Overall the ARR's story is good ,but all of the stories from like 2.2 onwards have been fantastic, and have been probably the best storytelling in the entire mainline series. The filler moments are too much unfortunately. Watching a friend try to go through all of ARR at once was a total drag. I kinda omit that part when I think about the story, but it has a huge impact on the player experience. As for the story alone, I really find it wonderful. There are a lot of great moments in it and it's probably the main reason why I play the game. Heavensward really nailed it up through Nidhogg, though I'm a bit less interested in the Garlean plot. Same could be said for the Garlean section in ARR. They just kinda seem like faceless bad dudes (literally masks!...helmets?). Maybe Stormblood will flesh them out to be more interesting.

Also, the Hildebrand questline is the funniest shit I've ever played through in any MMO ever. The Garleans have FFXII Judge armor which I always loved btw.

Some of the ARR -> HW transition stuff was good, other stuff was painful. HW on the whole is absolutely amazing, with only a couple of drag points because there's not enough stuff to prevent you from being level gated frequently on the MSQ. Also, the Hildebrand questline is the funniest shit I've ever played through in any MMO ever. The Garleans have FFXII Judge armor which I always loved btw. I'm really looking forward to the Ivalice raid, because we're probably going to get legit Judge armor there.

I've only played Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy XII, so I'm not sure what in your mind Ivalice is like, besides a very political setting. But yeah, a staple of the Ivalice setting from Tactics Advice onwards are the races that were introduced, as well as the Judges. There's also a cool dungeon in the current version of Final Fantasy, which is a giant love letter to Tactics Ogre, really awesome redone song from Tactics Ogre:

I really hope they dont kill Yshtola. It's very possible it's bait like we had the bait on Ameryic in the patch 3.2 trailer, however, they also have said they want Zenos to be known as a giant evil prick, because they've had a "problem" of too many sympathetic Garleans. That might be the easiest way for them to get us to hate Zenos is to have him off Yshtola. I hope not though!

They can't be that dumb.

A certain conversation between her and Matoya established the fact that her new aether-atuned eyes come at the cost of consuming her own life energy faster than she normally would. Meaning that unless she somehow reverses it or finds a way to "replenish" her energy, she'll be dead soon no matter what happens. That being said, I don't see them spoiling a death in the trailer.

Secondly, this screams bait, like you said they wouldnt show her dying in a trailer, this kind of reminds us of Aymeric getting stabbed in the 3.2 trailer.

For HW I basically skipped the first two patches just to level everything up to 60. Think I might torture myself with that again and not worry about racing to endgame. Don't even really know for sure what I want play with the jobs changed as they are.

I don't think rushing to end game will be worth it, the good tomes wont be out, neither will the raid. Relax and enjoy life. Also new gear:
