Welcome to the third season of the Teamliquid Blood Bowl Cup. Please read this whole post if you want to apply.
Format:
Groupstage 1: 24 Players in 4 Groups. Top 5 of each group advance.
Groupstage 2: 20 Players in 4 Groups. Top 4 of each group advance.
Playoffs: 16 Players BO1 Bracket.
Application:
1. Everbody in posession of Cyanides BB game. (Chaos or Legendary Edition) can apply. 2. Application is possible till season two ends (about 4 Weeks from now) 3. Only new teams with at least 11 Players can apply. 4. Apply your team in the game and send my a pm with: Your TL Nickname - Your Blood Bowl Nickname – What Team you play – Your time Zone 5. Try to keep the league varied. The more different teams the League has, the better. (To all guys who complained about to many bashy teams in Group 1 Season II: apply an agi-Team :D )
Name of the league ingame: Liquibowl Season III Password: teamliquid
Playing in the League: 1. Every round will last a week . So lots of time to schedule a match and play it. Try to play your games before the last evening. If anything goes wrong i cant do anything if there is no time left. 2. First thing you do every round is sending a pn here in teamliquid to your next opponent, try to do this on the first day of every round! Full calender will be ingame on the League screen and I will provide a list with all nicknames (teamliquid and bloodbowl). 4. If there is any problem with the scheduling, one player doesnt answer or show up, or if there is a problem with the game itself write me a pm. 5. Don't use this tread to schedule games or telling me that your opponent didnt show up -> pm please. 6. If a player disconnects, the other player can choose if he wants a regame or a defwin. (you most likely have to pn me if you want the regame, so i can reset the game) 7. If no game is played at the end of the round I will give a defwin (if one player doesnt show up for example) or a draw. But to decide this i need information. So pn me (you can see a pattern here :D ) 8. I will validate matches regularly and appoint some commissioners to. I will not ask anyone if he has already played his games or help with scheduling this time around. Dont have the time. 9. This thing will last up to 12 weeks or more. So if you apply be shure you can play that long. 10. After every group stage i will manually seed you in the next one. and you have to apply for this. the faster everbody applies again, the faster Second group stage and playoffs can start. 11. Most important: Have fun with it.
There is a skype group for this. Send me you skype id with your application pm and i will add you.
I don't think I quite understand the format of the tournament. What's the purpose of having two group stages? Seems odd to play 5 games just to kick a single player out, then play another four to kick another one out.

the reason behind this is that players dropped out in season 1 and 2. and will most likely drop out in season 3. and for some reason its alway the ones doing badly^^
imo bashy teams are less of a problem in a league with a fixed amount of games. the actually have to win games, just beating their opponent to pulp is not enough. also not a lot of clawpomb at low tv
and so far, the applied teams are really balanced and varied.
I would sign up but after playing against the AI again a few times, i think my luck is not up to par.
I thought GFI should succeed 83.3% of the time, not fail 83.3% of the time. And my block dice appear to have 3 sides attacker down and 3 sides push. I don't even cause any injuries or even K/Os all game long with Claw, Mighty Blow and Piling On.
Maybe once Nuffle is on my side again i'll join the fun
Because thats a common missconception of new players :D If you are contantly unlucky I'm 99% sure your are takeing unnecessary risks. Or that you make avoidable mistakes.
I know that because i heard the same excuse frome every new player, including myself. Risky-management is the marco of bloodbowl
Of course there are unlucky games. But if you are constantly unlucky you are doing something wrong. Just skip the singleplayer and play lots of matches online usually helps, also there are some guides around.

I have 80 hours in the game and i'm not taking more risks than neccessary. I went 4-1 in multiplayer a while ago but then i had a game where 4 of my players died in one game and since then every game my 1/36 chances turn into 35/36 chances. I guess i must have angered Nuffle somehow back then.
I get the "Double attacker down on first block rerolled into double attacker down with a successful injury roll into death and an apothecary reroll into more death" every 2-3 games.

You are taking more risks than necessary! Everybody is. Thats like saying "I'm macroing perfectly", after 80 hours of singleplayer and 5 games online in sc2 :D
just join the league with orks and you will be fine
would like to join but ill miss 4 or 5 weeks because of my holiday, so maybe next season... unless i can be guarenteed last place in the first groupstage, but i guess that wouldnt be fair

Well, if you're playing against "HARD" AI, that one cheats like crazy, i had ridiculous games were snotlings were tougher than sauruses! Playing against the strongest ai is kinda pointless because he's kinda stupid but tries to balance that with odd manipulation (cheating); even the "normal" level ai cheats, although very little (especially when compared to hard ai that is just unfair).
Apart from that, what Snotling said obviously stands, i lost a game yesterday after 2 stupid mistakes and a string of unlucky rolls, but i couldn't blame the system because had i not made those mistakes, those rolls would've been avoided and thus couldn't have failed >.<

Your last line is the most important. It's easy to have fun, even if the dice gods hate you. And they don't even hate ME, I'm just god awful at the game. I still play it, because it's fun

I'd be careful with such statements. I'm playing a halfling team after all...
Just to make sure you understand what that means: Halflings have MA 5, ST 2, AG 3 and AV 6 and their biggest ability is that they are Stunty, which also means they get hurt even easier. I'm a SPP bag.
All my hope is in LeafJaeDong and BisuBeard who will most likely get rooted on turn 1 anyways.
I predict a zero wins and a full team of mercenaries at the end of my league participation.
And the first kill of the season goes to: Treeman LeafJaeDong of the team "Hobbits Esports Inc." Yes, a halfling team got the first kill (no, not the first death) which is... unlikely to say the least.
So proud of my boys. No matter how crazy the moves i asked of them were, they executed them flawlessly. The turn 8 ball denial by shoving a beastman out of the pitch using 2 red dice in the middle of half the enemy team was a thing of beauty. It still was a lot more luck than skill, especially considering the misclick of Snotling that probably cost him the game, but, well, a draw is a draw.
Currently rendering the recorded game and i might have it uploaded tomorrow.
EDIT: Video with my german commentary is uploading and will be up in about 2 hours 30 minutes from the edit of this post, i.e. at ~6:00 KST. I'm going to bed now since i can't play anything while a video is uploading anyways.

Yea, was a fun game, and the dead beastman got the MVP :D Nuffle be praised!!!
I really need a new mouse. after 7 years my deathadder is gettig worse by the day. (tbh i could still avoid those by being more carefull)
well... i met my quota of winning a game this season... but I kinda felt bad because I was getting every single roll and intoTheWannaBe was definitely not :-(. At least there we no deaths for both parties thankfully! Props to Into for being so mannered in the face of such one-sided luck.
Week one will take a few days longer, because i have to switch some players and figure out stuff, from week two on it will be strictly...well....a week...
Two games, two goblins dead. This time it was a goblin with 3SPP!!!!
And my losings were only 20k, so I can't even replace him, and won't get a mercenary because I have 13 players (3 Secret Weapons!)
I did however learn that Throw Player is a thing. Also finishing my first turn of a game seeing about 6 Saurus on their arse is funny too. Also, LOSING EVERY GAME.
Goblins started with all secret weapons on the field, knocking down all (?) my Saurii in the first turn. Second turn a Saurus caught a bomb, threw it at the Troll/Gobbo/Troll line, Troll intercepted it and chucked it back at the Saurus. At the same time the greenskins failed to pick up the ball 3 times in a row.

YEah, my trolls and your Saurus were better ball handlers than my 6SP gobbo hanging out alone by himself running along completely failing to pick up a ball :D
It's actually my first game of the season. Which of my players will get the SPP? If you're in my division you can use this for advance scouting on two of your opponents!
Livestream is kind of experimental, though. Dunno how good it'll turn out. Just warning you in advance.

And he was even rooted.
At least LeafJaeDong almost got a second kill if you hadn't gotten your Apothecary in time. JD is a real killer. I also was ridiculously lucky with my injury rolls. All 6 or 7 injuries only "Badly Hurt".

Outbashed by HOBBITS!
Yeah, it was quite the wierd match. At one point you had just one Ogre standing while my whole team was on their feet. My halflings even pushed one of your ogres out of the pitch. It's not a sight you see every day.
Silver lining for you is that you killed my SPP 5 Halfling
Turn 0: Chaos Dwarves get a blitz, manage to have someone under the ball and a cage setup before the ball even lands Turn 1: Trolls 2 dice block vs a chaos dwarf gets him knocked down, turnover Turn 2: Bombadier throws, Chaos Dwarf catches, throws back, knocks out a goblin. Turn 3: bombardier throws, Chaos Dwarf catches, throws back, Chainsaw gobbo catches, tries to throw back, blows up.
Fanatic has spent this whole time spinning circles around people never hitting him.

That was a fun match. I got completely trashed but i managed to successfully throw a halfling for a 2 red dice block, knocking the vampire ball carrier down. Completely worth it

Edit. reread OP and looks like CE would be fine. Even if it's not I'll buy anyway because it looks like it could be fun.
CE is the most recent version, so now is the best time to pick it up.
Either way, the older versions are multiplayer compatible with the new version, you just can't play the new races yourself, you can still play against them, so if you have the LE already there is no need to pick up the CE.
First half: Lizards kick, humans run the ball back, lizards manage to get a screen up between the thrower and the LoS. After some back and forth the humans pull off an elf play and score. The Lizards receive and go for a 2ttd sideline cage, but the Skinks fails to pick up the ball. Humans lock down the cage, but the Lizards counter with their own elf play for the tie.
Second half: Lizards try to grind out the half, but first lose 2 Sauri to blocks and another one to a surf. A slugfest for the ball ensues. Eventually the humans pick it up and run away, only to be stopped from scoring by two skinks.
Result: 1-1
I'm repeatedly getting reminded that starting without a Krox is a bad idea. Sadly I rolled a 1 on all my winnings so getting one will take a bit longer...
Yeah GG. To win with Human you absolutely have to make those 1/9 rolls (pick up, pass, receive, dodge) I have failed too many of these. All in all, a good result for me. Could have been much worse.
Artosis needs to make a show about Gutter Runners, those things are seriously annoying.
Ah, well, going down 0-2 as Halfling against Skaven isn't too bad, i guess. I even could have scored once if i hadn't decided to do some blocking first and then had to waste the reroll on a both down/attacker down, which made me fail the 4+ pick-up the same turn. The ball ended on his touchdown line and when it was his turn, he got it all the way over to my touchdown line in one turn thanks to the MA9 power of gutter runners.
Ah, well, gg wp, at least i didn't lose a halfling and one of my treemen got the by now obligatory death roll on one of his players in the last turn.
Well well well... I thought my luck from last week (losing a dwarf to a gutter runner 1d) couldn't get any worse... Boy was I wrong! The random event to start the game was the fans throwing rocks at a random one of my players. They target my minotaur, knock him over and induce a death roll.... My initial WTF reaction is doubled as my apothecary re-rolls a death.
I lose a dwarf on turn 5 after already being down several players... and call GG. It appears my insane good luck for the first two games has swung in the complete opposite direction...
Sorry you guys but to avoid further losses, I'm giving lots of saurus SPP. Hopefully my season isn't over... but I fear it just might be. Oh well, that's BB!
EDIT: it was hilarious watching saurus trying and failing to pick up the ball on the 5yd line for 4 turns.

Wow, i think i haven't seen so many defender downs in a single game... and they were all from stormtemplars chaos dwarf team that didn't even need those to get my dodge halflings down thanks to tackle and block. Ah well, at least i managed an epic final move turning the 0-2 into a 1-2 in the last turn.
I seriously see no way to beat chaos dwarfs as halfling without a huge amount of luck.

Thats why I don't like those teams. Anything that discourages people from playing Halflings or Goblins is bad.
EDIT: It should also be mentioned that since Knockdowns aren't shown on there, there were very few guys left on the pitch at the end. Think it was 4 Norse dudes and my 2 Trolls left on the field at the final whistle :D
Today was a particularly fun match with Mav! He played very well and I enjoyed watching his play.
The real story is that I believe I may have set a record in this game. I went back over the replay to discover that I failed to pick up the ball a total of exactly 12 times in this game. 6 of those were turn ending AG3 pickups (not counting the scoot that happens after) that burned through a total of 5 RRs.
Snot, is there any sort of ceremony, dance, or sacrifice I can perform to Nuffle? After this game and minotaur rock snipe, it's obvious I have angered him and need to make amends.
Yes it was a good game vs Kronen's Chaos Dwarves. Tough luck with the rain, but I admit it was particularly enjoyable to see three hobo loners failing to pick up the ball over and over :D
So I finish the groupstage 5-2-0 with only 1 TD conceded. Pretty good especially knowing one of the draws was a game not played. I am not too concerned about finishing "only" second because I think Dralin is at least as good as SmackDave, anyway one has to beat everybody to win eventually, the order doesn't matter :p

You could try liking him on facebook or burn a few dice. However, depending on your luck, Nuffle might dislike either gesture and curse you even more.
What is up with BTMX_Raven, all his games appear to have been walkovers. Should i even bother waiting for a reply?

Too bad, it was probably my last game of the season.
I trust you ^^ On offense make a good cage and don't take any risk. On defense put 2 guys on each gutter runner to: 1. Kill some of his guys hopefully 2. Force him to score fast.
Basically Skaven can score whenever they want, you have to control the tempo of the game somehow.
Classic bb game: I receive first half, I fail to score then he proceeds to demolish my team and scores on the last turn. 4 KO 1 hurt 1 dead in the first half, only 1KO wakes up. Second half I kick well, but took many risks to try to get back in the game. The second half is a one way game.
Ah well, I 'll be back, stronger better and meaner lol.
2-1 victory over Dralin's Skaven, and boy did he not make that easy.
With one turn left on the clock after my 2nd touchdown Dralin needed to tie the game with no 1 turn touch downers on his team. He masterfully set up a chain of pushes to push his gutter runner 2 spaces towards my end zone. With no Rerolls left his brave gutter runner needs to dodge right past a vampire, (all three tackle zones mind) and make 2 go for it rolls to score.
The Gutter Runner Promptly makes almsot all the rolls, only to trip over the end line to bring the game to a close.

Any of you who arent in Skype and are interested in meaningless statistis, heres a spreadsheet of regular season rankings in Offence Yards, Defensive Yards given up, and Yards Difference.
Highlight, Halflings 9th out of 15 in Offensive yards. Badass.
The Norse kick and the Lizards are off to a strong start, causing two casualties (BH and KO) in the first turn. They transition into a smooth grind down the pitch until turn 6 when the Yhetee killed the Krox, which got apo'ed into a -ST. That's when the Lizards decide to abandon the grind and move in for the score. While they're setting up the Norse manage to kill yet another player, this time a Saurus. The Lizardmen retaliate by killing a dude via crowdsurfing, which got apo'ed into a BH before scoring 1-0.
This left the Norse, who had a spare player, with 11 men vs the Lizardmen's 9 for the second drive. Obviously the Norse wanted to start their own grind so they could tie and win in overtime. The kick was very deep, however, preventing the Norse from caging up immediately and letting the Lizards put pressure on the ball with some players, while some valiant few got beaten up on the LoS. Their initiative payed off after the Norse ball carrier got marked by two Skinks and failed his dodge, resulting in a Skink touchdown for the 2-0.
In a fit of rage the Norse players went into a frenzy trying to murder the Lizards before time ran out. They failed, the Lizards advance, dead Krox gets MVP, everything is back to normal.

A frontline player getting a -ST always makes me say "I'm sorry, son, the apothecary couldn't do anything for you. You are dead." and go with the "dead" result instead. Better put them out of their misery fast.

That's what I did. He'd still be a ST4 player, but I'd rather not bloat my TV with that.
Semifinals between Scamps Skaven and my Lizardmen:
The Skaven were missing one gunner and a linerat and have lost a few players over the season from what I hear. The Lizardmen were down a Krox.
First half:
Skaven decide to receive. Lizards did their best to disrupt them and threaten the ball, but of course they scored anyway leaving the lizards 6 turns to score. In the coming drive the Lizardmen cage up and take their time moving up the pitch. Of course the Skaven were content with a screening defense. Despite thee Rat Ogre taking a nap on the sidelines it was successful and the half concluded 1-0 for the Skaven.
Second half:
The Lizardmen learned from their mistakes of last drive and changed strategies, sacrificing the safety of the cage to mark more opposing players and thus advance the ball more swiftly. In an interview after the game the Skaven coach admitted he, too, was willing to take more risks, leaving his players marked to use opportunities at attacking the ball carrier. As always, when a coach decides to take a risk Nuffle heeds his call and it quickly went downhill for the rats. The Lizardmen manage to K.O. half a dozen rats and injure some more, and score almost unopposed with two turns left for the 1-1.
By this time the Skaven were down to two gunners however, so scoring quickly would be a problem. They did not get a chance to try, though. In a stroke of good luck the lizards wipe 3 players off the pitch in one turn. Left against 4 or so rats they quickly take over and score 1-2 in turn 19.
The Skaven have two turns left to tie, which would leave the lizards with another drive of their own. Fortunately they managed all 6 or 7 of their K.O. rolls and were able to field a proper team for this last drive. They only managed to get one Gunner into scoring range. He promptly got blitzed and stunned and the game ended 1-2.
Scamp outplayed me by a ton here. I made a lot of mistakes this game but lucked out in the 2nd half by injuring so many players, which let me come back. Some bad rolls for the Skaven sealed the deal. If this wasn't Bloodbowl I'd say I didn't deserve this win. gg wp Scamp.
Bench-Scale Testing, Lizardmen (myself) vs. Beat Down!, Chaos Dwarves (Stormtemplar)
Going into the game I was quite scared. Stormtemplar has developed a really scary Minotaur with Block, Break Tackle and Guard which would be guaranteed to cause havoc among my Sauri. In addition I could not acquire enough money to replace my dead Kroxigor, so I had nothing to really stop the Minotaur. He also had two Guard Blockers and two Bull Centaurs. This meant I was guaranteed to be smashed in melee. Fortunately I had two guys with Block/Break Tackle and 2 Skinks with +AG/Side Step so I was hoping to use my mobility to my advantage.
First half:
The Lizardmen win the toss and decide to kick. The kick-off is interrupted by fans throwing rocks at both the Minotaur and a Skink resulting in a stun and K.O. respectively. After a deep kick the Chaos Dwarves are forced to send some players to the back, which Bench-Scale Testing try to exploit by moving up between the LoS and the ball. Beat Down! manage to break through the screen and form a rudimentary cage while also killing a Saurus (which got apothed into badly hurt). The cage proves unsafe and opens it up for a blitz on the ball-carrying Hobgoblin, knocking loose the ball. In the resulting scramble to pick it up the lizards manage to come up on top and run the ball out of reach. While stalling they also manage to kill a Chaos Dwarf Blocker, which the apo did not manage to save. The next turn they have to give in under pressure from Beat Down! and score on turn 4.
During their second drive the dwarves manage to break armor on all 3 Sauri which were placed on the LoS, stunning two of them and knocking out another. Bench-Scale Testing counters with a screening defense to prevent the offense from advancing. In an attempt to break the screen the Chaos Dwarves send their Minotaur to Blitz through it, the first block results in a push, which makes the cow fail its GFI and badly hurt itself. With no apo they had now lost their most important player and the drive ended without a touchdown.
Second half:
With an 1-0 edge and no Minotaur to oppose them the Lizardmen started their half with a clear advantage, although they were still down a Saurus from a K.O. A high kick lets them get into position right away. After an early attempt by the dwarves to assault the ball carrier in his own half with the centaurs Bench-Scale Testing manage to speed past Beat Down! and secure the ball deep in the oppositions' half. Caught off-guard by the swift attack the now spread out Chaos Dwarves quickly lose morale as they struggle to threaten the ball and suffer an injury to a Bull Centaur at the claws of a Saurus. By turn 14 the dwarves had conceded and the game ended with a 2-0 on turn 16.
GG to stormtemplar and everyone else, thanks to Snotling for organising the league and doing a great job!
