Microsoft to speak about security? Really? Yes, look at when Sony got hacked and PSN was down for a week (or longer?). Look at when Sony installed rootkits through their legally bought CDs. It's not Microsoft that's got questions to answer about security, it's Sony. Way to miss his point and go off on another tangent :|

Why isn't this guy doing PR instead of the entitled douchebags who make it sound like they don't even want customers to buy the Xbox One because it's too good for them? What he explained sounded actually reasonable, albeit I'm still not gonna buy it as I don't want my console connected to the internet. If I want internet I go to my computer, that aspect alone is a deal breaker for me and I'm glad he had the balls to verify that after 24hours you literally have a brick as a console. Yeah that is actually a legit explanation. He explained it all in a normal manner. From the reveal I got the impression that the Xbox wasn't meant for a normal everyday consumer, but for someone dandy as fuck. The PR alone made it seems completely inaccessible. I've never owned a console and probably never will since I do all my limited gaming on the PC, but this is the first time someone actually made the Xbox one NOT look like The Devil incarnate himself.
True but alas, I have my Pc for online gaming. For myself, although I have not purchased a console since the days of Playstation 2, I plan on getting the Playstation 4. Had Microsoft gone about explaining in detail the what and why in a civil, not PR Bs manner from the beginning, things would have been a lot better. But no, from the Microsoft meeting all the way to the E3, questions were not fully answered. Hell, even after E3, there is still confusion regarding the family plan and how most of this will actually be implemented.
Microsoft just lacks the ability to drop the PR controversy and stick to speaking to their consumers as human beings, especially as gamers, and not as just numbers. I mean just look at the Don Mattrick quote where he pretty much told those in the military overseas, those with possibly have data cap, or not the most stable of internet to get the 360. Sure practically speaking, that is fine but it is unacceptable and for myself, disgusting the frankness and uncaring nature of him. I know during the question, even the interview demeanor was like almost in shock and potentially disgruntled.
What they do is try to calculate every detail with what they say and its lost all human emotion. The completely fake and plastered dialogue during E3 illustrates that point exactly. Microsoft, let alone Xbox as a whole does not come off as a gaming system. Instead, it comes off as a purely financially driven, calculated device from a corporate entity (and not from gamers).

Most of that hinges on the fact that he is saying they will be able to make games cheaper because of getting rid of the second hand market. Fat fucking chance of that. You have to be living in cloud cuckoo land to be taken in by that hogswill.
Almost all of the rest of it is a pathetic attempt to denigrate the opposition with throwaway but ultimately worthless one liners, and a desperate attempt to associate xbox1 with Steam. None of these arguments come close to make the xbox1 attractive. Way too high price, bundled kinect is stupid and lame, don't care about TV crap because I surf perfectly well with a remote and without having my shitting Xbox on draining power. No good advancements and underwhelming specs.

Im actually really liking the sharing features so far. They should have done a better job explaining it. One may find it sad that "sharing games with your family!" is now a bulletpoint and not a given. Could give rise to some interesting game sharing like for PSN, the PS3 games could be downloaded on 5 consoles for one payment. If you read it, it's not sharing games with your actual family. Its about sharing games up to ten at a time to different people, not just family. It's also about those people getting all the DLC with it. Thats a good feature. I know all of that, I was talking about the wording of it i.e. share games with your family members as a feature. Did you read what I said about game sharing?
A group of people can take turns to pay for a game, then everyone can play them. Sony didn't like that people did it. Even if only one person can play it at a time, it can still somewhat work.

That pastebin looks promising, but it all depends on Microsoft's promise/ability to deliver cheaper games. If they continue to sell games at the same price as PS4 games then the biggest selling point becomes moot.

Honestly, if you care about anything other then pure games AT ALL. Xbox 1 > PS4. If all you do is play games, and nothing else, PS4.
The moment MS said this in the pastebin, they failed and lost the console wars.
PLAYING GAMES IS THE MAIN POINT OF A GAMING CONSOLE. The reason why people buy console in the first place is to play games. Everything else should be secondary(watching TV,streaming, blablabla).

The most important thing we need to make sure we do initially is agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers.
And Sony delivers.

If MS finds a way to actually offer cheaper games than Sony AND MARKETS THIS FACT or drops the price of the console down to $399 they actually stand a chance.
Microsofts largest enemy is really themselves.

Even with the same price, no DRM, I doubt MS can outsell Sony this time since they will start at the same line. Also, I believe that for every XboxOne sold Sony got a small royalty too because they co-own the Bluray patent. MS went for HDDVD and lost horribly.

True.
They shot themselves in the foot.
However though, I don't think MS will offer cheaper games than Sony. Considering how Sony countered them in E3, I am expecting the same when the game prices are announced later.

Sony doesn't set the price on 3rd party developer games though, Remember the supposed reason for lower priced games is the developer is not worrying about the used game market, etc.

There are way too many factors involved in the setting of prices for games, with one of the major factors being developers and thirdy party publishers themselves... Not to mention COMPETITION from other sources. Hence the general absurdity of the Microsoft employee's suggestion that they are on an altruistic mission to bring down game prices in that pastebin. It appears more of an attempt to simply shift the profit being made away from 2nd hand game dealers to themselves.

I see why PS4 is doing so well. MS have way overestimated the number of people who want a HTPC instead of a gaming console.

Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War) had this to say:
You cannot have game and marketing budgets this high while also having used and rental games existing. The numbers do NOT work people.
The visual fidelity and feature sets we expect from games now come with sky high costs. Assasins Creed games are made by thousands of devs.
Newsflash. This is why you're seeing free to play and microtransactions everywhere. The disc based day one $60 model is crumbling.
Those of you telling me "then just lower game budgets" do understand how silly you sound, right?

Secondly, I'm not even sure if he's even thinking about what he's saying. I know plenty of successful games that don't look amazing, heck I was playing Recettear only the other day and that's a good couple of years old and uses nothing but 2D sprites for the most part. He's shifting the main focus of games, or rather what it should be, having fun, to just looking good. All the new Monster Hunter games still look like dog turd compared to games that do aim for realistic graphics, but they still sell and they're still fun (for the people it's aimed at).

Does this man understand how silly he sounds like? So many indie/freemium/smaller game houses have put out such good titles to play and they don't need 5000 devs to finetune the visual aspect to sell their game.
Has it maybe finally occurred to people like him that just stunning visuals is actually only a very very expensive crutch at selling games? Like, that your actual good game idea, gameplay and story might just maybe be more economic way to sell good games. Who woulda figured, huh?

Cliff is an absolute moron. He makes high budget brown n bloom generic bro culture cover shooters. People like him waste millions developing and marketing terrible games while others like CD Projekt make infinitely better, higher quality products, on a fraction of the money. He's everything that's wrong with the industry. And why would you need a thousand people to churn out another AC when they're all on the same engine and reuse tons of assets. These big budget developers are just completely irresponsible with their budgets

It doesn't work because marketing budgets are larger than development budgets and the games are derivative shit. It's like saying movie ticket prices need to be higher because Wil Smith's latest movie flopped. How about don't make shit and then spend 30 million advertising your shit? This is like reverse 'gamer-entitlement', it's the customers fault our bad games aren't profitable!
