So today I decided to finally begin killing people (as in seeking them out). Started sniping in high-pop servers in major cities and it is pretty fun (although incredibly stressful). With the audio bug, I end up panicking each time I hear something even though I randomly hear drinking, food, or zombies.
I tried the mosin (with a damaged long-range scope) and managed to get a couple of kills. Still tough getting accustomed to zeroing in on peoples distance. Another difficulty I noticed is how the bullet flies to the left so over distances, you sort of have to aim to the right of the person (that occurs even with a pristine scope). Although stressful, still an enjoyable experience when after all the planning, you see the person fall over and die.
On the complaint side; I had a full kitted person, tons of ammo, everything pristine, was going to have some fun and end up being beaten to death by someone with just his fist. Because of the clunkiness of pulling out weapon or swapping, I could not do anything until unconscious. So hoping the eventual large patch coming fixes this... or makes it a bit better.

Did they "fix" (not sure if it was intended or not) the resapwn of items? Or do they still only spawn after der server is started?
|
^ not yet, they seem to still have lots of problems with server performance. And Nilrem yeah I think the bullets pulling left or right is to simulate wind? Sniping in this game is pretty fun and not that easy. I wish they would fix the 3d sound, it is as awful as in the mod, sometimes you just can't tell where people are shooting from..

I do not think it was an intended addition to the long-range scope. I used the PU scope at over 500 meters and it did not have the same issue (that I noticed). At least from what I saw online, it looks like the general consensus is that it is a bug (an annoying one at that).
But yeah, the sound is pretty horrible. I do not even bother wearing my headset until things are fixed.
Edit: logged in and all gear gone... sighhhhhhhhh.

change server. Some servers, like the experimental ones, have characters bound to that server only. So you start anew when you join, but use your old when you change to another again.

Nope, did not work. it is a known bug that occurs due to the servers and on occasion, changing servers. In some cases, if someone leaves the game alone, they get their gear back after a few hours.
I did see a server that peeked my interest. It was a server that had like 14/99 so quite interesting to see one raise the cap. But I do not think it is a good idea atm; servers have a hard enough time with 40 people (the cause of rubber banding) and having that many, until the game is better setup, would be insane.

Yeah, actually I just had the gear reset happen to me when joining over to a server a friend was on, where he spawned like normal. I relogged back to the server I was just on, spawned with all my gear again, and then it was fine switching back over to my friend's server.

Does any one know how extra maps will work? Will it be totally open like the mod or will they slowly add maps to the game?
|
So a friend and I were in the Balota airfield, inside the building next to the warehouses with the prison cell. We then heard someone speaking over the local coms and after a couple of shots went off we bunkered down. Then about 5 minutes later both me and my friend die instantly. We were on the ground floor but weren't in view of the window in the cell. Was this guy hacking or just extremely lucky/skilled to have instantly killed both of us while shooting through the walls / door?

Could have easily been lag issues? I died in balota to a similar problem, didn't even see/hear the guy shoot.

Hmm if I am going to play alone 99% of the time, which survival MMO should I go for? Dayz or Rust?

You could also check State of Decay which is a solo game of zombie survival. Heard it was nice.

You should try warz..pwhaahaha..Really don't
I'm in love with dayz atm, but do realize its still missing a ton of its features. I'm not sure I would enjoy it as much if I wasn't always playing with other people.

Bought the game yesterday and played it for like half an hour. It was honestly pretty boring. This was my experience:
Joined a server with ~15 guys online, thought I'd pick one where there is some activity, but not too much. Spawned in a random location and had no idea where I was. I really liked this because exploring is fun and finding stuff for yourself is also enjoyable. Started running around, found a small city reasonably fast. Saw like 2 zombies along the way and was quite disappointed that there were so few of them. Found a well and was quite happy that I didn't die of thirst in my first attempt . Found a crowbar and thought I was ready to kick some zombie ass. The first zombie I encountered died with one hit. It fell and disappeared into a wall. The second one crashed through a staircase and fell into nothingness or something lol. I felt quite powerful haha. The third one did not bug out. I realised at that moment, that a crowbar is apparently not very good at killing zombies. I started bleeding and ran away. I bandaged myself (found that along the way somewhere) and after like 3 minutes of running I finally got rid of the zombie haha. Figured I needed a better weapon to engage zombies so I kept exploring. Ran around for ~15 minutes and found very little. Some clothing, some ammunition (no gun though), nothing really useful. Avoided the few zombies that I saw.
It was honestly pretty boring, the world felt really, really empty. I didn't encounter any other players in 30 minutes and zombies don't seem to be a huge threat. Eventhough I couldn't properly expose of them, there are so fewof them and you can just run away. The biggest problem seems to be not to die of hunger/thirst.
I recognize that it is still an Alpha and know that things are gonna get patched, but for right now there doesn't seem thaaat much to do. Maybe I should have just kept playing and explored some more...
If you guys have any tipps to make the game more fun/enjoyable, I'd love to hear them

Imo Dayz kind of sucks if you play alone, (especially right now with so little implemented.) There aren't really any goals you can work towards, or big objectives you can realistically do alone (like trying to get a car fixed and saved somewhere,) and you'll constantly be having to avoid groups of players who are basically impossible to take on alone unless they really suck. You could always just meet people in game to play with, but that doesn't really count as playing alone i suppose.
In it's current state, the things you can do alone are basically go find a gun, then sit in the woods grabbing food/water from small houses whenever possible. Unless you're on an empty server all the towns will have groups of friends in them already.
Never tried Rust though~

There were a lot more zombies in the mod, not sure if thats just a bug or if they've decided to make fewer of them in the SA. But the main thing I find fun about the game is getting together with friends, all getting geared up, then going onto a busy server and trying to take control of one of the towns (and inevitably having to take on another group of players trying to do the same thing.)
In it's current state the zombies aren't really strong enough that just surviving is any kind of challenge, so if you want to feel like you're actually in danger then you really have to go near the big towns so as to have a chance of actually meeting someone.

This is the reaction most of my friends had when I told them to try it. And they found it immensely more enjoyable when playing with someone. You should try that (I think there's somekind of TL group as well you could try out)

It's a server issue. Right now zombies and loot only spawn on server restart, and the zombies are kinda bugged (runs through walls, objects, staircases etc). After implementing dynamic spawning, which should be any day now, I believe the plan was to 10x the amount of zombies on the map as well as up the amount of people on a single server drastically.
Right now the challenge is indeed surviving the thirst and hunger at the start, finding gear, and along the way surviving other players. Zombies are no threat once you find your first weapon.

Damn some bugs are really starting to annoy me. The fucking one that will make your bullet hit the ground under your rifle randomly when you fire from a hill or prone is so awful. The teleport at your spawn point when you sprint on a crowded server is pretty terrible too.. And also almost every server with above 20 people on seem to lagg terribly... Weapons spraying/Accuracy patterns don't make much sense either, when you shoot at something 50m away with a red dot sight on a m4 you're supposed to hit o/ There hasn't been any patches for a little while, I hope the next ones will fix some major issues. As much as I love dayz the SA is terribly frustrating right now.. There are too many situations where you'll die just because you're lagging or the server is lagging or your fucking rifle shoots into an invisible wall in front of you. Add to this the fuckers that will combatlog as soon as they are spotted or hit, and the ones that will log out as soon as they see you so log back in in your back having moved on another server... I don't know shit about programming or networking but it doesn't seem normal to me that after one year of supposedly focusing on server performance, they still can't have respawning loot and okay server perfs. There are lots of MMOs that work fine, or FPS with large servers (BF etc)... Anyway, they warned about how much it was gonna suck if you bought the alpha, but it's still frustrating to deal with bugs that didn't even exist in the mod and don't make much sense, especially when you love the game and really want to play it
