Wildstar may be technically smaller, but it's so crazily densely packed it's insane, so I doubt WoW had more actual stuff.
I dunno, I feel like we're just arguing now which definitely wasn't the intent :p
I haven't been in the exile area's since beta so i can't remember them very well, but once you get to whitevale there are definitely decent area's to just afk farm. Also remember the playerbase is super concentrated around the starting area's right now, I'm already seeing a noticeable decrease in the number of players around as people are spreading out more over the levels (and as i get higher.) With the number of alts people make to test out classes + the number of guest passes, the first few zones (up til level 15-20) are gonna be packed compared to the rest for a while.
But the best magic bullet is just finding a friend (or random person, just add people to your group if you see someone else grinding too, and maybe invite them to ts/skype.) really makes the it even more fun, and lets you take on the bigger mobs designed for groups, which also greatly increases your xp rate. (Dunno if they appear before whitevale though, can't remember.)

It's extremely densely packed with quests and quest stuff but not with mobs Whitevale definitely is more big and more empty so the later half of leveling might be "grindable". Team farming is definitely more fun since you can pull those elite/superior dudes and AoE farm them together with normal mobs. I rolled the wrong class too, I should have went with a healing class but went with Stalker which feels like a poor mans warrior.
Speaking of which, how are the different healing classes? Is Medic the superior class at healing and the others being more hybrid oriented or are all similarly good for dungeon healing?

Medic: Medium range strong heals, lots of wide telegraphs, Relies on using some heals as builders to build stacks to use his bigger heals. Main bonus vs the other healers is he can also heal shields.
Esper: Lots of targetted (non telegraph) heals, some spells build stacks which other heals then abosorb to heal more depending on the number of stacks. His innate pins him on the spot, but gives a ton more stacks.
Spellslinger: Lots of medium to long range heals, with typically pretty narrow telegraphs which can be quite hard to hit, his spells tend to heal a bit less then the others, but on the flip side instead of builders system of stacks, spellslinger just has spellsurge which you can use to dramatically overpower individual spells. Spellsurge (the innate) can feel a bit clunky to some people though, and you need to use spellsurge well + aim well make spellslinger as efective as the other two, which makes SS frustrating for some people, and super fun for others.

I guess I'll try reroll a healer on Dominion to get some fresh content and endure to whitevale and see if I like it. Really want to get back into playing a MMO after a couple of years break. Are y'all on Ravenous?
|
Most people are on Ravenous Dominion. A couple are on Hazak Dominion incl. myself and 6-7 of my personal friends, and a few randomers we've picked up along the way.

jeeez im back.
I just wanted to update my GPU, but then i needed to update my mainboard bios , because it didnt boot with the GPU with its old bios version. I took the official MSI bios updater, it never had an error and even overwrote the backup bios after the first update didnt have any errors. And then of course somehow the bios doesnt work on my mainboard and my pc didnt even post. No way to recover the mainboard, so i drove to a store i worked for when i was in school, they had everythig i needed, luckily.
So, 800 euro shorter, i can now run the game at 60 fps on high at least. When i turn on vsynn it goes to 30 fps for some stupid reason, i wish the game had an fps limiter like diablo 3.
Anways, now trying a medic! Where do i get my guestcodes, i should have some to give away.

I basically built my new computer with wildstar in mind :p

That's not so weird. V-sync, easily explained, goes to the next best stable (so NEVER under that) FPS. It probably cannot keep up 60FPS at ALL times, so it goes to half your refresh rate, which is 30.
I'm running the game at 35-50 FPS in most quest zones which is doable. In Illium I still only have about 30, but as said, it's okay. Going to get a new GPU next year and hope optimization is still going to fix so that I can atleast play on medium/high with 50+ FPS

Yes! we play on Dominion Ravenous! Just ask Garleth or me (Fuelled) whenever we're online for an invite and we'll gladly add you

In better terms, screen refreshes every 16.67ms, you either have a frame ready exactly in that time, or you dont. It a single frame, like this can happen when you have 80fps average but only one frame takes 16.68ms, then it will be held in buffer until the next refresh after another 16.67ms period (33.334ms, 1/30'th of a second since last frame)
Just got woken up my skype call at 1:30am (they're appreciated, especially if anyone playing w/ EU guys wants to add me and text/voice chat but plz message first ) so i'm gonna sleep a few more hours then get back to playing, just put some intro time in yesterday (i couldn't seem to zone chat or whisper people with the guest pass?) and i think i got a solution to the turn sensitivity thing. Looks good/fun so far, but i've been trying to avoid some information because i'm usually not happy playing like an MMO or a competitive game (think like DOTA) without looking up all of the champion abilities after 2 games, and i'd rather have some fun and get some decent hours in, rather than freaking out over it
As for guy with like 250ms ping to europe, ouch, i get the feeling that 100 would significantly negatively affect the feel of this game, worse than WoW etc anyway

It depends on hardware usage, the game is quite dominant with one thread, so i doubt more than three CPU cores would help. I have the best thing available for it (Haswell @4.7ghz) but it still choked at times, also seems really GPU heavy. In GPU heavy areas my 770 was eaten i was able to double my FPS by turning down a few settings, keeping the important stuff, and using 512 render distance, but before i did that, i saw sub-40 FPS half a dozen or so times in the time it took to get to level ~4.5, my 144hz screen was upset

I'm running a stock i5 4670k (so 3.4ghz) and I've yet to see it drop below 60 fps, except for very very brief blips of high 50's when new area's get loaded (and that's once every few hours). I even have a pretty beastly fan on the thing in preparation for whenever i need to get around to oc-ing it, but it's just not been necessary, even with everything in the game maxed out.
On the other hand, my 780 is running hot pretty consistently between 60-70 degrees, and jumping between 70-95% load.
I think one of the largest changes you can make gameplay wise, (short of throwing in new actual hardware) is putting the game onto a small ssd though. game is soooo smooth :D

I get the impression that it would drop sometimes. Maybe a few settings like draw distance, objects etc have a significant effect on CPU load, because one core is getting destroyed. I could benchmark, but i'l play the game for a while first
i saw a LOT of people complaining about performance, and many saying that the game was not even using resources, but i've seen myself either gpu bound or with one cpu core at max, so not really weird bad performance with no resource usage. It's like sc2, when people see 35% load on a quad core, 20% load on gpu, 20fps - when they had one core maxed the whole time. I'm not really sure to the extent that wildstar relies on a fast CPU, but i wouldn't really feel confident running it on FX and i get the impression that i could throw a few gtx880's at it and not have a constant ~170fps (though that's a pretty wild goal in terms of CPU and completely acceptable to miss :D)
my char name is xAeryn i think

So I rolled a Medic on Hazak EU called Kotten. Dominion is sure a lot more fun than Exile so far.

my i5 4670 doesnt go over 50 degrees when playing in any core, so thats basically 50% load max. My GPU is lso chilling at under 70 degrees.
And yet, my framerates sometimes go below 60.
I still think there is something wrong with the vsync, btw. Even when i get 90% over 60fps, vsync will lock it at 30. And also, without vsync, there is abolutely no screen tearing, even at 34 fps when the addon memory leaks ate all my ram.
i wish there was just an fps limit function, as i often have 80 or even more fps, wasting my elecricity and making my room heat :D
Also, why the hell are we split up in EU, really annoying.

Hazak was the only server in beta, we had no prior planning and those of who are not on Ravenous had plans with friends on Hazak.

So I just bought the game. Ravenous it is?

You CANNOT determine your load percentage from temperature especially on a CPU :0
if you had all four cores loaded equally, you could approximate it against a load like 100% with a video encoder. However, one 100% CPU load might put you at 50c, while another puts you at 95c, just due to the nature of how the CPU and instruction sets are used. It's particularly like that with Haswell which has an extremely fast FPU, but gets VERY hot when it's used heavily at those speeds.
also, 25% load on a quad core can easily mean 1 core at max. When determining if CPU is limiting performance, you don't look at the average of all of your cores. You look at the stat which is essentially called Max CPU/Thread usage - which shows the usage of your highest load core. 9 times out of 10, that information is better than the % average of all cores.
As for GPU.. If it's not at 100% load in Wildstar, from what i've seen, that means you're being held back by the CPU.
