For all I know, the story might be superb, but that's hard to appreciate when you have to grid your teeth whenever you enter combat.

Apparently combat has improved greatly in the last few beta iterations.

and IMO the graphics are overloaded and bad, remember those early 3D RTS where you just cant see WTF is going on? Its like that to me.

Its like that to me. How are they overloaded? Character models don't look all that good to me, but the backgrounds are excellent. Same style as IE games, basic pre-rendered shit then paint stuff over. IE games had this too where character models kind of stood out compared to the background, but I think that's to be expected. BG2 probably had the best contrast between characters/background and maybe TOEE too.

Ill try again today, but i could not see whats going on, who hits whom, what monster is knocked down on its back etc. Infinity Engine looked much more visually clean to me.

IE didn't overdo the visual effects because they were pretty limited in how good they could make them look in 1998-2000, so the end result stays on the side of being functional and recognizable. Maybe you're just not into the CRPG combat formula anymore, but IE combat is still better than most CRPGs today. Played BG recently and enjoyed the combat just fine. If PoE's combat is bad, it's because PoE's combat is bad, not because the IE combat formula didn't age well. Admittedly, BG/IWD having interesting combat is not really a product of the engine, but rather a product of good encounter design, which can save even a poor combat system/engine. The reverse case is ToEE, which has a great combat engine but awful encounter design where you have a ton of combat options, but 95% of your combats are against utterly boring and one-dimensional enemies, so the majority of the time the strength of the engine isn't utilized.
