Not too much, are you using an nvidia card or AMD? Your FPS can vary greatly from server to server. Some servers I get extremely bad FPS and some my FPS is pretty smooth. Also, when a lot of zombies are aggro'd your FPS will drop immensely due to the inefficiencies in AI pathing.
I noticed changing my in-game settings had little to no effect on my FPS with the exception of anti aliasing. I run zero AA in-game, shadows set to off, and post processing off. Shadows didn't make much of a noticeable difference and improves performance and post processing just gives me a bad blur that makes it more difficult to identify zombies/hostile. All other settings are maxed out. My FPS ranges from like 10's to 60's fps depending on situation for this game.
edit: i read somewhere that this game doesn't like vsync, but I've tried both forced on and off in my nvidia control panel but it didn't make much of a difference so I left it on to reduce screen tearing. YMMV
For reference, here's my system specs taken from my TL stream page/twitch page which should be pretty up to date + Show Spoiler +Computer Specs: Processor: Intel Core i7 980x 4.4Ghz Overclock Graphics Card: nVidia GTX 670 2Gb x2 SLI RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16Gb 1600 HDD: Dual Western Digital 10,000RPM Raptor (RAID0) Western Digital 1Tb HDD (Media Storage) Cooling: Custom Watercooled Loop Keyboard: Saitek Eclipse Mouse: Logitech Mx518 Mouse Pad: Intel Extreme Series Mousepad

Can somebody bump this when alpha is done and they move on to beta? I've already wasted enough time trying to get it to work properly and after reading so many people losing chars to glitches I don't want to play untill the stability improves a bit. It looks like a game I'll enjoy, if it ever works for me at all ever.
I've been having the barren wasteland spawn, the invisible glitch, and some other random oddities. I think I'll have to reinstall the entire game and I'm just not feeling motivated to do that at the moment.

debug forest and hopefully wasteland spawn is supposedly getting patched within 24hrs. Ill believe it when it stops happening to me though lol

ugh, i spend a few hours today gathering shit. i log back in and i fall from the sky to my death, what a waste of fucking time

i love this game but this alpha state kinda sux. that's why i`m playing less and less waiting for the beta or even the real deal.

Hey fellas, i know one of your members (turkey or chibigoat?) - directed me here for help.
I'm in a bit of a bind. I'm in Lopatino hiding out in a small shed beside the tall red colored industrial building. I have 5k blood and need a bandage after getting attacked. May also be sick (heard coughing before i logged out). Anyone close by that can help?

God so aggravating, keep getting back stabbed.... fucking vicious cycle because now I'll never trust a random.

does anyone often play on GMT adjusted servers?
one lucky day when 1.7.1 came out i was able to play nearly all night on low-lag, daylight servers, it's awesome!
but as of 1.7.1.5 when i try searching for filter "GMT" a handful of low-ping servers come up but they're all either not adjusted or only by a few hours, because every server is in pitch black night.
anyone have tips for finding sweet GMT adjusted servers? i like this game a lot i just wish i could play it in the evenings.
|
What happened to all the night servers, every server i join is day time, i waited all day to play it in night time... wtf servers
|
Anyone willing to help?

I feel like I just end up killing people out of not trusting them. I get what I need, then they're useless to me.
Yeah, I'm a selfish asshole lol

This game is a lot less fun when you start with nothing. It take so long running around helpless to find a weapon. I have had more fun lately flying the helicopters and driving cars around in the ArmaII armory lately. DayZ is really fun when you have some items to play with.
If you want to stick with reality there is no way to punish or know who is a bandit. As far as achieving your goals of getting good gear, it make sense to kill every person you can. Removing guns from the start doesn't change this. It makes it even easier to kill people and take their stuff, by making them no threat to you. A major reason to not kill someone is even if you kill them you will often get shot and lose blood and medical supplies. Now it is safer and smarter to kill other beggining players.
It is really boring to spend so much time finding the basic gear. Especially when it is so easy to get killed by a bug or a hack. Running around for an hour with nothing sucks. I don't want to waste that much time hoping I find something to play with.
edit: I downgraded to 1.7 and had fun gunning some zombies down and finding lots of gear in houses. Fortunately there are still 1.7 servers. It is amazing how much food/ammo there are in houses in 1.7. It is the version of the game I paid $30 to play. Too bad lots of DayZ fans are elitist assholes that think everything should be as difficult and time consuming as possible

honestly, there's no reason at all to kill new players unless you are hoarding away hundreds of painkillers and hatchets for a rainy day lol, it literally isn't worth the bullets to grief someone's 10 minute old character.
as for gearing up, sounds like a personal issue. the looting process ramps up pretty quickly, once you have a hatchet you can actually defend yourself, once you have a find a pistol you can venture into a city, and once you have some decent gear and adequate medical supplies, you can tackle the north.
dunno, if you can't stand walking around in the world the game is definitely not a good fit for you. walking around and soaking up the environment is a huge part of the game. maybe you would enjoy yourself more if you utilized alt+looking around your character while you hike in the wilderness. look out for bandits and towns and dear stands and vehicles, the world has so much to offer it honestly doesn't get that boring THAT fast unless you are just wandering aimlessly in the middle of nowhere.

There are plenty of reasons to kill new players. Stopping them from collecting the loot in the area. If you let someone by then when you hear noises of players you don't know if it is that helpless player or another player looking to kill you. Plus the fun of being the tough guy and putting your gear to use. I got shot today when all I had was my starting bandage. I understand that when you get some gear you can explore more areas, and go more places. I played 30 hours of 1.7 before the patches. I like walking around a lot, I use alt a ton. I very much enjoy the experience of walking through the woods looking carefully for people who might ambush me. I just need a way to interact with the world. If running away is my response to everything, then that is pretty boring. It feels like if they changed SC2 so you start with one drone and no minerals, you get to the same place eventually. It is just more boring and time consuming.

How am I supposed to make progress in this game? I start off without guns -- to find guns I have to fight zombies since they usually guard the good spots, but there is no way to fight them without a gun.
I managed to stumble into a gas station earlier. There I found a hatchet and some empty cans, but I couldn't find a way to use the hatchet as a weapon?
Damn they should at least give us a knife or something when we start, this is annoying as hell. Am I supposed to run to a place where I can find a gun then shoot my way out?
