ChrisG interview starting at 1:23:00 Nothing too controversial I think. I guess he's just vocalizing about the state of the FGC not attracting enough cash.

Sorry, but from my point of view, eSports is not a success story. It has yet to prove that it is something more than a bubble inflated by the investment of Riot and Blizzard, especially when it comes to Blizzard and Starcraft II. Blizzard ruined a lot of the foundation built on Brood War when they decided to control the scene rather than work with KeSPA. If the FGC wants to be successful long-term, they need to learn from the story of professional Brood War, starting with small teams getting sponsorships, eventually achieving a sustainable model. The current state of affairs is not the way to go.

If the FGC wants to be successful long-term, they need to learn from the story of professional Brood War, starting with small teams getting sponsorships, eventually achieving a sustainable model. The current state of affairs is not the way to go. The problem with what you're saying is that the FGC continuously uses the argument, "well the FGC has been around forever and we know how do to things". But if the FGC has been around for so long, why do players consistently come up with issues like ChrisG brought up time and time again? I don't think it was condescending and short-sighted at all. We might not have all the answers in eSports, we might not even be on the right path... but we're on a BETTER path. When players are dropping out of the FGC because they cannot get the team or financial support they need to play, and win... don't you think there is a problem there? It doesn't matter which current state of affairs they wish to follow, only that they realize their current path is one that has grown stagnant and continues to shrink, rather than grow. Also we've never ever suggested that the FGC completely succumb to eSports, but rather use it as an example of how things have grown, become successful, and most importantly sustainable. But please don't make it seem like even we think that the current state of Esports is flawless and without issues. It's most definitely flawed and most definitely has issues... but it is what's working right now.
