Horse archers, hm. Regular/light cavalry?
Basically, each time a general gain rank and age, you can "secure a promotion" for him. (Faction tab, click on your guys and bottom right) This cost money and influence. In return, he gains gravitas and bonuses (tax, movement and what not). Gravitas and ambition will gain you influence back.
The thing is, if you use a general from another side than yours, they will secure promotion for themselves, and gain influence. So the best strategy is to use this general as garrisson army and never let them gain too much ranks. It is a tradeoff because it will slow down your expansion.
Against horse archer, war dogs are amazing.
Edit: Since my civil war, it seems that I can no longer assassinate/ secure promotion / spread rumours and stuff... Like the button are empty, i just have empty boxes... Anyone knows if its a bug ? Can't seem to find it on google

I'd've never guessed this. O_O That makes me want to try it out and see. I assume you mean to at least slow down the bow cav until heavier troops arrive?

Dogs are faster than cav and actually kill them. Its amazing. The lighter the cav, the better for the dogs.

That's really interesting, huh.... I've rarely used them, but always saw war dogs as infantry-shredding specialists. Never as anti-cav. 'Least I've finally got an answer to stinking bow cavalry.

War dogs are very good against light infantery or archer, that's for sure. They are very bad against heavy spear units, can do some damage against heavy infantery if they are already engaged.
I always use them in the following manner when I play quick battle as rome: I engage the ennemy cav with my inferior cav number, but use my war dogs to win the fight anyway. If there is horse archer, I just wait for them to come close and then unleash the hounds.
I have a replay if you guys want

Have you tried war dogs against chariots yet? And are they faster than even those?

At first I thought they disabled the fucked up Diplomacy system coz it sucked. Because right when I finished the Civil-War Patch 1 hit. But obviously other people have the same issue. So it's like: Hey you are Emperor/BestestChieftain there are no other powers in your country. Weird and unreasonable. But it fits into all the rushed parts of this game...

That's because the game can still lag badly on high end machines. It lags pretty badly on my desktop depending on actions I take. For an example, the game has numerous pathfinding bugs where something in the logic goes wrong and goes on some infinite loop that taxes processing power. The game goes to a completely crawl until that unit somehow manages to get somewhere else. There are plenty of instances where the game just slows to a complete crawl that requires the game to be closed and restarted again. Sometimes, the extreme lag does clear up on its own, though.

The internal politics system isn't really a real fleshed out part of the game. It's just a tacky addition to slow down the player in the midgame. CA is known to do that with Shogun 2's realm divide being the last one.

It's more fleshed out for Rome and Carthage, since it explains that by winning the civil war you overthrow the Republic and declare yourself Emperor. For the other factions, it just kind of happens. But you don't have to worry about faction politics after a civil war, unless you're Rome/Carthage and choose to preserve the Republic after winning. The other factions don't get that choice since they weren't Republics to begin with.

Is there a way to stop the camera from resetting to the default angle whenever you zoom in or out in a battle? I always try to tilt the camera to get more of a top-down view but as soon as I zoom, it goes back to the old angled view.

Realm divide at least had some logic attached to it. Everyone would want to gang up on your for sheer survival.

This guide may fix your problem by avoiding it altogether. It's a tad more to get used to, but it's ultimately a more freeing system than before.

You have to edit a game file to turn directx11 off. This article explains how to do it http://www.unigamesity.com/how-to-fix-total-war-rome-2-crashes-freezes-and-other-problems/

In Rome 1, normal bowman were pretty good against horse archers, as they had more range and would win a ranged battle against them every time. Don't know if you can convince the horses in Rome 2 to fight your regular archers.

After finally ending wars on 2 out of 3 fronts a civil war happened. I only have 1 fleet and about 5 armies.
