your tactics - if that's 2.7 you're going to be taking something like 33% more casualties from the start all other things being equal

Also, you don't have enough cannon. Cannon is already effective at tech 13, at 1700s its near necessary to have full 2nd line artillery. 2nd line artillery gives its defensive pips to the unit in front of it - with late cannon having 3-4~ def pips, a unit not backed with cannon is effectively getting +3-4 fire and +1 shock die rolls against it, as well as taking higher morale damage, since cannon have defensive morale pips as well. Even though the Ottomans are over-cannoning, the parts of your center without cannon are going to get smashed, your combat line will 'contract' and you're going to end up getting flanked by cannons that do double damage because they are front-line

Ottomans also have a 10% disc advantage on you which means 10% more damage delivered by his troops and 10% less damage taken by his troops.

It is hard to have a league of any kind. Most people play against the computer though multiplayer is somewhat popular. The goal being having fun, world conquest or similar things isn't possible against other humans.

There isn't really any way to compete in the game offline since it is made to make each game different from the last. Popular streamers do hard stuff that most normal players can't or won't do due to the time investment. Some of the achievements are only possible if you cheat or use versions of the game with glitches in them.

My Ethiopia game is screwed for the same reason as yours. :/ Ottomans blobbed like mad in my game, had by far the biggest army. It's easy to take a lot of land with Ethiopia, but it's all piss poor, that in combination with poor autonomy management made my army like 75% of the Ottoman numbers at best. Add the difference in generals and military tech and I couldn't touch them.

Thinking about restarting,that game I will take as much of the middle east before the Ottomans arrive and hopefully getting Austria and the Commonwealth to attack them from the north. The Coptic faith is not just awesome pink, it also means easy alliances with Christian great powers.

Ethiopia is starting to sound more and more like a fun nation to play as. It has real challenges in the midgame that is not solved by being agressive or lucky early on, while also having a prime position to take a number of different directions.

I would definately go to fight central african powers for their rich provinces as soon as possible. Expanding into the middle east is risky due to opening up extra fronts for the powerful muslim states gain this way - but it might be needed to stop Ottoman expansion.

The main thing I think could make the game easier is to maintain the balance of power between the Ottomans and the Mamluks. Siding with or attacking the Mamluks based on how well the Ottomans are doing might give you enough of a break to gain a decent size before you have to face the Ottomans in a full on war for dominance.

I am not sure if I got this right. I always thought if you have more cannons than infantry (like in the screenshot with the ottomans) its bad because the cannons dont have a meatshield and are getting obliterated.

Or does it have to do with the front line size? for example if its 15 I should have 15 infantry which are in the front line then and 30 canons which are in the second line?
But during battles the infantery dies very fast and after multiple battles you still end up with only cannons on the front line right??

I have a similar problem with my current oirat game. The russian are incredibly overpowered. They have more men, better technology and better generals than me Dont know what to do, does tactic of scorched earth help? Because it doesnt really seem to bother them.

rebels are so fucking broken now.

I tried a game with Zazzau ( sub-sahara), my force limit is 9 and rebels spawn 3 stacks of 14

I know I don't have enough cannons - I wasn't expecting the leaderless Turk army to attack into my 3-star. The 12 regiments on forced march towards the battle are 80% cannons.

That still doesn't answer why on the very first day of the battle I've already lost over 1 morale.

Do I read that correctly in the screenshot that you have 2.7 to his 3.6 tactics? That makes a hell of a difference because you lose so many more troops than him resulting in a bunch of a morale drop quite quickly. That's most of your problems right there - even if you had more troops / better composition etc.

Again, I'm more interested in why I seem to start the battle with 3.76/5.49, when my morale was full when I entered combat. Like as soon as the battle screen comes up I've already lost that much.

Yes I do. You can actually tell that from the image, if you look at the other armies that haven't engaged yet. The morale bar is only green when maintenance slider is at max: otherwise it is yellowish.

I'm not sure what the best strat is at this point. I'm at about 50% Westernization and the Aspiration for Liberty event just triggered. Between that and Ottomans gunning for me I'm in for a rough couple of years. I doubt France can get the access necessary to actually help with the Ottomans, and there is NO chance of using transports in the Mediterranean. Despite Turkish naval limit being like 180, they have over 300 ships with 200 of those being galleys. Mare nostrum I guess.

WTF FRANCE

They were warleader, England had sieged a lot of my coast but I finally squished their army and was going to get it all back. Until they peace out the war... Of all of my territories they could have ceded, they give up that one?

Like wtf... fucking Ironman. A week earlier I was considering just white peacing and leaving France in the lurch, instead they fucking ruin me. I don't even have ships to get my guys out of there, and it's such a big risk anyway with the Spanish armada sailing around. Meanwhile of course the Turkish horde is barreling south for round three.

So what you learned is not letting the AI negotiate for you unless you are winning the war, and even then you might want to be careful with that.

You not played AoW yet? There's no checkbox anymore, the warleader can always negotiate for you.

Which is not possible anymore, since this ability has been removed.
From the patchnotes 1.8:

No longer possible to block warleader from negotiating for you (They can still only negotiate for occupied territory however)


Basically he could do nothing about it.

I ended up just giving Ottos a big swathe of territory, there was no stopping them because they got entrenched in Ethiopia's mountains while my army chillaxed in Mat Solo. When I get home it's time for round 4, and this time the Russians will be with me. If the war goes well I should be able to recover all of my cores.

To set an ambitious game end goal, gonna try to drive the Ottomans out of Africa completely.

Tried one game as Korea when this happened. Haixi's rebels aren't besiege any provinces and reloading the game didn't solve this problem. Has something like this happened to anyone else?
