My character levels: Thaumaturgist 20, Pugilist 15, Archer 10, Weaver 20, Botanist 17.
Defineatly the most comftable class to level up is Archer. It's easy, fast and fun. I really recommend this class for a starting play if your alone without support. Its buffs are usefull to mix with other classes, if you decided to stick up with something else, and you can get acess to nice support job of a Bard.
I play on Moogle, if your interested in contact you can PM me here on TL.

Smooth beta. Good on SE for getting that right. If you had issues then I'd say you were either unfortunate or just not computer savvy enough to navigate through some files.
I'd give it a 7/10, solid. That's me being as unbiased as possible. Really it'd creep up on my scale for a 8.5/10 just because I love the Final Fantasy series so much and the game play is actually smooth unlike the Legacy version. Slowly I see myself shifting into the casual gamer seat due to work and the near end of my college life so I feel like this game would be the perfect way to spend my free time. Just the nostalgia, great music and all, man I'm so biased I shouldn't even offer my opinion on this game.
I wish I had more time to lvl up and to see all the other skills. I still am and will forever be a competitive gamer in some shape or form. Let's call it the "casual-competitive gamer" group lol. Basically your meat head football fan that still plays catch. If FFXIV is going for arena and open world styles of PvP, they better fucking do it right. Their company is dying, having a strong PvP scene is a must. They got the awesome FF Lore, they probably will have the PvE down pat, but I have very little faith in developers to create a great PvP game. We've seen so many of them fail over and over. If a title like this has structured PvP that has a high skill ceiling and plenty of depth for special tactics then we're looking at a pretty awesome game. This could be said for any game, but I really want FFXIV to have it... yeah I'm that biased.

Eh, there were about 20k people at least got 3102ed, with majority of them coming from the server crash Saturday late night. Basically if you dc while zoning you screwed.
Can't say it was a smooth beta, but it was better than I expected despite getting locked out a whole day on main account.

What exactly was the 3102 error? A bug like that sounds just normal to me since we can still use the beta excuse, but of course that CANNOT happen during launch. I never ran into any bugs at all while playing. I even did some exploring and fiddling around just to see if the game was clunky at all but nothing major appeared. I just hope that the QA guys did a lot of research on what we expect from a big title MMORPG. because there's always going to a group of people who are super nit picky, more so than the reasonable nit pickers, that you'd have to satisfy in order to have a successful game.

It's a bug that I've had happen to me in every MMO at some point. People were logging off, and there character wasn't logging out correctly, so they were unable to log back in. It's something they'll fix, and I don't think is a big deal. It's unfortunate that some people were unable to play because of it, but when people write stuff on reddit like "I CANCELLED MY PREORDER BECAUSE OF 3102", it's clear they won't or they never pre-ordered in the first place.
On a side note, I love FF14. The only things I dislike are little things that are supposed to be getting updated soon, like the gear comparing (seeing how much Int is on new piece vs old piece). Little things like that which I'm pretty sure Yoshi has already commented about.
|
If you buy the game now, do you get the first month free? I imagine you do, since every MMO the last 5 years has been like that, but I can't actually see that it says so anywhere, not on SEs homepage, not on amazon, the wiki, or any other retailer.
I've seen in a few places that the people with old FFXIV accounts get the first month free, does this only apply to them?
|
No matter when you buy the game it comes with 1 month free sub.
People with 1.0 get 2 weeks free as welcome back.

Do you have a source on this? Like I said, I assumed it was this way, but I would like to see it in writing before deciding to purchase.
Also, does anyone know if it matters if you buy the game from the US or the EU webstore? Am I able to play on both US and EU servers regardless, or are US and EU separated?

I was able to pick from US, EU, and JP servers. The only limitation was population being too high means you can't add a character to a server for a while.

I can't find any source on first month free, but I'm 99% sure that is the case. You can always wait for the game to be available in store and it should be on the box if you want to be 100% certain.
There is no server restriction. You can join the same server no matter if you buy jp/eu/na version, but remember that the version of the game you buy will only work with SE account of same region. If you have a NA account, EU registration code will not work. In addition, there is no separate PC / PS3 version, so if you plan to use both, it make sense to buy a PS3 version as you can always download the PC client for free (you cannot DL PS3 client without buying a PS3 game).

I was changing zones and it DCed me and I kept getting error 3012 when trying to log back in. I think they don't have an auto kick feature for AFKs.

Game is totally worth getting. I am almost positive there is a free month when you purchase. Also if you preorder on amazon you get $10 credit back so the game is essentially $20 on amazon.

Wow people were crying about something like that? There's no way they've played the Legacy version then. I didn't even acknowledge that error when it happened to me since it's such a trivial issue. This is funny since I had no idea what 3102 was and I mentioned in the same post that people will be unreasonably nitpicky about things. Of course in some cases people are just ignorant which is perfectly ok and not their fault, but cmon... the next barcraft I go to I'll go out of my way to straighten someone out if I hear something similar.
EDIT: the way I dealt with it was to step away from the computer for a few minutes, to let the server process the data, and then re-login. I can see how it could be frustrating if you sat there and just kept trying to do it over and over.

Fun game so far, has a lot to offer. Hopefully the combat/gameplay becomes a bit more dynamic at higher levels, as long as it does, I feel it will be a very fun MMO to play. My only issue is I'm not credited as a Legacy account, despite meeting all the requirements.

It did happen in original but it was minor as it frees up after a couple min (10-15 max). Though I did have a friend who was stuck in game after DC for a week, only resolved after multiple GM intervention.
What happened in Beta was that once you are stuck, you are out of luck until they finally fixed it earlier today, which means many people were locked out for 20-40 hours, so it does warrant some outcry.

It's funny as my alt is not credited as well, even though I had it active about as long as main account, which did have legacy. Sucks I have to pay 3 bucks extra to keep an alt lol

Seems like this error only applies for the NA/EU servers. My character was on for 2 days straight and I never DC'd or got any error apart from me closing the game myself.

Assuming that there is content there.. It wouldn't be the first time that an MMO launches with next to none, or poorly implemented end game. AoC anyone?

I emailed em, gonna see if I can get t hem to fix it, lol. Can't imagine it takes more from them than clicking a button that flags me as Legacy.
Just a shame I spent like... $120+ on this game (CE & monthlies) and can't get that button clicked

Since they had considerable max level content from original release, which TBH was the best part about 1.0, a good portion of that can be ported fairly easily.
Also consider that SE will somehow keep all the legacy char already maxed out on all job occupied, I don't think SE would release with so little content that users new to 2.0 need to worry about content.

Yes, it only affected NA/EU data centers, JP were not affected.

My review playing in the open beta Saturday and Sunday. Leveled a Thaumaturgist(19), Weaver(15), Botanist(10).
LOVE the IP, MMOs for me need a familiar universe to draw me in, GW2, Rift and Tera failed this for me.
The music is great, characters and environments are beautiful.
Standard MMO functions were all intact, Inventory felt clunky though well intentioned. I have always been a fan of horizontal progression so the multiple job concept excites me.
Needs an auto-sort function.
Not having to play the aquire bag mini-game is unbelievably refreshing.
Item comparison needs to be better specifically comparing INT and stuff, not being able to compare during quest reward selection was infuriating
Questing was below average for me, standard quests trumped by WoW, story quest less polished than GW2, but more interesting to me.
Crafting - LOVED production crafting, totally engaging fun experience, adding complexity as i got higher level kept me hooked. Botany seemed tedious to me, progression seeming fairly useless(to LVL 10). Gathering will depend on getting more complex or how it interacts with decoupled production trades.
Dungeons - Standard newbie dungeons, will reserve judgement on tank and spanks for newbie dungeons until i see true endgame mechanics. I discovered im a limit break hog.
Thaumaturgist Battle Mechanics - 2.5s GCD will take some getting used to after the action RPGs of WoW/ GW2/ Neverwinter. Fire/Ice relationship seemed a bit extreme, but I assume I should share some of the blame due to poor rotation and speccing. Elemental weakness/resists are an opportunity missed but I understand why it can't happen in MMOs. I feel the class will get fleshed out with leveling and support classes.(i.e. getting Scathe filled a huge hole in the gameplay) Thunder feels underwhelming but maybe it's DOT just needs to be shown in the scrolling combat text.
Economy - Reserving judgement. Obviously needs time to see if the gil generation/sinks even out. Wasn't able to test the AH. Worried about how gathering fits in to the economy - never felt necessary. 5 hours of grinding Botany probably wouldn't have saved me 1000 gil nor did I need it to stock up on the massive amount of crystals I was getting through questing.
8/10(needing polish) in my books, so I'm giving it 4 months of my time and money. See you guys on Exodus!
Edit: Bugs: no gamebreaking bugs between me or my 4 friends. I did lose sound for lvl 14-15 of my story quest that was fixed with a client restart, was able to re-watch the cutscene at an inn too.
