I've played for a bit these past few days and I must say, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I can see why people would hate on the grindy nature of the game but c'mon, it's a japanese rpg, what do you expect ^^?
Because I like healing in these kind of games i rolled a conjurer and, although the lvling is a bit repetitive due to the lack of skills, it is almost impossible to die. I healed the first dungeon, sastasha(?) and it was very easy. But that's to be expected, it being the first dungeon and all..
Overall I will probably get bored in a few weeks as I always do in MMO's but for now it's fun! . And catgirls ftw obviously

So they got rid of queue and now they just say the world is full?
Awesome

Damn PvP looks good, can't wait for it to be refined in terms of class usability. God now I just want to hermit out and put some actual time into this game

So, apparently Square Enix decided that no one is allowed to monetize FFXIV videos. http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=5382&la=1&tag=authc
Extremely stupid IMO. I wonder if this applies to running ads during twitch streaming? If so, not only will there be no FFXIV youtube videos, but also no one streaming on twitch. Good idea, publicity peoples.

well, there goes their free advertisement.

TotalBiscuit already tweeted that he won't do coverage for this game because of it.

It's Square Enix baby.

Gagging information is usually done by people that think that the information spread will hurt their business. So does SE think that when people stream people will be turned off from buying the game?
On a brighter note, servers has been splendid today!

They are monetizing my vids from initial release on youtube though... Mah, I'd rather run vids without ads, but it's better than ban it all together at least.

The problem is no one is going to want to stream or do video reviews/gameplay, so those of us on the fence will be stuck relying on written reviews (which are plastered with adds, hilariously) for information before deciding to buy. IMO written reviews are way inferior to video reviews/streaming for those purposes so..there you go.
Keep up with the quality replies though.

Square Enix hasn't ever been that worried about these types of things for some reason: they are almost as behind the times as Nintendo.

Written reviews are in no way 'inferior' unless of course your preference is absolute.

Being able to see gameplay and get a feel for how the game works while listening to the review is just a better format in my opinion. I meant what I said as a general statement. It would be stupid to say all video reviews or all "lets play" type things are better than written reviews, but for me, the best in the video format more often than not will do a lot more than the best in the written format as far as showing me what a game is all about and whether or not I'll enjoy it.

Anything similar to the "badge buffs" you get from guards to make them drop from mobs? Or now they are mostly quest rewards and that's it? - What level do I unlock sub-jobs? What about the crafting jobs? - What level should I consider healing Tam Tara (sp?) the first dungeon? - Anything I should particulary keep in mind in early low lvl? Any can't-miss questline or just something that a new player should be aware of? - Last one: Anyone in the Phoenix (EU) server? Any linkshells going? As a TL member should I have rolled elsewhere? How do I get to know my server's community? Official forums are kind of a wasteland.
1: You earn them from every gathering class. Thing is some gatherers earn at lvl 20+/- a special skill that rumps up earning of specific shards signifanctly. The affinity of skill depends on the class eg. Botanist earns faster Ice/Wind/Earth shards. Shards are used up by crafters, and starting crafting quests give you ton of them. Problem is that around lvl 20-30 you no longer get any of them from quests, and they use up pretty fast.
2: Lvl 30 of primary class + lvl 15 of secondary class = Job class acess. All crafting classes are aviable after reaching your first 10 levels on character.
3: Dungeons are early really easy, so you shouldnt be afraid to go even with lower level or trash gear.
4: Dont throw away craft stuff earned from mobs without using it or selling on market(especially HQ), read on websites about materia system, and stash your old gear so you can salvage it later for profit. Read advices/hints that game gives you.

any TLers on Adamantoise?

Welp. Got my White Mage. Game is pretty fun so far. Difficulty and pace seems to ramp up after 30. You can def be one shot in instances if you screw up. Pretty boring and simple from 1-20, but it does get better. Leveling Sub classes is pretty dry, but gives you some more spells in the end. Gonna stick with it for awhile.

How could they even enforce this for twitch streaming, have an employee watching each stream to see if the steamer runs an ad while playing the game? And even then the streamer could just exit the game, stream their desktop and run the ads then.
