It's kinda not realistic cause in a real survival situation you'd want to be on guard but also willing to cooperate with others to maximize chance of survival. The game has already devolved into a deathmatch since they took out the bandit skins you get if you kill players. Now there's no telling if someone's a murderer or not. But there is still group play with ppl from forums like TL or with your rl friends. Just don't expect to go it alone and make many friends in game.
On another note, today a gang of 4 of us from TL went to Stary Sobor and found a DMR, M14, M24, MP5, G17's, and various AK's. Best loot I've ever seen in one area. Ah I see >< imo maybe introduce some incentive to cooperate others (I don't have any good suggestions honestly but they're out there somewhere).
Well, if I ever manage to get a computer that doesn't suck on ice, I will consider joining a TL group--the game does sound pretty interesting.

Hmm. You guys are talking about a military camp near Stary Sobor ? Are you talking about the NW Airfield or a camp closer to the city ? Where is it relative to the city ? Planning to go there tomorrow.

Downloaded this today. Can't wait to check it out. Having some issues with the install. Followed the instructions for the non-steam version, so now I have to figure out how to undo whatever I did. lol.

I had that issue like three times over. Persistence is key ^_^

Well today I was in electro in the townhall and I saw on the bottom floor and he hid and I asked friendly? He told me he was friendly and that he was gonna leave and let me do my thing but when I was on the top floor he tried to shoot me so I ran around and shot him up with my AKM from the back down the hall he then told me "I scared him before please stop shooting". I laughed fuck trusting this joker again... I guess he thought I was on the roof because he ran out onto the roof and looked up as I was running around the roof to shoot him from the back and he was on the roof in front of me and not inside as I expected. I shot him a bit more and then he finally died as he was running back inside to hide in the room from blood loss. I was looking for a compass and matches because that was all I needed to head north as I was planning and thankfully he had both . As I was leaving someone else tries to take some pot shots at me as I ran through a field. Thank god he was a terrible shot and missed so I could zig zag and get into the forest to the north. It was like a 400 meter run in open field to get there... My blood was pumping like crazy never felt that much of a rush in a game before.
I'm always 100% friendly unless there is a bandit skin on the guy. I usually try to avoid people like the plague in general unless I am just spawning or they are on the TL TS. It just is so hard to trust anyone... I mean there is no reason to not shoot someone. Especially when they see my half decent set up. G17, AKM, Alice Pack is really tempting for some people.

Yeah, that thing installs it. Dr. Wasteland MD was actually on our server earlier, though we weren't in any need of medical attention.

My most intense and exciting day yet:
I log in near Stary. It's night time and absolutely tipping down with rain. Good time for scavenging. So I head into the military tents for awesome uber loot. Found mostly a bunch of Remis and ammo for them, so not really all that fruitful, as I already had my AK74 Kobra with 3 mags, my AKM in my backback with 4 mags and my M9SD with about 4 too. Anyway, I get worried when someone in chat starts calling people out in Stary, then I hear sniper shots and see kill messages up on screen. The sniper can't be shooting anyone near me, as I thoroughly checked the tent area for survivors before approaching. He must be shooting people in town.
I make my first mistake now. I alt-tab out to reposition my map, which is open in chrome, so that I can get a good look at all the decent sniper spots. As I tab back in, my weapon (Kobra) fires off a shot automatically and alerts about 4 or 5 nearby zeds. That's the least of my worries right now. So I stay inside one of the tents and wait for them to come to me. I take out all of them except one with my M9SD, just hoping that the sniper didn't hear that shot, or at least can't place it's origin. The last zed is stuck outside the tent, being a bit stubborn, so I shift a bit towards the entrance to try and get him unstuck. Unfortunately, he manages to get a single hit off onto me through the corner of the tent, which knocks me unconscious (I was at 10k blood btw). So I'm stuck there, watching him eat my brains while my blood flows out of me like water from a tap. The hourglass is taking forever. By a stroke of luck, I come to with only 250 blood and pop off the 3-4 necessary shots to take him down with my sidearm. I've never been alive with such low blood before. I'm passing out every 15-30 seconds. I check my pack for beans. Only one can. Up to 450 blood now, which isn't much help at all. I probably should have waited till I was actually hungry to eat those, as it's most likely gonna take a long time for me to get some meat.
Not forgetting the sniper, I crawl out of town via the north-east treeline and thankfully escape his notice. I haven't heard any shots in a minute or so and chat has been quiet, so I assume he's either looting his fresh kills, or repositioning to get view on the tents. I doubt he would leave so soon after killing at least 4 players in Stary.
As I hit the larger forest at the north of the town, I realize that I've done it. I've made it out alive. Despite hitting 250 blood and fainting constantly; despite zombies and a sniper intent on killing every thing that moves, I'm alive. Now I need food. And lots of it.
I get up and run, as far as I can get between each bout of unconsciousness. I head west, through all the fields I can see with my hazy and limited vision. Success! I find a goat. Only 3 slabs of meat, but I'm not complaining. I've made it above 2k blood, but I need to get at least 3k more, if I'm to stop fainting. I continue west. I find a crashed heli site just north of Rogovo and spend a good amount of time, sneaking up to it, taking out the zombies (there were surprisingly many around it. At least 8 that I could see) silently with the M9SD. I finally make it through to the wreckage, but it's so badly damaged that I can't even get inside it, let alone access any of the epic items that should have been there waiting for me. None of the Zeds dropped anything for me either. Still, I can't complain about luck just now, given my recent survival.
A little way south of Pustoshka, I find a cow in a field, but there are 4 zeds nearby and I don't have much SD ammo at this point, so I throw down a flare in the middle of them, hoping to group them all up, so I can get a better look at them and for easier headshots. I really don't want to alert any of them, as I'm still passing out randomly. 4 slow, painstaking headshots later, I've cleared the area and the cow is now mine for the taking. I eat my 8 slabs of meat for 6.4k blood. I'm back in business.
Testing my luck even further, I head back towards Stary Sobor and head towards the supermarket, as I'm pretty dehydrated now. All goes well and I end up inside the supermarket, but there's no loot spawned at all. What is this? Then, as if the gods of New Chernarus have decided to teach me a lesson about pushing my luck, a zombie spawns right in front of me as I'm leaving the store. It spots me and starts screaming in my face and trying to hit me as I back up deep into the store again. It's a fairly safe spot, so I open up on him with my Kobra. Big mistake. I manage to alert the whole town with just those 2 shots and end up cutting down over 80 zeds, using most of my AK and AKM ammo in the process. Phew, I survived that with no problems and even managed to get a drink off one of the fallen many. All I need now is to restock my ammo. Where better than the tents at Stary Sobor? I make my way there quickly, not having to worry about alerting any more zeds, as I just spent my precious rounds on dispatching them all a minute ago. To my dismay, all the tents are empty. No ammo for me. There are two dead survivor bodies, unlooted. I take what I can make use of from these poor fellows and quickly, but quietly make my way up to the north treeline yet again. No sign of the killer, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same sniper as earlier.
I breath a sigh of relief as I reach the forest again and log off. I live to survive another day.

How long should it take to join a server? I am trying to play for the first time and it always seems to get stuck at waiting for server response or something. I don't know how long I should wait before giving up. Does it just take a while? Or is something wrong?
edit: Also it seems to stop around 85% of receiving data when I try and load.

it just takes a while, let it do its thing

From nothing to seemingly everything (again)!
So after running around Cherno and not finding a damn thing I find myself being chased by like 8 zombies with very little ammo left for my Makarov. I killed all but one, and all I had was one bullet left. I didn't want to use it unless I absolutely had to (I get cornered or something) so I just zig-zagged until I eventually lost agro of the last zombie. I think.. I ran NW of Cherno? Something like that. But yea, I ran in SOME direction and found myself at what I think was a Fire Station.
So get this, I come across two guys that are actually duking it out with one another. There's no way I could have taken either of them on because one had a Winchester and the other I wasn't sure about, so I ran past them and made it to the ladder of this giant tower that they were pretty much fighting for control of. They were too busy shooting at eachother to have even noticed me..or have cared? ONE of the two! I climbed all the way to the top and I found nothing but a bunch of car parts. I decided to wait until they ran off before I made my way back down as it wasn't safe.
So it gets quiet right, and I'm thinking fucking-a one of them finally killed the other and here he comes up the stairs to kill me and check for loot. Lucky me I've held on to the last bullet in my last clip for such crazy situation occasion to occur =]. I can hear him climbing the ladder, but I have the advantage of seeing him first before he can see me. As soon as his head popped up I took the shot and he fell to his death. I made my way down and looted them both where I found a Winchester, a M4A1 with a few clips, a Revolver with a ton of ammo, an Uzi with no ammo sadly, just about every utility item there is with the exception of NVG's, and an Alice pack. Fiiiinally a stroke of luck! Now I can safely make my way back towards the NE Airfield =D

Noob question: What happens if you die? Do you have to start the game all over again?
|
On May 29 2012 16:34 tenacity wrote: Noob question: What happens if you die? Do you have to start the game all over again? Yes, the game is based around permadeath, when a character dies it's gone forever and you have to make a new one.

I think I finally installed correctly, but when I join a server I keep getting stuck on "Receiving Data". Is this normal? Anyone experience it before?

Usually it can take anywhere between 30seconds to 5minutes to load into a server.
I noticed it took especially long the first time due to having to create a character. To get around that i just loaded that up on a near empty server then jumped onto one that was during daytime.

I had a friend have a problem with it that was similar and it turned out to be something wrong with battleeye, the anti-cheat system. Not sure how he fixed it, but I can ask him later if you still get stuck on that specific screen.
