Sup dudes, Dunno, if this thread active or not but anyway.
Last few weeks, we're actively playing RTS games with friends because MOBAs are getting annoying with growing amount of competitors. Ofc, BW and WC3 are there as well. Like in good old days.
So i have few questions. We're playing 2x2 most of the time, are there any cheeky strategies which can be used on almost every map in general? Because it seems that we struggle with almost any rushes, mainly because of lack of transitioning after initial attacks.
Also, is every 2x2 comp potent or probably there are some situational picks which suck against almost everything but something?
Admittedly, it is not as active as I would wish. Mostly because I am working like crazy, doing other things, and also because I am preparing my return to the homeland. Nonetheless, we still have forum activity every week, and players do get together to play, and I still answer questions when I can.
About 2v2, I'd say certain mass strategies work really well. UD/NE with POTM/Huntresses and DK/Fiends was always pretty damn strong, especially on Avalanche. On other maps, it fared alright too.
There are definitely some race combos that are better than others. UD/NE is widely considered to be one of the best, along with Orc/NE I'd say. Mostly because UD/NE units have good synergy (the POTM aura on Fiends is a killer), and because Orc/NE can harass to no end with BM/DH. It goes deeper though.
Some other combos are good, Orc/HU is alright, and so is HU/NE. UD typically doesn't work all that well unless it's with a NE, or another UD. UD/Orc is lackluster, and HU/UD is pretty bad, even if it has insane nuking potential.
Popular strategies in 2v2 include UD/NE, with the NE going POTM or KOTG along with mass Huntresses, and feeding the UD with extra gold to go for a faster T3 and Destroyers. On certain maps, it's very hard to deal with, and it's generally quite potent I'd say. I'm not too knowledgeable about 2v2 otherwise. As a Human player, I didn't play too much of it, because Humans tend to get heavily focused in 2v2s. It's awful!

Thanks, dude <3 Hope return will be smooth and homeland will be kind to you.
Thing is, that we're playing random races. When we got UD/NE as we planned with going potm/archers/nyx/cryptfiends, we just got rolled by double orc grunt/wyvern/cows/double BM comp. Guess, we lost tons more, even to double UD double Nyx/banshees. And to NE/Human KotG/Paladin comp as well, it was awful, being raped having double UD necros/fiends/banshees.
But we won with double humans :D But it was 6 player map without tons of loot on it. I just remember back in the days, guys like Grubby were proxying markets closer to enemy's base but i assume, it's not general strategy and just was planned because of map.
I think Coil/Nova is far too strong in 2v2 not to go for DK/Lich as an Undead. Also, if you're going to mass with UD/NE as NE, you might as well go Huntress, as they are far more resistant.
Double UD is actually good, there's no shame in losing to it. For a long while, Lucifer and Susiria played as the 2v2 of MYM in WC3L, and they both played UD. Double coil and Ghouls/Fiends complete each other very well.
Double Human is weaker though. It's generally harder to fast expand in 2v2, because you're likely to suffer from a dual pressure. It depends on the map though. A 2v2 on LT would promote fast expanding, no matter what the races are. I'm sure you can find 2v2 replays on Replayers.com! You should find some inspiration there.
About the Grubby thing, he did it in solo too. It's pretty useful when you're harassing to have your shop nearby, but you shouldn't do it every single game. And it's also better to start with the basics before moving on to more complex moves. In any case, 2v2 in WC3 is actually tons of fun, and was a perfectly viable competitive format, unlike in SC2. It has plenty of strategy and little non sense, so you should enjoy it and climb the AT ladders with your buddy!
me and my brother played Hu and Orc and were around level 30. our tac was to rush any NE, if theres none then rush the Human, else creep. Ne often start their buildings late (easy win) and are generally the easiest to rush imo. Hu/Orc combo is nice with rifle caster AM MK coupled with Grunts Raiders Kodo BM SH. we never let the games last too long, and the tac is very easy to use. In 2v2 its important to time TPs right (Teamspeak!) and engaging well.
hardest Combos to play against were Ud/Orc and Orc/Orc. I think we beat 80% of Teams with NE in them
Just played an epic FFA. Went BM SH w/ caster + wind rider. Tried to expand early but was shut down by water elementals. Tried to expand again but lost almost entire army to gargoyles. Played most of the game on 1 base vs mostly 2-base opponents and some 4-5 base opponents. Managed to get two claws +15 on BM, but couldn't really do anything because a human with 5 base, 100 food army nearby. For most of the game, I just used BM to harass workers and snipe lone units. Finally, it's a battle between me (managed to expand once), now 6-base human, and 6-base orc. While human and orc harass each other, I just snipe random units in battle for exp and/or workers.
Eventually, the human in clearly winning, so I only snipe the humans units. Human realizes this and he starts attack the only mining base that I have left. I have ~50 towers so it takes him a long time/cost a lot of army to attack, and the other orc player saves me. Human tries to run away but 300 critical strike kills his paladin before divine shield or TP so he loses his entire army and quits. Finally, it is me with one mining base against this orc who has pretty much half the map. I can't fight his army, so I harass his expansions with BM and batriders, and he wastes so much money on TPs and peons. Finally, I am able to amass a decent amount of casters and wind riders, and we fight. I win the first exchange, but he just TPs before I kill any of his heroes. Second exchange is close, but he now has big bad voodoo and all my units get bugged out since he cast it in the middle of a fight. I manage to throw a few more 300 crits on the SH, but eventually, he win. so sad...

It's easier to use a version switcher and play on the old version.
hey guys. I just started playing some RT 2v2 on arena. problem is that I get smacked almost every time. so battle.net is too easy, but very fustrating when you get an ally who never played before. and arena is too hard. anyone wants to join up for some AT games? give some tips? doesnt matter if its bnet or arena

If I remember right you can get now the game for about 10$ on www.directgamekeys.com. They'll send you a key to register on your bnet account and download the game.

Okay now I have been officially motivated to hunt down a tft CD that I do not have to pay for, I will update
It greatly saddens me that you refuse to buy TFT. Really, it's $20
I would even buy it for you, not even kidding. IT'S THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

If you've got a battle.net account, you could just install the game from there. At least that's what I did when I lost my CDs. And yes agree, GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME OMGOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMG!!!
