breakout were released and nobody knew them. I eventually ranked down but managed to reach eagle two more time. I went as far down as MG2 tho when I had really unlucky losing streaks (playing against cheaters / with leavers and flamers). And now im back in DMG as usual.

Ranking up is done by comparing skill with the people you're playing. So bashing on a team of silvers will get you ranked up far slower than going even or so against a higher ranked team
Can confirm that ranking up while loosing is possible. Had it once. But i was playing with better guys (i was like gold nova 3 and everyone else was MGE or MG2).
Ranking up while having a tie also happened at least twice to me. In these I was on the same level as my teammates.
After all (1,2k hours) I dont give a damn about ranking up and down. I know my faults and what i am able to do, where my strenghs lie etc. I once dropped from MGE to gold nova 2 cause I changed my mousesensivity. That was crazy hard for me, but the new sensitivity was way better for me after all. I can aim a lot better nowadays even though its my weakspot.
btw the rank up in a loss didnt happen during the time i changed my mousesense. it was way before.
in my experience in the AK ranks you rank up with 3+ straight wins with normal stats or rank down after 3 concussive losses. (also DMG. freaking DMG - always when im DMG i loose 3 in a row -.-)
Ranked to Supreme for the 3rd time in 4 days. First and second games on Supreme ended up playing vs the same stack with a booster that toggles mid game and goes from the lowest score to the 'carry' which wins their game. I'm sad.
And for everyone that ends up ranking while losing, Vitaly explained that 'ranking up' is delayed. So when you ranked up after a loss, you actually ranked up before that loss but it takes a game for the rank to apply.

ah ok. thanks! soruce would be cool but isnt necessary
Ranking up when you have lost is possible. I always assume that it is either lag in the system or just that they have deleted a game where a hacker was found which pushed the "ELO" up enough.
I started with DMG and now I'm gold nova 2. Walled, Aimbotted, and TK'd to death. Now I'm clawing my way back to DMG. Crazy that people still cheat in novas, for whatever reason.

Why would it be crazier than people cheating in global elite? Maybe it's because they just started cheating
I feel your pain though ><
the other day some guy in my team started toggling wallhack/aimbot, i tried a vote to kick him but of course there is always this guy who f2 because he only cares when the cheater is an opponent... Halfway through the game the cheater got "kicked by console, account untrusted" (his steam profile was new with only 2 hours played) vac banned. Cool to know they don't always get away with hundreds/thousands of hours played before getting caught
Ranking up with a loss is definitely possible (it's also possible in sc2 btw). There could be different reasons for this. For example, the game could only consider the last *x* amount of matches played, and if your x-th loss was against higher rated players than your 1st loss in that sequence, your average rating would still increase. Or like others stated, maybe it's just server lag or opponents getting VAC'ed.
Individual stats are either irrelevant or veryyy lightly weighted. When I started playing csgo I only played together with a friend, I got ~40 frags every map and he got like 5, we still ended up in the same rank 30 games later. I know, anecdotal evidence and all, but that obviously would never happen if personal stats were important.
If you go on a winning streak you can rank up multiple times in a row. When I started solo-ing I won 13 games in a row in DMG, then every win after that I got instantly promoted, so GE after 4 more wins.
7th loss on nuke with complete retards, I'm seeing a few novas, will probably derank soon. Then again, I'm aiming like SHIT so I deserve it right now....
Completely new to Counter Strike, been playing CS:GO for 2-3 months now, I finally just hit Gold Nova definitelly felt good to get away from that pesky silver rank. (No doubt I'll lose my first game and drop back down)
Edit: Make that Gold Nova 2! (Ranking in this game is strange some times)
On January 17 2015 04:50 Phyanketto wrote: I dunno why, but every game I server top, win half lose half, still stuck in silver 3. LEM friend says I should be high nova at least.
Top frag doesn't mean much for your rating. If you're winning 50% of your games, then it makes sense that you'd stay at the same rank.
I feel like it's been pointless to rank up when I hit LEM in November and have been ESEA-ing to improve since early December. Anyone else in the same boat?

better servers, better games, and access to scrimming/league play. Why not?

MM is really pointless if you can hold your own in esea pugs and actually want to start playing competitive.
I've probably played 2 mm's in the past 7 months and probably will never play another.

It's especially odd as it seems only NA servers have issues, I don't play a lot of MM but EU servers rarely have had problems.
Got Gold Nova 3 back today, mostly due to the wonderful Censured, ArtyK and TurboDreams from TL here who I queued with. So, so much fun to play with good, calm and coordinated players. It's a different game compared to solo queue.

You know what they say, MM is just the tip of the iceberg.

I was there ! :D It was a blast to play without someone leaving the game in the first 5 minutes, though thanks to my OVER 9000 PING i almost did haha
I don't ever expect to move. I'm at like 570 wins and I've played 90% of them at DMG solo queue. Maybe it's my skill cap, maybe it's cheaters and bad streaks but I don't ever move. I've got down to double ak probably 6-7 times but always carry my games and easely get back to dmg within 10 or so games.
The only way I play vs eagles consistently is by queueing with other peoples, I've won several and could probably get to eagle if I stopped the solo queue but I won't.
My only hope is when (if) they introduce a "mm2" with a soft reset and a different ranking system.
Started playing like 2 weeks ago, got Gold Nova 1, promoted to 2, back to 1, and last night got demoted to silver :D Does anyone know the rank distribution percentages, like what you can check for SC2 on nios.kr? I can't believe how bad I must be when getting demoted to silver compared to what I think of myself. In SC2 would constantly think how bad people were and then see them having a high rank. In CS I get rekt by people oneshotting me before I can barely react and then they are like gold nova 2 ^^

I've also seen people rank down after a win.
Again, it's been rumoured that the algorithms for ranking up / down are heavily based on comparing your personal your person mmr against that of the other team. So playing 'well' against a bad team might give you less of a boost than playing 'badly' against a much better team
Was DMG when I played quite a bit about 2 months ago. Since then exams and a new girlfriend and I have downranked to Master Guardian I My goal is to get back to MGE by the end of February!
think im on a streak of 9 wins and 2 pre-round 15 surrenders, think i placed out of top3 within team only once, and still no eagle promotion... kinda discouraging considering people call the jump from eagle and up even more hellish
i think that once you get to that point, it's best to start looking towards getting involved in league play since you're at the skill level to play in open divisions and get better there

ESEA vs FACEIT, thats the question and the plan. Gonna play some with that when i have the god damn eagle, I WANT IT

It also has been hinted at that ranks are sometimes given to you after you actually acquire it.
So for example you lose a game and the system decides it needs to rank you down, but it does not apply the change to your actual displayed rank. Then you win a game where you don't gain enough "elo points" to gain back that rank, the system applies the change to your displayed rank.
Something like that.
Its probably done like that avoid cases where you rank up and then immediatly rank down after a single loss. The system makes sure that you either deserve a promotion or a demotion.
You will, because it matches you against opponents of your rank. The more you play the more it will adjust, up or down :-) But the 2 wins/day limit will go away once you get a rank ^^
Ranking up is the hardest thing I've ever tried to do.
And now I'm getting cued up against people who have 150 ping and live across the world on USW servers. No reg, rubberbanding, and I can feel another derank coming soon. Silvers, make some space, I'm gonna try and squeeze in.
I'm in silver 1, the system put me here since I haven't been playing fps games for years, this is fine. However I had a positive winrate since I got the rank and 2 days ago I won 10 games in a row with being at least the 2nd best player and still no promotion in sight.

I'm in silver too, topfragging, and yeah it takes time. Can't say I'm really looking forward to promotion, the game is less stressful at lower levels and having a high k/d ratio feels rewarding. So enjoy it while it lasts. My personal theory is that the ELO rankings (or whatever they use) are much more diverse at silver (like it is the case in sc2 for bronze), so naturally it takes more wins for a promotion. I also think it depends on the server. East Europe is really packed I assume? So the ELO distribution is larger there, hence diversity at silver larger too.
Took years off, just got into GO six months ago. Immediately went into ranked, got placed GN2. Felt awful.
After a few weeks of training, steadily ranked up to DMG. Had a LAN weekend with friends (old CS buddies from highschool), slowly deranked "playing for fun" with them to GN4.
So after the 10 games i directly came into Silver 4. Played no CS:S and 1.6 for about 400 hours on steam at total over 5 years ago. Most other FPS on Xbox.
Hard times where hard for but damn I have been carried by random match making: 3 Victorys in a row because some random smurfs in my random team in random match making, made me Silver E., again the same and i have been Silver E.M. It took some days till have gotten a 9 games no lose streak (8 wins, 1 remis) to become G.N. 1. And now I am sitting in Nova 2, getting killed left and right, my K-D-Ratio falls appart, I play with my 115hours CS:GO experience against and with either high class smurfs or Players who playing this game for donkey years, most over 500-1000 hours and alot more on CS:S. I am really falling appart but still my teams win, I fear to rank up more.
I dont get this system. I startet to adept on Silver E.M., but I defently need alot more games till I can competete in Nova 2, but I feel i gonna uprank soon again.

None of us understands the ranking system because if we did understand it, then we would game the system for a higher rank. Just focus on your own skills and let your rank be an after thought
Been winning a LOT of games lately, even ones I had no business winning. For example, my team went 4 - 11 on CT side of cobble, and we ended up winning 16 - 14. For some reason im also doing pretty good in those games (I even topfragged playing against a supreme), but maybe its because i've been playing more lately. I've also been duoqueuing instead of soloqueuing and this helps a lot.

Duoqueuing is great, and playing a lot is super important. If you make sure to DM every single day, you'll stay sharp. It's when you take 4 or 5 days off that you start to suck.
I have been bouncing between MGE and Badge for about a year, My play is that inconsistent. I have been Eagle once for about 3 days lol didn't win a single game after I ranked up to it. I also always play solo which may account for my inconsistency. I hear people that do premades and work good together rank up a lot faster.
And after LWWLLWWW while bottomfragging nearly everytime except the last win, I'm back in my natural shithole : DMG. I don't even get how this ranking works lol. Win streaks ? Why ?! :-D
My ultimate goal is still LEM, but with two matches a week and sometimes weeks without playing, I'm not counting on it anymore -_- My aim feel like it's never been worse. I used to get 55% Headshots now it's more 35 :/

Yeah, for some reason it feels easier for me to play on my "smurf" account that is MG2 now than on my main that is nova3. Maybe it is because nova people do really random things (pushing through smokes etc)

people pushing through smokes has caught me out so many times in nova :|
Got this game on January 1st and I played so much this month, like 4 games per day on average I'd say. Have not played that much in a month since sc2 release I think.
It's not even a top FPS game for me. Gameplay wise I like RTCW, ET, q3, warsow and CoD 2 all more but matchmaking is just so convenient and ranking up is fun. No more organizing clanwars on IRC like in ET times where getting a match going sometimes took 30+ minutes. Or Warsow which sometimes didn't have a single duel server worldwide with people on it and you had to join an empty server and wait 10 minutes for someone to join (I just have to smile when people call BW or SC2 a dead game :D )
Anyway I got placed in silver 2 and today got promoted to gold nova 4 in exactly 80 wins.
Something I noticed is that I am just average in standard situations but quite good in pistol rounds and when I am the last one alive in 1v3 situation or so. I guess it is from previous FPS experience that my aiming is relatively better then others in my skillgroup but I lack experience.

Right?! I played with my Nova friend before the change to the MM system so we were against a bunch of 3-4 stars and they play so weirdly it catches me off guard. I think perhaps one of the worst things is you can't rely on your teammates because they won't hold their angles, they just won't. As CT, they'll drop your back without saying anything and they'll retreat until there's no where for them to run and they'll die there.
It's difficult to carry a GN team because you have to rely in your shooting. Now I'm LEM and my shooting is absolute garbage, I'm winning solely off of positional play and a general loose awareness of what's happening in the map. I'll outgun GNs most of the time but I can't play like a COD player and just flick everyone because I have to watch 3 spots at once.
I got teamed up with some smurfs 2 games in a row, basicly went AFK, leaned back, watched the destruction of our opponent Went from silver III to silver IV. Feeling good. EZ GAME.

Thats how i came from nothing over Silver IV to Gold Nova 2.
Random Games, no premade teams, allways smurfs in my team or enemy team. Bam Gold Nova 2 after 40 wins.
Now I am back in Gold Nova 1, but I still do not belong there. The amount of 1k hours gamers or smurfs is so high, it is like rolling a dice and you feel no impact on a game whatsoever. I hope I am soon back to Silver where I belong for the moment, the amount of smurfs is much lower, they just rank up 2 fast.
Valve should just put all the "got only CS:GO or the got two 0.2 hours f2p games + CS:GO" accounts in a own League while not letting em know. But hey, every smurf account is a sold coppy. The Problem is, these players are mostly the worst mannered players on the servers, they flame enemys, teammates and whatever else, they start votekicks in round 2 because you couldnt get the 1vs4 in the eco round. Shure I should not complain so much, but damn, it gets on your nerves, because noone of them has good manners, they all flame and start votekicks for nothing in earliest rounds.
And then you have servers in MM which give you damn hard lags...
But hey, it is called Mad Making for reason. As soon as I am back in Silver VI, the promissed lands will be there.
i managed by solo queuing to reach MGE. In a few weeks time im back to mg1 after being mostly in the top 2 fraggers and always in the top 3 fraggers. That shit is enraging man..fUCK
Played my first MM game at LEM in a while. I expected to get totally destroyed, but instead I've played one of the best games I've ever played on matchmaking. Great teammates (skilled + communicative + funny), good and fair opponents, nobody really carried and the game was even and fun. yay \o/

what was your winstreak for mg2-mge
I went 6 wins in a row without ranking, now I'm starting to lose again because valve decided to put me in a 100 ping server (India) because why the fuck not

Well i m not sure but all i remember we trashed a couple of games like 16-2 16-4, it was perhaps 4/5ish games but they were completely one sided
My triumphant return to MM after quitting since the new WoW launch: 0 and 3! Haven't even gotten a rank (they disappear due to activity apparently).
Game 1: All AK and Double AK, ok, this is where I was before leaving. WTF is this map? Shit, forgot to ban Operation maps. We lose.
Game 2: Aks and Novas. Uh oh. And it's fucking Overpass, this map sucks. Someone on other team drops a 40bomb, one of my teammates starts the game 1-10. We lose.
Game 3: Cobblestone. Goddamnit. Other team has obvious waller who AWPs entire game, we lose. AKs, Novas, and a Silver.
I haven't even bothered to queue again, but I've deselected every map except Nuke, Inferno, Mirage, and Train.
Made my way back to Legendary Eagle carrying some buddies on my back (sometimes with the help of other good friends mind ye). One guy I play with is DMG now and he can't get more than like 5 kills per game against other DMGs. Whoop whoop.
I came back to this game in August after like a 1 & 1/2 year break. At my low point, I was briefly a double AK. About a month ago, I was LEM for a day. Then I didn't play over winter break, and I'm back at DMG. Quite the roller coaster ride.
Your performance matters a slight amount, but MMR is mostly based on your win/loss and the margin that you win by. If you win 16-0 you'll rank up faster. Also, it depends on who you play against. Teams you're supposed to lose against will give more than teams that it expects you to beat.
I didn't play for about 3 months, and before i stop i ranked down from double AK to one star playing with friends, and then solo queue my way back up to 3 stars. Just earlier yesterday I decided to play one game, and since i wasn't active for a while the game require me to do one calibration match again. I went bottom flag on my team but we won, to my surprise the game gave me one AK. Shouldn't it give me my old rank of 3 stars?
I ranked up from nova 2 to nova 3, got 16-0'd due to 2 people on my team spinning in spawn the whole time and them having a smurf and was immediately demoted back to 2.
Gotta love how weird the ranking system is sometimes. I was GNM about 2 months ago, lost my rank because I didn't play enough. So I started to play again to gain my rank back, was playing with some TL people from the 1st community night where we didn't had enough players to do 10 man and we ended up playing MM. If I remember correctly, some people were around the MG1-MGE ranks with a couple of unranked like me, we played 2-3 games and lost all of them and I had a pretty shitty score all games.
I think a couple days later, I played some soloq MM to try and get my rank back again. I played 2 games where both were against mg1-mg2 and I still had a pretty shitty score. I was able to win one of the games and I ended up being rank MG1. How can I gain a rank after loosing my rank(GNM), not playing for so long and playing like crap every single game...
After realizing that it's been nearly a month I haven't played MM and was about to loose my rank again, I decided to go play some soloq. Played 1 game, against MG1-MG2 ranks again, finished the game with a terrible score again but we won it and guess what, RANK UP again! WTF seriously, I shouldn't be anywhere MG with how terrible I am atm...
16-14 bottom fragged 1-13 top fragged (not that it matters) 15-15 most kills on the team (the guy in 1st only scored more than me with bomb plants/defusals) 11-16 15-15 top frag 14-16
opened up just now to find that I ranked back down to gn3 when I was still gn4 when I shut down last night.
Altho I have to say, the level of play at global elite is dogshit. We could troll the whole game doing random shit like rushing b every round on dust 2 and still destroying the other team. I remember LEM being much harder than global now before the banwave. I guess its time to look at alternatives, but im reluctant to pay for ESEA and I dont like faceit. I've tried CEVO some time ago, but I don't know if I like the lack of automatic matchmaking.
Yeah man I played with a SMFC dude that literally looked like a gold player the other day :D ESEA is pretty good, but I think the faceit ladder system makes it interesting, although I haven't tried the paid matchmaking. Grats on global, gotta grind to reach it too now that it's holidays time!
It can happen when you've had hackers on your teams in the past that got VAC banned. Results of those games are reverted. Sucks assuming you didn't know or queue with them

You only checked your last 8 games I assume, since that's all that you can access within CSGO? There have been several major VAC ban waves in the last week or two, a lot of accounts have been banned that were hacking for a very long time.
Afaik there is no other way you could derank without playing.
There's a neat chrome extension that allows you to check VAC bans on the friends steam page, and works on all the tabs. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ban-checker-for-steam/canbadmphamemnmdfngmcabnjmjgaiki It stopped working for a moment but seems to have been updated and to work again. You can install that, check your friendlist and your "recently played with" tab for bans.

Same. Was MGE for a long time, and achieved LE last night but it feels bittersweet because the level of play doesn't really seem too much higher, just that everyone got shifted on the bell curve when a bunch of spots opened up due to the ban waves. Still feel like I'm pretty bad and that my opponents are for the most part not particularly strong either.
So i figured that telephones don't exist in russia. Apperantly you have to talk to your friends and family through CS ingame voice while ruining the game for everybody.
works oke-ish .. hehe. Had a game last night too with 4 eastern friends. We ALL tried really hard to communicate with each other.. but oh boy.. Still was a fun match thou.
Over the last three weeks i`ve played like 10 to 12 games and got promoted twice without any kind of effort. I even made a team kill which caused us a lost round but still got promoted. It was a good night overall. Got an ace, made 3 and 4k`s with famas - burst mode! (hrhr) - and all that vs. sem/gn1 guys. I felt like 18 all over again
Got to double AK last bought. Just one more to go for my badge. :D. I was thinking about trying out ESEA for month, but do you guys think that MGE is too low?

its a bit on the low side but with ESEA getting bigger and the average skill level in pugs getting lower, I don't see why not try it out.
you can buddy me or anyone that has ESEA on here and we'll pug it out :D

I appreciate it man will do.
Edit Just got ESEA today. My account name is SonicAlarm. Like I said, I'm only MGE, but I'd love to meet and play with some of you TLers as I improve.
The pain ive felt in the last 2 weeks, been really putting in the effort to improve / rank up. Which has mostly been aim practice since my aim is trash.
I reached MGE before my 2 friends and they ranked up to DMG before me, now they can STFU.
All within a month though, im a Vac wave profiteer.
You're just legit DMG, when DMG used to be the shithole in which everybody deserving higher ranks got thrown because of the hackers occupying slots above :D (I mean that in a good way, ranks right now are what they kinda were supposed to be before the hackfest that came with the rise in popularity of the game)
Ranked up to MG2 last night, feelsgoodman. I knew it was my promotion game, and was strat calling for my team.
It was a perfect storm, almost every single call I made went exactly right.
PR (T): "Go mid to arches, fake A, kill rotate in speedway, go B". - Happens exactly like that. 4 alive on round win
2nd Round: "Don't just rush out, they'll probably nade stack" *boomboomboomboom* "Ok, now just A"
4th Round: "Fake B, kill rotation in apts" - kill 2 in apts, easy win
It continued on like that, people were talking in mm1 about "holy shit, this guy's calls" and "what's your real rank". It was just one of those nights. I was shooting so well that during an eco, after we got a pick the guy took the rifle and ran it over to me to give it to me. Felt amazing.

I realy like pistol rounds (GN1) It was like an awakening one day. Everyone just bumrushed each other and goes crazy AD-AD and crouchspaming. I figured if I stay back, find at least one direction I can't be attacked from and just a step and aim for the heads it should go well. I slowly started applying the same mentality for buy rounds and have consistently top or second top fragged for the last 10 matches now. After some reading, turns out I naively discovered the rudimental basics to holding angles and positioning. It's like when in secondary you'd go about the hard way solving a math problem without knowing there is an existing formula everyone else has been using for the past hundred years :D.
Finally crawled out of the Silver trench on my smurf and got to Gold Nova. Guess it's kinda shit lol. I mean I've posted here a lot getting paired against smurfs lots of times. I have a lot of hours on CS:GO compared to most people and I have practiced a lot. I do only solo queue though, never played with anyone else just pure solo queue so it's heads of tails if I get a good team that communicates or complete shit. For reference I picked up CS:GO more seriously since April of last year.
Duo queued with a friend yesterday, didn't go too well.
First time touching the game in almost a year, and probably friends first time in several months. before quitting I was supreme (not sure how I never got GE promo, had a ridiculous win streak [one of the reasons I quit]), he was probably eagle1/2.
apparently there is pretty much NO mmr decay or reset.. the game was psuedo-competitive (16-9) but end of game enemy team was all eagle 2's with one eagle1 and one supreme.
I played pretty bad towards the end but still made some nice shots and had a couple clutches in the beginning. Not really sure how your mmr can be kept when you haven't logged on in almost a year.
I did some sick PUG IGL'ing on the T side to asist us to victory. :D
Reaching DMG in under a year after starting to play comp CS was a goal of mine I set a few months back and it's awesome to finally do it (I started in late July in S3.).
Did the ranking system get improved and now takes your points/KD into account?
I got promoted into supreme after a horrible streak of lose/draw every game where purely my team was to blame for. I was always doing very well, carryed hard on T and doing (given the circumstnces) pretty well, only to get crushed on CT then since my enemys where unable to hold any goddmand site, all game everygame. 4 Guys stacking A? Site still collapsed without one T dead. It left me witth an impressive K/D but I got really depressed by losing so many games, most of them even pretty close, with having over 30 frags more than the second best on my team, having silent mates, guys buying scout+armor every eco( hate this trend...) without doing much etc. Then, after another heartbreaking draw I got promoted to supreme. Propably the single best moment in GO I had so far. Never before I felt sadness, anger, joy and confusion in such a rapid succession. My thoughts where like: Fuck, another draw... we should have won this goddamnit. (sadness) At least I played well... (kind of satifaction) If only they did to! (anger) Pleae no derank... (hope) *you where promoted to...* (hope lost incoming) Goddamnit I knew I am ging to get dera... You what?! (suprise) What the fuck?! (confusion. thi actually lasted quite a while. I was sitting their shaking my head for a few minutes for sure) Fuck yeah!!!! (pure joy and still confusion) *close go instantly*
It happened last evening and I am still pumped, such an rollercoaster :D

I think it always did to some extend. But we will never know how it truly works. One of the great mysteries of our time. National Geographic should do a documentary on that: "Quantum mechanis and CS:GO's elo system. Great riddles of our world." xD

I would really apreciate that! A few month ago, I did lose quite a few ranks with exact the same story, just minus the promotion xD...
"Aufranken nach lauter Niederlagen und Unentschieden? Klingt komisch, ist aber so" / "Ranking up after countless losses/draws? Sounds strange, but its a thing!"
Whoo!!! It felt like it was obviously going to happen if I kept playing more matches but I just popped up into DMG while solo que. And wow does the game get so much more enjoyable the higher and higher the rank you go. Teams that use teamwork OP.
finally made AK after starting a looong time ago at the very bottom, silver 1.. completely new to cs, not knowing that you run faster with knife, etc... feels good man

Started playing this game again after i fixed an issue i had previousely. Started playing ranked a few days ago. Havent gotten my first 10 wins yet but i'm getting there. Not sure what skill level im at though. Gold players feel rather skilled compared to me but i feel silver elite players are too easy.......
I hit GN3 last night after initially calibrating at GN1 about...maybe 6 weeks ago? Nice to rank up for sure but it felt somewhat undeserved as I played like ass in both my games last night.
Started playing CS:GO a month ago. GN3 and rising. I solo search and consistently get top in kills, but lose a lot of matches due to horrendous teams. I figure I am probably around AK level realistically. I am ranking up quickly though, I hope to get good at the game, as I am really enjoying it.
I`ve stucked in Silver IV like... forever. But since the recent ban wave i`ve made 5 Ranks +. I know the ranking mmr is a little disordered, but it feels good non the less
Also i had a sneak peak at GN4 guys... prepare yourselves!
Faced some DMG's today, so uprank is apparently inc. But the resuslt was kinda meh, 1 loss 2 tie 1 win :/ Maybe uprank tomorrow tho, I'll let you guys know ^_^
Edit: it went down the drain, 2 hardcore losses and ragequit :p
WTF happened ? I left for 3 monthes, come back, immediately ranked eagle, the matches look like nova playing, even LEM look like scrubs, I mean, WTF ? And we're playing like SILVERS, no nades, no headshots, no strats, shitty gunfights... ?????
On June 06 2015 05:08 Nimix wrote: The massive vac ban waves screwed up the ranks a lot, LE/LEM ranges from barely MGE to crazy ass only one click pros :D
Yea, I even got to global pretty easily soon after the banwaves and it really did not feel like I deserved it because I struggled to get to LEM before the banwaves. Now LEM is filled with people who run around without any communication or teamplay.

Most unsatisfactory rank up ever :-/
Lots of ban waves is what happened. Eagles are pretty bad now. The only competent players are Supreme +. And Supreme on MM is like 10 RWS on ESEA.
Started playing CSGO about 2 month ago. MG2 and rising. I think I can get pretty good at this game. I just don't know all the pro nade spots and jumps and stuff but my fundamentals are getting to be pretty good.
I seem to rank up with draws, happened to me two times, this weekend I played a very close game on season, nobody knew the positions or angles on that map (guess everyone, me included was doing the mission to upgrade their coins) so it was very hectic (not to mention calling consisted mostly of naming a doodad+nearest bomb site), at 15-14 I was in 3v1 and couldn't land the last kill to get the win. I was very angry with myself because I forced the guy out from a corner on B with an incendiary and tagged him as well, I was at a clear positional/hp advantage but instead of picking up a dropped awp I tried to close the distance but couldn't finish him when he peeked and he just hs-d me and that was it. I facepalmed so hard I almost missed the post game screen. Still ranked up at the end (GN III woot) so my emo got dispelled fast .
On June 24 2015 18:32 BeeLz wrote: Got back to supreme master first class, global elite will probably be a bit too hard to get with 90% solo queue
This is actually going rather well. I did queue up with friends for half of my matches.
Played 13 games, lost 3, draw 1 and won 9. I might actually get back to Global elite for the first time since calibration when MM was just introduced :p
Would be really nice if I get it with less than 1000 hours played, 40 hours left
I guess the banwaves really helped since I had trouble getting out of DMG 2 months ago, I did start playing a bit more though, still not even close at the level I was in cs 1.6 but that might have something to do with my garbage PC.
Just ranked up to MG1. I'm finding a lot of variation in skill levels. There are some guys who are really good, making good use of nades, holding angles well, hitting shots they should hit, etc. Then there are guys who are half deaf, only run around with smg's, make shit half buys second round after pistol and in general bad players for the rank they are at.
Not rank per se, but I just appreciated for the first time just how utterly crazy top-tier awpers like JW and Kenny are. It really makes me wish the awp nerf were undone.
Two general themes that keep happening. The first which sucks the soul out of me is me carrying the team super hard and up to 13 or 14 round wins and having the enemy team stage a comeback to either tie or win all the way down from 6 or 8 round wins. WHYYYYYYY.
The other thing that keeps happening is I get a solid team and do okay and get easy wins or really close games. Every time I get really hot I end up with derankers on my team or just not a very solid group of fellows to hold out on CT.
Still having a blast, but jesus does getting up to LEM seem like it will be struggle.
I've been playing a few of the calibrating matches with friends with a wide skill range, (from gold2/3 to mid silver), and a few on my own. It's going pretty well, I'm missing two matches to receive my rank. The only thing that pissed me off is last night, in a solo-q match, I had to play these bunch of retards that fed throughout the whole game, just rushing with knife at hand and spamming shit. I guess they're doing it to be ranked shit and then pave their way up ranking. I felt so bad for the guy paired with them, he was pretty good but ended up abandoning half game. Too bad you can't even report these idiots, I mean I did but marked them as text abusive.
Text abusive is unlikely to do anything, that should have been a report for grieving which does go into the overwatch queue where this guys can get banned/long cooldowns for that behavior.

I can't even report people for grieving, dunno why. the option is greyed out. The worst thing is that it wasn't a single guy, it was a group of three people.

oh, no, they were on the opposite one. i guess the system doesn't let you report players in the other team for grieving, makes sense :p
btw i finished my calibrating matches, ended up GNM. dunno if i should be satisfied enough, being that I picked up csgo a week ago. last time i played cs was in 1.6
Woohoo, after some time, i finally managed to get MG2! Yesterday was pretty good, a 3 - 1 mapscore, mostly in the 16-5/8 range, with the defeat being a 14-16
Also, an epic 3 consecutive noscopes in Mirage connector, I should make a video (though I've no idea how yet).

You lost versus a hacker, he got banned and you had 1 (maybe more) losses voided. So that might just have pushed your mmr past the point of promotion, gz anyways.
On another note, got promoted to SMFC last night for the second time, hope I can stick around longer this time.
That's pretty sweet for me then, but do the others on the team that won also get corrected? So if you promote perhaps, but with a cheater on the team. Do you drop back down?
Got LE. Every time I rank up I feel super inspired and feel like playing a lot but then something happens and all the motivation goes down the drain >_> here we go agaaiiinnn
On a sidenote, I'm 7 - 2 since I ranked up MG2. I want deeeee-eeeem-geeeeee! (And the good thing is, wins were not even close, losses were close and I carried).
And then I'll get demolished in the next 5 games of course! \o/

study your demos to see what you're doing right and or wrong. Study pro demos on the same maps so you can see what they do. for aim, deathmatch, 1v1 arenas, aim maps are the way to go. For practicing movement, KZ is my go to game mode to play. you can also post your demos here and people can help you analyze them

I like to do like 10 - 20 minutes before I launch a competitive every day I play, starting with some USP tapping, glock practice, then moving on to AK/M4 practice (currrenlty, I'm trying to spray efficiently at mid range, and it's a great way to do that).

I just played the best game of my life, almost guaranteed rank up given I'm on a streak. 33-8-10 on Mirage. Also got the Competitive Match Wins mission too. Ended the game 16-4. Didn't fucking record ANY of it. Not on my match history, didn't complete my mission, NOTHING.
After an exhausting 8 wins in a row (not even close games most of the time) I finally got Nova 4... All the time I was like: next team gonna suck so hard no way I gonna win 1 more^^ so happy now... Ak I´m coming
It's a good feeling going from Nova to AK for the first time. Going from AK to DMG feels even better. Then once you get Eagle you feel good but at that point you're tired of MMing and want to strangle porkRaven.

I haven't played in several months and see now that I have to be "rank 3" to play competitive games. Before I took a break, I was ranked Master Guardian II. Does anyone else agree that it's insane that I have to play like 30 casual games before I'm allowed to play competitive again?! Is there a way I can get "grandfathered" into being able to play comp again?
I typically only enjoy the game when I can play comp with friends.. so this is a pretty crappy user experience on Valve's part and seems like an oversight in the whole rank 3 requirement for comp.
been on GN4 for 3 weeks now after the consecutive 3 ranks up 3 weeks ago. I ranked up from GN1 to GN4 on just one weekend. Then...2 close games. my pc crashed and was unable to rejoin (we lost) me and my friends always rank up/down at the same time, so they hated me, we could have probably been AK now ;_;

...Global Elite! Guess it is time to stop playing now, especially after I checked my scorecard: Either that, or I just focus on making 2kills max per round, until I got another 103 kills ;-)
Got supreme on my smurf too.. However can't seem to get to global on my main, despite having only wins aside from one loss and two ties in my recent history x_x The skill discrepancies between players of the same rank is appalling, playing in supreme somtimes feels like playing in gold nova..

Ever since the aimjunkies ban, the match making ranks have seemed so skewed an unbalanced.
There are novas playing in cevo and esea that are legitimately better than half the LEs I come across when I am smurfing, so many of whom still can't use sound or the radar properly (let alone have decent game sense whatsoever)
Higher up the rank tree it's even worse. My fellow supremes are generally terrible players for their rank. SMFC/GE used to be your 15+ efficacy/12+ rws players... now everyone I come across brags about playing ESEA and then links me to a 7 RWS profile...
I just want to get back into GE and never play MM again.
Yea thats what I've been doing. I hit GE then did nothing but faceit. The thing is, it takes a long time to get that faceit rank thing up. Sometimes I do a MM game to keep my rank and thats about it.
Hit AK for the first time today, I was playing with a friend who is just transitioning over from 1.6 and he hasn't even finished his placement matches but we used to play together 10 years ago (and are very good friends IRL as well), he doesn't give a shit about skins, ranks, the proscene, reddit, never watches twitch, the guy is basically playing CS like it was 2003. And I think his "living under a rock" mentality enabled me to really enjoy the game for what it is: playing to the best of our ability and having fun, maybe a bit of friendly banter with strangers and yo mama jokes. (just to clarify, neither of us have played CS for the past 10 years continuously, would a mild disgrace if we were around MG level :S )
God damnit, my buddy got promoted before I did AGAIN! Happy for him. I guess playing 2 games a week on MM is not conducive to geting global elite but I'm probably 1-2 games away from it D:

I typically only enjoy the game when I can play comp with friends.. so this is a pretty crappy user experience on Valve's part and seems like an oversight in the whole rank 3 requirement for comp.
Cuts down on smurfs, active players had time to get rank 3 before they put in the ranked restriction
Oh I TOTALLY forgot to brag in this thread, I'm the new sheriff in town!
It's special to me because ever since I got placed in Silver Elite Master after my placement matches DMG was the rank I'd set for myself as a long-term goal. It's much easier nowadays with more VAC ban waves than it used to be but it's still the rank I always wanted to achieve and now it finally happened! Feels very good!
Well I ranked up my second account to global too. Some people are still terrible. It's really weird, I don't feel like people have gotten better since like LE. There still are people with no sound, no game sense, no mic, or horse shit aim, and on the other hand some guys are really good. I guess a lot of dudes got there boosted or cheating, like this guy that was on my team the other day, didn't even finish with a positive score but got vac'd haha. Also the rank icon is ugly as hell. SMFC is so much nicer
Sorry for double posting but I just reached Gold Nova Master. After just one day! I've really been on fire lately. I guess all my hours spent practicing my AWP aim is paying off!
This ranking system is nuts. I went from ranking up to MG to MG2 in 3 wins, then after going 5-2, back down to MG, then back to MG2 after 3 games going 2-1.

Baahh.... Played really well for a time with wins where we either demolished the other team or I carried, finally hit DMG felt good about it. Immediately after I get a streak where I cant land kills (finish most games with single digits), people are not communicating, raging etc... and get demoted.. bleeeeeeehhhhh
Started off by playing with friends on european servers a month ago, got ranked at GN3. after I stopped playing with them and played on NA servers, in 2 weeks i got first promoted to MG1 and just now to MG2. This second promotion is weird, i feel like i've been playing shit the past few days, always mid/low in kills/score in the team.
A wonderfull 1v5 clutch was the perfect highlight for my rank up to eagle. Coming from Silver and no skill in the beginning of this year, I feel pretty good.
this ranking thing is a non sense, i played good yesterday all day long and got nothing from it, then today after being almost the bot fragger of the 3 games i did (despite winning), i got promoted

Well in my opinion it balances out.
I started the game innnn like July ? And I play 10 odd hours a week [ spoiler]I have played 1.6[/spoiler] and my main is DMG within 50 or so wins and I havent lost yet a game at DMG which is about 5 or 6. Part of that has been fortunate enough to get decent teams that do well enough if I get them entries or hold sites well enough over the course of a game.
Funnily enough I started playing on my friends account to play with his little brother who is about GN4 + Show Spoiler +
l(Double AK level aim stupid as fuck )
and the account hit DMG in like 20 odd wins. Its appears to be very streaky.
Btw the kids account is now MG2 and he pretty much bottom frags most of the games.
That made me realize the problem with wanting to play MM with your friends and why unranked MM is so important when people talk about it.
Makro: it's not nonsense. It's actually not based on topfragging or not. Most likely on MVP starts. And you still win points if you win a game (most of the time, how many depends on the rounds difference), so, those games you performed well might have contributed a lot towards your next rank, and the other three were just enough to actually go over the threshold and get promoted.
After being stuck in the Nova ranks for awhile I finally got AK last night. Played like shit the game that ranked me up though so didn't feel like I really deserved it >_>
I got eagle 1 ! Played myself from silver 3 (not badly ranked, that was my skill) to eagle in ~ 260 competitive games, I am still amazed about how much the game isn't changing. You just get better gradually .. its really faszinating
Went up to MG2 a couple days ago after a ton of losses and the odd win (as in I was actually worried I'd be deranked). Just deranked to MG1 again after win-loss-win.
Back to MGE after dropping to MG1 because of 20 losses in row or something. My aim is so bad right now I get more kills/round with pistols than with rifles.
Yes boys this is how you rank up. To be fair I had a little lag but not THAT much.
First half of the game goes great...then I start lagging HARD. Like...really, really, really badly. My team wins anyway despite me lagging everywhere, if anything it helped because as I was dancing about in front of one of the last two enemies in a 2v2 my ally took out the other and then came up behind the second.
And after that godawful finish to the game for me...rank up to MGE.
Pleased about the rank up. Not entirely pleased by the quality of the game leading to it, but hey a rank up is a rank up.
I don't feel like I'm playing any better when I was DMG-LEM last year but right now I'm shitting all over LEM players on my secondary account. My last 7 games are 6 wins and a tie and I have 30 to 39 kills in 6 of them with roughly a 2:1 to 3:1 KDR for each... which leaves one game where I had 23-2 against a full house of LEM's.
Just got GNM. Immediately get greeted by some serious trolls in my next 2 matches. They were purposely trying to derank I guess. Lot's of team damage in spawn and stuff.
I feel the same Kip', reaching LE and still thinking I'm like, MGE material... My aim is still shit sometimes (that guy yesterday that I HS'd in a completely random 90° flick spray is still a mystery to me).
Well I have stopped bottom fragging in most games that I play(which is a first) so thats decent, when I play in inhouses against people who are LE/LEM I feel like totally useless and lose every single possible aimduel and bottom frag.

No shit sherlock. The ranking system got changed this spring DMG now is like MG1, MG1 is like GN1. Every rank is worth 3-4 ranks less. All my SEM friends easily got MG1 after the hidden rankup change.

How so? Any backup to that claim?
It's still the result of the giant vacwave that hit a few months back, hackers tend to converge in the higher ranks. Global and SMFC pretty much lost loads of players that got vacced. As a result Lems got into global easier which means DMG get into Lem easier, etc etc.

But CS:GO uses something akin to ELO, so what's the point? In an ELO system, that you remove players close to the top doesn't mean you'll gain points faster...? And ranks are based on ranges, unless that changed (and I would like a source if you claim it has), so that's like completely irrelevant.
The only effect it could've had in my opinion, is that you faced at each rank less hackers, which means you got less defeats from that, and thus could string more easily the wins needed to rank up.

That is exactly what I was talking about. Think about it like this: There are 10 hackers in Global elite which prevent 10 people from SMFC from promoting because the hackers keep winning games against them. The 10 hackers get banned, so the 10 people from SMFC can promote. At the same time those 10 players in SMFC were preventing people from LEM from promoting. Ofcourse it isnt this clear but in the end banning hackers results in a shift.
Yeah that's basically the only thing that could influence that way (I have a hard time considering it could be this massive, but could be).
Then, I don't understand why r3d33m3r talked about a "change" in the ranking system, and would neither believe "LEM is the new DMG" without numbers backing that up, it's just a random claim. And I'm not even considering yet that it doesn't mean much to be in a rank, some are there thanks to aim, others to smartness or because they got a bit lucky and had less idiots in their teams. All of this can greatly vary between players of the same rank, so to put up such statements seems kinda random.

By those standards though, there is nothing you can say about the level of difficulty in the ladder without hard stats which are obviously not made available. I don't claim to know without the shadow of a doubt that LEM is now what DMG was about 6 months ago (or whenever the huge ban wave happened). That being said, my friend who back then was stuck between MGE and DMG ranked up to LEM and I'm SMFC on 2 accounts when I know I'm playing no better than I did in early 2015, when I was stuck around DMG myself. Hell, I'm actually significantly worse because I play literally about a tenth as much as I did back then.
It's anecdotal for me... but a lot of people are saying the same thing. You don't generally get that unless something's happening. No one on LoL's talking about how they're getting easy rank ups. I'm personally very confident that the ban wave removed enough people from the higher ranks and followed it with a barrier to entry (into matchmaking) that's substantial enough that there's fewer hackers and fewer hackers in the higher ranks, thus freeing space for decent players.
Seriously all my DMG/LE buddies and random ladder guys I added are SMFC with me now and we're just as shit as we've always been. I don't even know set smokes ffs.

There is no proof, its just a feeling most people have. I myself ranked up 2 times in 5 games after that huge vacwave, while before I was stuck on dmg-lem for a long time. Beside me pretty much everyone I played with often, ranked up really faster after the wave. It's all circumstantial evidence but it's the only explanation I have.

Finally got into LEM after like a 10 game win streak. Also as stated above I'm pretty sure its based on percentages. So if 10 players get removed from ge, 10 players don't get promoted to GE. I'm doing hw right now so i'm to lazy to do the math.

new account doing placement matches, went like 2-8 in the first 10 matches, then the last 8 wins in a row consisted multiple 16-0s and nothing more than 16-5. got a few aces in as well. felt good, but probably another losing streak soon
Realized I really sucked at aiming since I almost always lost duels and missed a lot of easy kills. Started every session with around 20m in a hs only map to improve aim, after one week I got promoted to LE Still lose most duels though

Once you have the basic sprays down then aim is more about positioning, communication and timing anyway.
so i had this game last night, we were getting pretty shrekt, down 10-5 at the half. the whole game 2 of the opponents kept bickering in all chat. this literally happened from like round 3 to the end. thought they were just jesting, but then they started team killing each other.... :S one dude got kicked and we ended up winning 16-13. felt bad for the other dudes, especially one was named bob ross and his happy trees.
Really felt like bragging about this one. We were a 5 stack plaing cache, and losing pretty hard against this Killidon guy who seemed just a tad too good with the AWP. We agree to eco second to last round but I accidentally bought anyway and ended up getting an ace. It's nothing flashy but I'm usually a passive player and even when I clutch its never an ace so I wanted to share.
I think you got me yesterday with that prefire on the highway box. Was a bit mad :<
Should make some videos out of my best plays as well. Even just as a little ego-boosting library of videos. When you feel sad/bad, just fire up one of these, remember you can do stuff, and clear you mind of bad thoughts
I've been playing for a 2 ish months now. I'm MGE, and today I got my first 16-0 win! I've had two 16-1 and I've lost with that score before too, but today was the first perfect game. I didn't play well, but I pulled my own weight, but what matters is it's one more benchmark.

122 wins in what I believe is two months. I'm a nerd!

Yeah I've had a lot of free time lately. I will not continue at this rate in the new year. I'll probably go down to a few games a day. Life always manages to get in the way of my gaming. Nuts!
Lol I forgot my R8 ace yesterday. Not that it matters, but I think those will be rare after nerf. I'm guessing I'll never get it again. But then again, it doesn't feel like it counts, when the AWPness of it only lasted a day.

Also, CSGO's MMR decay is pretty fierce.
That alone will drop you some ranks after a few months time.
really? i played enough games to get ranked at 1ak when the game came out, stopped playing for a year, played 2 game and got 1ak back and then ranked up to 2ak, and then stopped for a year, and then when i started playing 2 weeks ago i got ranked at 2ak. doesn't seem to have decayed any
I seriously question how I'm playing with some of my teammates. Literal potatoes. Can't aim, don't use grenades, and don't make calls or trades. So stupid to lose t-side Cobble 11-4.
In case someone missed the 'official' statement from Valve regarding rank changes:
"We did initiate a slow shift of the Skill Group boundaries recently, due to an increase in players and a substantial upward drift over time in the skill groups distribution. While this won’t impact the quality of your matches (you are matched based on an underlying rank value and not the visible Skill Group), many players will experience a change in their Skill Group as the distribution returns to a bell curve centered approximately at Gold Nova 4. We also shipped a recent update that will automatically monitor and maintain consistency of the players skill groups distribution. That should eliminate the need to make such disruptive boundary adjustments in the future."

The way I see it, the changes were added across the board so if you end up where you belong skill wise thats all i care about. There were alot of inflated rank with shitty games at my level where dudes were just absolute trash or way better than me.
I just want good games and being able to learn and adjust to how people play as I get better. Im not interested in grinding ranks and losing doesn't bother me at all as long as the game is good.

That's just the nature of team games. Your play isn't going to be 100% or even 80% all the time, teammates affect how well you do, maybe you're forced to play a different position than you're used to etc so there's a big variance in the performance of a player from game to game. This rank change doesn't affect the people you get in your games at all, ranks are just like big boxes around a certain mmr range and they just moved the boxes around a bit

There is a difference between having a bad game and just being bad players, its easy to tell the difference, when you are able to observe decision making and mechanics from someone who just shouldnt be at that level, its rather easy to tell.
It might be anecdotal but the last 10 or so go games I went from a huge mismatch of ranks and players in the first 5 to a very healthy consistency in the last 5 and I expect that to consistency to continue once the distribution normals out.+ Show Spoiler +
Ive only played about 10 games in 3 weeks so theres that but still
And even if it isnt, that doesnt matter, if you were a certain MMR and got deranked twice over then your MMR didnt deserve to be at that rank and shouldnt be matched up with said players thats the bottom line.
Its all about perception. GN or DMG or whatever is just as meaningful as its taken to be.
There was a large influx of players and the mmr percentages got skewed here and there. So they adjusted them. I dont see the big deal.
I've gone games bottom fragg8ng hardly being able to get a kill in one game to top fragging the next 3 in a row. There is just a lot of variance in mmr not to mention the abundance of surfs and people trying to purposefully downrank. I'm glad the derank doesn't mean I've gotten a lot worse. I just bumped from dmg back to me on my main.
Valves change to ranks literally has no bearing on the matches you get.
The underlying MMR system is the same as its always been. Only the labels(ranks) for various MMR levels have changed.
if you've ever seen the mechanics of common MMR systems, they can be prone to inflation. Better players play more and get more points. Lesser players play less. Hence over a long period of time C+ goes from being awful to actually pretty damn good.
Valve stated they are working on a dynamic rank adjustment system to the labels will automatically adjust based on the active population, rather than just setting ranks at arbitary MMR point increments.
arghhh i got demoted again this shit sucks. i really wish i had just been assigned an entirely new rank like "platinum-4" or something instead of being demoted to a previously existing rank

I only have 75hrs of cs:go on my resume and 3/4 of that time has been within the last 2 weeks. I originally started competitive gaming with cod1/cod2 so i'm an FPSer at heart. Not sure what people generally rank into initially, but at least i'm not silver... until I get demoted haha.

This is really only in your head you know. Gotta abstract that for a little while
Even better, you'll feel good when you'll get back to your original rank, but in fact you'll be better than before :D

Kinda hard to know what it's worth right now with the rank shift, but as it's been globally shifting ranks downward, and when considering how it was before, it's actually quite good. Keep it up

Already down to SME :D That's what happens when you get placed with idiots and lose 16-1, 16-5, 16-7 back to back to back lol. Oh well

No, I haven't thought of that. While I am bad at the game (bad recoil control, I don't know all the map rotations yet), i'm not an idiot. What I mean by that word, is that i've been placed with teammates that have TK'd me randomly while the bomb was down, completely trolled and weren't trying during the rounds, etc.
I have no problem with people who are equally bad at the game but give it a good faith effort, but guys who literally waste everyone's time in MM is so fucking stupid

Wow clever guy in the house. Your skill in the game has some to do with whether you get qued with idiots or not. But the game doesn't have idiocy built into the mm criteria afaik.
I personally don't mind the pixels that show my rank, I play mostly dm on dust2 as this is most fun for me. I got demoted from mg2 to gn4 and I feel this is my current skill, if I play better I will rank up, not that I want this specifically but it will happen anyway/ And maybe some of my wins were with hackers and were totally undeserved, who knows?
Haven't played that much, only wins and one or two losses as of now on 12 games, and I only went LE -> DMG for now. I'm a bit scared of playing I must admit
I like the new system, only wierd thing is there is still a huge gap, I had a funny stretch, De ranked, to DMG then Ranked back 2 games later, then deranked again after 3-4 games and now back to LE. Its super weird. Im getting team mates in my games claiming to be SMFC's that got triple deranked and stuff, Not sure about the efficacy of those claims but it does seem rather wonky. Especially when these sort of games that end up in rather stompy wins that arent that much fun and you dont really learn anything because you can just yolo around and shoot people in the face.+ Show Spoiler +
Might be down to the fact that I havent played any game after my smurf got his rank, but at the moment I rank up and derank with almost every win/loss, its hilarious :D. I literally ranked up/down 4 times in 6 games. Down, Up, Down, Up...
Soooo, my last match in june was a win and rank up to Eagle. Play today, win 16-2, get assigned as Gold Nova Master ?!! Come on I expected a derank but 5 ranks while I fucking rolled over the enemy team ??
According to the chart I was in top 25%, and now in the top 50% ? Either ELO got funny and inflated, either I really need to play more matches to have it reflect mine..

Before anything else, the latter.
The ranks also have shifted quite a bit further since when the chart was posted. Up to date data is available here: https://csgosquad.com/ranks
After the new system was implemented I lost two ranks. I went down from Gold Nova master to Gold Nova II. Today, after a few troll games and some tryhard games I got back into Gold Nova III. I'm quite satisfied with that.

Im in a funny place.. I dont play alot but like if theres a long weekend I will play like 10 games in a row. So invariablly I get my eagle back.
Then I stop playing for a couple of weeks and the first game I lose I will lose it. I think Ive ranked and deranked like 3-4 times in between LE and DMG. Makes me wonder if I should just find a 5 stack and grind another streak so Im safely in the middle of the LE pike. But then RL to stronk.
Went from MG2 to GN4 in 3 losses. Worked my way back to MGE in 1 and a half months .
Now I feel like I've hit a wall, and most of the people playing with me are ex-LEs/ and occasionally Supremes. Any advice for improvement is appreciated. I feel like movement is the biggest issue for me, but I cant figure out how to practise movement.
Edit: Also any advice to increase my map pool - I currently only play Mirage, D2, Train, Inferno and occassionally Cache. Should I create a smurf and practise unknown maps on lower levels? I have no clue about timings and callouts on maps like overpass, cbble etc.

Practice your aim religiously. Frag your way past LE's!
Alternatively, watch your own replays and figure out reoccurring problems you are having. Are you playing certain positions poorly, are you playing well but getting outshot?
For moving I actually enjoy headshot servers. Because you cant tag someone, juking and stutter stepping shooting gets drilled really hard. Or go into aim botz, throw up the barricades and practice your shooting from cover.

I personnally really don't like headshot servers. It teaches bad habits imo, where you could have gotten a kill with a good spray.
Maybe I spray too much actually, but I've gotten pretty good at controlling my spray at all distances, which is really useful because spraying is so strong in csgo compared to tapping.
had a lot of time in feb. and ranked up to DMG. yay! mostly solo queue as well. don't really feel like I have hit peak yet. one more rank should be doable, my awp aim and pistol is pretty ok, though rifle aim is sometimes totally fine and then spray of fail...
MG1 on Asia servers now. I still magically pull the Chinese/Russian/Korean/Filipino people who force buy every round, so it`s painful yet. I speak Japanese and household Tagalog, but only the Japanese people listen. In my experience, Russians speak Russia and Chinese play muted a lot.
But last night, I pseudo-IGLd for a 5stack of me, 3 American dudes in Korea, and my Japanese friend from Osaka. We ended up coming back from a 4-11 deficit to tie 15-15 and getting curb stomped by smurfs/wallers 4-16 or something, but damn if it wasn`t the most fun I`ve had in a while playing this game.
Remember kids, good teammates > good ranks every day of the week.
Felt like I was close to ranking up. Last seven games were 4 wins 2 ties and 1 loss, so I really thought if I could win just one more I'd rank up. Ofc it turned out to be a completely awful game, except for one fun thing I managed to pull off.

Similar. Was cross double AK, gave a break for some months, re-cal hsa happened, comeback SEM ez(lel?!). Slowly crawled back to good Ol' single degrading AK. Anchored here pretty hard. Hardly top frag, many many smurfs, insta HS'ed consecutive rounds against accounts with less than 50 hours and whatnot.

Finally made it in MGE post rank nerf. I was playing in G4 and MG1 up and down for a few weeks right after nerf. Then MG1 and MG2 for a while. And lately I've been steady MG2 for at least 15 games. And the last game of yesterday I got that double AK for the first time since nerf.
I am aware I'll probably rank down, but I'll keep working on the little things to get better. I'm definately the best I've ever been right now.
I finally ranked back up to MG1 after somewhat consistently playing well with my teacher 5stack. We`re all foreigners teaching in Asia, and we all enjoy winning but they don`t practice as much as I do, so I consistently end up top 2 on the scoreboard (but whatever). So I rank up and they all leave `cause they have lives and girlfriends and are in Korea so I decide to play a few games solo.
Game 1: I speak Japanese. I get paired with 3 Chinese who don`t speak at all (and force up every round) and a prepubescent Taiwanese kid who speaks English fluently. The Taiwanese kid cries and ragequits after we`re down 10-14 or something. The Chinese guys break their silence to tell him that "we want [him] to shut the fuck up". The Chinese dudes were bad too, but at least they didn`t cry about every little thing. The other team was at least 80% Japanese. Thanks, Gaben.
Game 2: Now I`m on a team of Koreans who don`t communicate at all the entire game and force buy ever round. I`m against the 3 Chinese guys from last game and, contrary to how awful they were the game before, they completely rail us.
Probably gonna never make it out of MG1 in Asia at this rate and there doesn`t seem to be much I can do about it... ;_;

I've been doing the shooting range for about a month now, but I don't feel its transfering well. What other things could I do to perfect my aim? I play really well on maps I find it easy to rely on my movement/placement, but on cbble, on CT statue, I feel I need that superior aim. I feel DM ain't doing good, it's just a zergfest. Maybe casual servers, but I feel it's not that effective due to downtime :/

Go DM in Community servers. You'll get a lot more from that than from the Valve DM. Usually no downtime, FFA (so you don't spend half the time trying to avoid your teammates to find enemies) quick respawn, any weapon you'd like whatever the side, etc.
People are usually better on these maps also, and that helps pushing you to step up your aim.
Also worth trying: aim maps (my favorite is still aim_redline), I find it helps with angles and peeking. Then, practice practice practice.
What I usually like to do: community DMs, aim maps, recoil master (search that on the Workshop, truly helps with spray patterns), training aim csgo (shooting targets in quick succession). Training aim: improves the ability to snap quickly and precisely to a target. Recoil master: improves the ability to spray Aim maps: trains your corner to corner duel capabilities Community DM: trains dueling, so aim and movements combined.

lol just got ranked up to silver elite 4 or whatever, still top 2 fragging, generally getting 18-25 kills depending on the map/team composition. It's annoying when you have a smurf on your team 50 bombing and taking all the kills

Thanks a lot. Those arena servers was very addicting and fun. A friend of mine who never stopped playing cs since 1.2, gave me a few as well. Only have like 250ish hours in go, but played cs 1.1 and a year or two into 1.6. That's like 12 years ago. About 50% of time spent in csgo have been getting my aim back up, and a lot of focus on spray. It reallly pays off when I compare to another friend of mine who are in the same spot.

This is an approximation of the current distribution of ranks (counting 1893361 players) from csqosquad.
Sadly the website only show this distribution up to three months ago. If you could have seen the November/December graphs, you'd have seen a distribution skewed towards the higher ranks, with around 60% of the players in the Nova Master -> Global Elite rank interval. And the most populated ranks were like MG2/MGE/DMG. So yeah, the correction has been pretty rough. Now the peak around Nova 2/Nova 3. That's a 4 rank downgrade for the average.
Basically, before the update that corrected the bounds for ranks, silver was basically empty. Not the case anymore.
So if you combine that and the natural MMR decay, yeah, a 6 ranks drop is quite possible. Just climb back. If you get your former rank, you'll have actually *improved*.

Its actually not such a bad deal. I just opened the game after a couple of months yesterday and I went from LE to DMG without even playing anything, it just demoted me. And honestly thats pretty fair I think. Ill probably play a few games to grind it back up and then forget about it but the bottom line is Im not really getting any better but those 2 ranks are round about my level.
Just because you are promoted doesn't necessarily mean you are ready to get to the next level yet and bouncing back and forth till your skill stabilizes isnt such a terrible deal. At the end of the day the MMR is what matters in the kind of players you play with. Not your rank.

It might be possible that I don't belong to GN2. My feelin and stats show otherwise. I made the game agree with me now aswell.
Played a couple games and now I'm right back in GN2
I don't have much time for gaming as I used to 10 years ago (glorious days of SC1 :-) ) and can't get as good as I would like. Now when I play CS:GO, I have usually time for 1 game per night. It frustrated me that I was stagnating so much on MGE level.

We need more rank up parties (do want that SMFC!)
Man I get so many pro player+ friend stacks in Supreme now. and whenever I play its roughly the same faces. And the second you see them and the profile is legit everyone on your team just gives up. I did beat Arya in 2 1 v 1 cltuches last I played on Friday. Patted myself on the back for that one.
So two weeks ago I sent my girlfriend to her parents and made a small bootcamp for myself.

Hey, just talk people into believing this is a fake. There's so many around anyway. :>
(Although people fake kennyS or ScreaM a bit more than Arya, quite possibly hehe)
YES! I finally got to LEM. It took me about a year hovering around DMG/LE (one time even back to MGE), but I'm here!
Two more ranks and I can quit the game! It took me 335 wins since I've started as GN2.
It's sucks to be progressing so slowly but I guess when the real life catches up with you after college, you can't really progress that easily (or at least I can't!).

lol I try to atleast play 2-3 games a month for that reason even though I rarely feel like it. Only decayed to LEM after I came back from my 2 month wow binge..

Very nice job Dantak!
We should team up one of these day when possible to try and catch that SMFC. o/
In my case the most difficult thing is to be consistent, and play consistently. Currently, this is not easy for me, and I can't always be consistent with aim practice and MM...
But i'm not losing hopes just because of that, it just makes it even more important to focus on being efficient and not braindead while playing the game.
I honestly think you just need to play a lot and then you'll be fine. The consistency issue is really common and to counteract that you just have to learn how to compensate like you said. Even if you don't it's still possible to climb, or at least I think so.

Oh yeah, some people only have time for a couple of games a week at best which makes climbing that much more difficult. I'm sure you have enough time if you only want to!

I can testify to this. I've played a few games with him in the past year and a half and he always carries. With 100+ ping too!!! Would pay for his service again.

I have not paid for this man, listen to his praises
I took a break from gaming at the end of this summer, came back after new years eve and now after playing rather consistently in terms of time I am SMFC. Not sure how that works out but hey, even fancier wings! :D
Still LEM, although I don't nearly try as hard as I used to and MM has become more of a casual way to spend time shooting some heads. An SMFC badge would be cool though.
96 hours and am only Master Guardian I Matchmaking system looks weird sometimes, a team of 1x5 vs full stack, and BOT terrorist with bomb is annoying trash
after quitting the game for a year, my SMFC rank has decayed to gold nova 4. in the last month, i managed to get it back to LE. only two more ranks for me
just ranked up to MG2!! took a few weeks off and have come back fragging pretty well. sometimes you just need a bit of time away from csgo it seems. also helps having good/cooperative teammates tbh
I never played CSGO .... is the MM fun to play as a solo ? i am probably going to enter the lowest rankings , is it fun to play in the trenches ? i think im going to give it a go (pun intended) this weekend ..... lets see how i roll , played a ton of 1.6 but havent played anything "real time" for a while , its been the Xcom2 and witcher 3 kind of games , i hope i won't get too upset by kids running around ruining the game with dumb yolo or even worst cheating , how is the cheating in the game ? tons of it until you get frustrated ? or its manageable ?

Honestly, if you land in silver/novas just mute other people (as soon as they show signs that they'll be annoying). Enjoy playing the game individually. If you've got a lot of experience it's gonna kick in eventually, and you should climb rather quickly.
If you cannot play in Prime mode right away, you will face more hackers though. I'd recommend not getting upset, and just making your way to Prime (I think it's experience level 21 + a phone number). Once you're in Prime, it gets way less of an issue (I currently barely face hackers at LEM level). Your mileage may vary depending on your region though.
On the topic of ranks, still stuck at LEM (I don't invest much in MM though), and I feel I play like shit in MM, even though I know from scrims we do with friends that I can do better. I still haven't figured exactly why.

Thanks for the advice , will kickstart during the weekend!
It feels like my prime matchmaking filled with whiners which asking to kick em since game start. Well at least every second game ends less then 10 players, rank double AK's (don't remember the actual name) And some players put so much effort to ruin others ppl exp by killing mates, doing shit and saying "I don't care", I can hardly imagine more toxic teamgames :D
So I am doing my placement matches on ESEA atm and I got carryed hard so far. So far that I get pitted against A-/A/A+ players (last game I played with the real KQLY) and I am DEFINITLY not on that level. Getting less than 10 frags every time and 2 or 3 RWS per game is really unsatisfying. I hope the system realizes fast that I am not on that level. I mean it is no fun for the other 9 legit A players, but it ain't fun for me either -_-. After getting smashed three times, I went to play Supreme MM and won and topfragged ... ESEA is hard :D
I played a lot of CS GO so far this year up until this month being an exception (I play League of Legends now mostly)
I had decayed down to SE but worked my way up to GN2, but I've been stuck at that rank for three years now (Ever since the rank drop down in 2015 with the ladder percentage rework, I was GNM before that)
Now I don't know if I wanna keep going at it or no.

Either way it's still fun.
Almost hit 500 hours.
Heh, I have 350 hours purely Casual. Never played a ranked game. Mostly because my kids sometimes have nightmares and then I'm the one to calm them down, so I might have to leave the game at any time.
Perhaps next time the kids are with their grandparents for 2 weeks, I'm gonna take a shot.
Almost a year since last post, lol. CS don't die on me.
I'm getting a little tired of constantly coming back and seeing my rank being reset to SE or SEM, but at the same time I can see why. Just had a game today against a full team of Gold 2 & 3's. It was actually funny cause I was scratching my head like crazy in that match and wondering wtf this silver game was, cause I kept getting 1 tapped by these damn pistol and every time one of the CT's got an AK we kept going down to 1 tap headshots with that gun too.
Then at the end (we lost 7-16 on abbey) I saw the ranks and i finally understood why. xD
Is anybody playing MM casually (with Trust factor ofc) on Europe? I used to play only alone, got to LEM, but stopped playing for a couple of months. Would be interesting to try with TL folks.
I'd be up for that, although I mostly enjoy CS when going with 4 team mates to be honest. Could try and invoke the meme master™ and some of the old gang.
