Unfortunately due to red mage and samurai both being added in Stormblood which are both dps, a lot of people are trying out the new jobs making the dps queues longer than usual. Crafting/gathering are definitely something to check out, but I'd suggest levequests as well either for your crafting/gathering or battle classes. Fates are ok but it's pretty mindless grinding.

I believe you should be high enough soon to unlock Palace of the Dead which has better queue times, but you'll need to enter dungeons every once in awhile to continue the story.

Well the point I'm at now I literally had to do 3 dungeons in a row. I'm guessing I won't hit another for a bit now.

My queue times weren't actually that bad in the other 2 (15-20 minutes).

I was pulling almost 4k dps in the ending dungeons of HW on SMN, now I'm getting like mid to high 2k in i270~ content.
I am very bitter about it even though a nerf was needed ; ;
Is there gonna be a new king of dungeons in 4.0 to replace SMN?

I dont run dps meters so I have no idea for actual math. I can say in my dungeons though Red Mages are doing some very nice damage, things melted with the 2 of us. The one dungeon i ran with a summoner they seemed to not do much prolonged damage, although they could burst fine on trash stuff.

I am a Monk for comparison, but felt like Red Mages were doing as much or more damage as I was in most pulls, Samurai a little behind? BLM seemed to do quite alright too, haven't seen many of the other classes. Haven't done a single dungeon with Dragoon/Bard/Machinist at all, although seen some in Trials.

I'm seeing tons of people say Red Mage is super fun as well. I'm thinking of jumping on that train once I'm lvl 50.

SMN dps is a bit more clunky now since it heavily relies on your pet management. But with akh morn you are still easily pulling 6k dps on adds, might also be because I already have the susano weapon but smn aoe is still there (rip my scholar though), it just shifted to your pet.
damage seems to be good all around, only thing for sure right now is that samurai has the highest potential single target dps.

Both new classes play incredibly fluid while also looking really fancy, it is hard to fight the urge to switch to them :D

So, I feel I should warn you that the main ARR story has some rather big lulls between the good parts. I hope you can slug it out cause the other primals are pretty good indeed.
I mean, that is if you don't like running around the world setting up dinner parties.

Between Ifrit and Titan it takes forever, Titan -> Garuda is satisfying most of the way but there's a lull at the end, and towards the end, practically every other quest level gates you.

You will also be triggered by the words "Pray return to the Waking Sands" by the end of all of this.

Yeah, I love this game to death, but post Ifrit just freaking blows. You spend forever on like getting party supplies or whatever to get to the next primal, Titan.

I actually did not mind that part of the game since it was still new enough that I was traveling to new places and properly progressing in levels. Sure it seemed wonky but the fights are definitely worth it (most trials are very fun, some of the optional ones are awesome too!)

My main issue is post ARR/pre HW content, where you have that huge gap of quests that give you almost no exp and you're level 50 for some time.

I love this trial, but geez it puts people that can't do their job right in their place lol. I have seen so many people fall/not be able to do enough dps/die to mechanics it is hilarious. Definitely a worthy fight when you compare it to final trials of patches of ARR/HW

Queue times vary based on the data center, not the server. I'm on Behemoth myself, but I just do what I can on my own. No statics for me.

I believe he was referring to the queue to actually get into the world, not for duty finder. In any case, with the now data center-wide party finder, it shouldn't be too hard to find groups to do content. I'd suggest at least trying that before transfering.

Ah, the character creation restrictions. In that case then yea getting into Balmung would indeed be a nightmare.
