"With reason".
Like I said earlier they've created a huge mess which will cost them a lot. I have a hard time believing they can be that bad at PR. Feels unprecedented and unprepared.
I mean, they try to put out a controversial feature but have nothing to fight the controversy... wtf.

I don't think it's a fail in PR. It's them looking at their contracts and documents and trying to reverse and fix whatever they can without getting into lawsuits. It's like bringing a fire extinguisher to a forest fire.

I would not quite agree--Microsoft has really dropped the ball in the PR department. We have the issue with Twitter and Microsoft employees giving mixed signals about their policies (such as the banning one), then we have the snails pace of actually explaining the policies to begin with (how even after E3, it was still confusing). And finally we had comments from Don Mattrick where he blurted out a response that in today's world is a PR nightmare.

Moar ps4 games. Sorry, had to. Was too easy. Irrc there are less PS4 games on release then xboxOne Games because xboxOne has more exclusives.

True, but that's partially because Sony is still releasing exclusive games for the PS3, while there is zero on X360.

Major Nelson
I don’t think,… I mean we’re really not going to change anything we’ve done with Xbox One. We’re very happy,… did you see the games on stage during our briefing? Did you see the exclusives? I mean we’re really really proud of the system and the games that are coming out. When you look at games like TitanFall,… have you gone through Titanfall yet? Enough said. Conversation over. We’re really happy with what we showed on stage as well as what we’re showing here in the booth so I think it is uh,… it’s safe to say that we’re confident where we’re going. We’re also confident that gamers are going to love our vision of the future and what we’re going to offer for gaming
Good, I want to see Microsoft follow through with their plan until the bitter end. Go down with the ship MS. You won't be missed.

Lol Microsoft gaming sector is really large and is in strong finsical standing they can take risks, Reason why ps4 is so expected in every facet and playing it safe is because Sony is in trouble like actual trouble it's sister companies and sony usa all have problems financially which is why ps4 is a low risk console nothing really striking or out of the box thinking just what most people said they might like. And it wouldn't be hard for microsoft to renege on things like drm etc although they might burn a few publisher agreements they can very easily push though software to change any of the more controversial aspects of xboxOne. They wont especially on release same with price, but if ps4 is solidly beating them after 3 months you can expect changes like price drops etc. Both machines atm are likely being sold at a small profit like 20-50 bucks meaning they both can drop their prices but probably wont. Especially sony due to their finical standings they can't win if they are selling at a consoles at a loss.

Once their sales disappointed, then they will maybe changed their policy. But till then Sony is on the driving seat.
I like how you take a subtle jab at PS4 saying about nothing really striking or out of the box. But sorry to say in terms of spec and performance. PS4 is better than XBONE.

PS4 is better than XBONE. yeah but that doesn't really matter outside of exclusives. Ports are ports most games will be designed around xboxOne with small considerations to the PS4 being more capable in the end the visual standpoint will be about the same. For alot of games larger titles will be better ported but graphics unless drastically different don't tend to matter.
People don't miss what they never had, it's like physx or other partial effects in games. People who played games like mirrors edge, borderlands 2 or the batman games with it on can't stand to play with it off, people who never had it on to begin with never wished they had it. It's not a drastic enough change to make people regret not having it.
Remember the PS3 being so much more powerful then the 360 didn't really help them in the early years to move people to their console, alot of which had to do with PS3 development is far more obtuse then xbox360 which caused a gap in game titles. In part due to ps3 being a dick to develop on at times due to the use quality of microsoft's SDK and API vs Sony's absurd use of libGCM(which is nice alot of developers like libGCM and can use it just fine) but it's the openGL emulation layer that developers hated so much.
Graphics as a standpoint is a bit easier now that it is the cheaper console but it's not like microsoft can't push their price down to 399 as well it might sell at a small loss at that point but they have enough cash reserves for such a hit.

Apparently according to Microsoft, a game being exclusive means it also works on the Pc. Silly me, I for some naive reason believed that exclusive content meant it stayed exclusive to the console and not the console and then some. I did learn something new lol.

The reason why PS3 bombed in the launch was mainly because of the insane $599 price compared to XBox 360 $399 Plus, XBox 360 during that launch time 2006 has better exclusive multiplayer FPS which Americans love. Obviously XBox 360 wins hands down. I owned both XBox 360 and PS3 btw.
Exclusives?
However till the end of the generation, Sony recover and their PS3 sold just as much as XBox 360s and also had more and better exclusives in the end(MGS4,Uncharted,Last of Us,Demon Souls,Ni no Kuni). This is due to Sony having better inhouse developers compared to Microsoft who just moneyhat to get their exclusives.
Sony promised more than 15 exclusives during their first PS4 conference back in Feb 2013. They will show more games during Gamescom or TGS 2013.
And the difference is Sony exclusives remain exclusive whereas Microsoft exclusives doesn't really remain exclusives(timed exclusives).Look at Mass Effect series.Started out as Xbox exclusive but it got ported to PC and then to PS3.
The difference now is that. PS4 having better specs and is even slimmer than PS3 Slim is launching at a cheaper price $100. Coupled with DRM/24 hour check-in issues on XBONE. Sony is on the driving seats

Anyone who think Xbox One will not sell well is a fool and should wait until both console release.
People seem to forget that not only gamers buy console...

People seem to forget that not only gamers buy console... YEA ! But how are they going to buy it when there is no shop in their country that sells Xbone. Non-gaming plus of new gaming console will work in US for some time.

People seem to forget that not only gamers buy console... Idk, at this pricetag your are able to build media PCs with a solid Win8/Linux OS. No need to endure any kind of DRM.

Non-gamers will look at prices. "Why buy a 500$-console for my son when a 400$-console does the same thing ?"

It'll sell decently well in the US and probably the UK but the rest was of the world was won by Sony before even with higher prices which means those markets should be firmly in Sony hand . Of course alot of things could change but the new Xbox really doesn't look that appealing right now if you're not in MS prime markets . Yeah i live in one of the 21 "fortunate" countries to get a new Xbox but how many of the prime entertainment features of the new Xbox will work here even if i'm able to access Xboxlive ? ( Which btw doesn't really help me anyway because i don't just want the german Xboxlive considering how retarted the german laws are with 18+ titles ) .
|
think outside of america it wont even be a question. asia doesnt get the xbone for a long time and for eu... xbone seems super focused on NA market anyways and with 100€ difference and all the "pros" of the xbone not mattering much here i dont see them succeed. i mean IF i planned to get a new console i dont see a single reason to get a xbox, its a wiiU cause of nintendo first party games or PS4.
plus possible legal issues with the drm, camera etc.
in NA.. well the huge shitstorm might die down after e3 is fully wrapped up but still this is a PR disaster that will reach the casual "whats an e3?" guy sooner or later. they will still sell well there but they also lost a ton of customers in this and only time will tell how many they really lost in the end.
