The only times reviews can be credible is if they're all giving 2 or 3 with very negative comments (ie Citadels).
8.5/10 means that the game is good and it's up to your own taste to decide whether or not you like it.

Total Wars have a history of getting worse ratings at the start of release than they end up with IIRC. Eh, my most trusted place is PCGamerUK. They normally give Total war games at least 90% regardless, but they only gave it 85%. It's a bad sign :c Wait until you've played it. If you've preordered anyway, you're better off making your own mind up. Yeah ofc. I think I'll really enjoy it. I just have a feeling there will be annoying niggles in the game. Then again, we always have patches, it is a total war game afterall : D

I haven't found a review website which is remotely credible. Only place you can trust is the consensus of your friends who share your tastes. PcGamer are just as much of a waste of space as any of them. Maybe less blatant bribery but still just as much incompetence!

Lol it wouldn't surprise me, although Shogun 2 was a marked improvement on the buginess of Empire.

I think I'll wait for some good mods to come out (like europa barbarorum).
Yeah, that's my way of saying I don't have any money right now

Buggiest release of a major game since Skyrim. I've had 4 crash to desktops, 3 of which were in the tutorial, and a bunch of graphics tearing on both extreme and low settings which is hilarious. I have two very nice computers, one has a radeon and one has a GTI, both of them do the same thing. also I get like 30 FPS on lowest possible settings, same as the fps i get on extreme. Absolutely disgusting.

Weird!
I can run it perfectly well on almost extreme(although there was one naval battle where it lagged a lot though). I have no ctds so far and no tearing really. I have played for about 3 hours.
Don't know why you seem to have as much problems though.

I haven't had any problems yet. Game runs smoothly in single player and my computer isn't even that good. I get that you're disappointed though. I do wish the battle speed was little slower, but i'm sure mods will fix that over time. Overall first impressions 9/10, but first impressions count for nothing in a game that takes hours and hours just to be competent at.

I'm not the only one having problems so I expect a patch, but yeah once the game works I think I'll give it a 9/10, I've still put in 5 hours of play.

Anyone else find the UI a bit confusing? I'm not sure if it's something I'll eventually come to mark as an improvement or just get used to it.

Definitely. I've put it down as being something i'll get better at over time though. I think its because the UI is trying to be too simple so you have to go hunting around for the deeper data.

My friend has a medium quality rig and says he is running it on max everything :S. If you have CTDs regularly maybe it means you have driver issues for your gfx card or you have undervoltage on your cpu seeing as it's a cpu intensive game..
He also said the UI was confusing so I am expecting to be bamboozled when I get home.

Nice, i am watching a coop-campaign.stream and in turn 3, they had the de-syncissue from Shogun II. WTF?!?!?!? Onlione gaming is 20 years old and they are still too stupid to implement a mp...

I will be. Just got up. Unpacking the game now. 6:00 A.M. over here. I slept in, lol.
Edit: #%$@, unpack faster. Steam's giving me the "Windows downloader" treatment. Can't hardly sort itself out. >_<'

Didn't watch any of the dev content... Played it for an hour or two, don't really like it that much, everything seems a lot more simplified/"consolized" and the game map -- to me, seems less detailed than Shogun2

They did that with the intention of streamlining the late-game. I like the idea in principle, but it will take actual experience to confirm that it works.

i just encountered the weirdest bug ever. playing a coop campaign with my roomie, when i was assaulting a city, our respective battle maps were entirely different. the town he saw had 3 victory points, mine only 1, i had a temple complex, he had a lighthouse and so on. gates and towers and even the wall were built in completely different spots. i have no clue how something like that even happens. we had no crashes so far, and fps are decent as well, but could surely do with some optimization.

Holy crudmuffins from heck. 10 installation steps?! D-:
Edit: Faster than I imagined.
We are LIVE!!!

The UI is way more confusing than Shogun 2 and Shogun 2 was pretty confusing already. Maybe its just me but i keep getting attacked by random provinces which i can't even pronounce. Still a great game though
|
So I actually failed the prologue, lol. Silanus randomly died as I was about to sack the final Samnite city.

Ok guys i've been playing since 9 am and I really enjoy the game.
I have some issues though:
First off, it takes ages for the computer to process the other faction turns. (So many of them..) Second, the game doesn't allow me in the preset graphic setting to go further than medium. I tried the benchmark thingy with high and had 10 fps.
My computer is a laptop MSI GT 70 with a i7 3610QM I have a NVDIA GeForce GTX 675M / 2GB GDDR5 4GB RAM DDRIII
Any help / adivce? Its the first game i can't put on max settings :/
