Yea Tactics is one of my all time favorites and i'm playing through XII for the first time right now. Pretty hyped to see some Ivalice. Most of all though i'm just hoping for some good SMN changes.

I don't raid either. I'm still working on leveling everything up to the 70 cap. I'm excited to see people complain about it being too hard though, if it's anything like they've hyped it up to be.

Oh man, I thought ultimate coil was going to be a remake of a couple coil tier bosses, but it turns out it's just one long 20 minute fight? I dunno what to think of that. Definately a unique approach to take anyway.

I would not say it is "just" one long 20 minute fight.
Twintania alone is already a tight 3 minute enrage fight, with way higher mechanics density than the entirety of omega savage. It was fun to prog through that yesterday. Also mechanics might look identical but you have to deal with them a bit differently from back in the coils days. Cannot comment much on later phases since we always wiped shortly after the transition to Nael, but so far it is already more enjoyable from a challenge point of view than omega savage was.

Is there still not a ffxiv equivalent of wowprogress? I know there's not a useful API to use, but I'd assume there would be like, a handmade version of it, with at least the top guilds.

As far as I know there is only the spreadsheet maintained by frosty from mogtalk that you can find on the subreddit. A band-aid would be fflogs although that is only useful in tracking speedkills after a while and not everyone is uploading their logs publicly. Right now it kind of works in showing just how small the clear rate for ultimate is so far

I've listened to LBR a few times lately, and man can they be depressing. Not that I even disagree with their criticisms of the development/content cycle, but it's just not fun to listen to them complain after awhile.

I do occasionally listen to mogtalk if he has an interesting topic set for a particular day. But I dislike LBR because of the issues Tachion just said pretty much. If you want to get some really good insight into the ultimate fight there is layla's 2hour+ rundown on the entire fight. Might be overkill but listening to it in excerpts can be good. I kinda did just to help with our own prog on the fight but it is quite nice and highly informative.

While not necessarily a podcast the speaker's network has a nice little series about leftovers from FFXIV 1.0 called remnants of the realm and also the fall and rise series on 1.0 in general. Noclip's documentary on that is also a really good watch.
