1 ) Are we not supposed to start with at least a small gun?
2) Can we use the hatchet as a weapon ? ( It seems to be usefull only to chop woods, did not succeed trying to equip it as a weapon)
3) Any tips to localise a " deer stand" ? ( I tried this map for general location http://i.imgur.com/ZmQMJ.jpg ) but I have a hard time identifying my own location . Are they far into the woods or can they be spotted from the road?
Kinds Regards for any help
1. You used to start with a weapon, now we don't (tentatively, but rocket seems to like it so far so it might stay)
2. right click hatchet once you scroll wheel to pick it up, do remove from toolbelt, it will take your primary weapons slot (i.e. don't do it if you don't have a primary weapon equipped)
3. deer stands are always at the very edge of a treeline, where the forest meets open plains. it's hard to find your own position, but if you have a map you can shift-right click a location and it will waypoint that location (on some servers, true of TL servers) so you can try to get your bearings that way. Otherwise you just have to look at treelines, plains, buildings, etc and guess it. But deerstands are always on the boundary between woods and plains.
why i love DayZ... it has shown me exactly to what extremes people are willing to go to survive. Noone can predict how they would act when they were facing annihilation

You decline my request for honorable 1v1 hatchet fight, so i decide i should just throw flares, and so i did like a beast and then out of nowhere you kill me.

I will get my revenge on you, just wait.

Ghazi was with me, he wasn't involved in that.
Ok, i trust you.
Im coming for you other guys.
Please do because I could use a good gunfight. Taking bandages does get old after awhile. BTW we left your body so you could go get it back if you wanted.
Just had such a blast in DayZ :D... Me and my friend were running around with severe dehydration aswell as starvation, trying to find food and drinks desperately, we both ended up dying.
I spawn in Drakon and he spawns in Kamenka, basically the two opposite sides... I head for the powerplant near Elektro and sneak up on 3 people, there were loads of dead bodies nearby (I didn't have any weapon, so I simply watched them run around, didn't really care if I was gonna die). They noticed me so I ran for it, they opened fire (but luckily missed me). As my heart was pounding I ran all I could and hid in some bushes, I don't see them coming and 5 seconds later I hear gunfire. I wait a few minutes and then go back, there were more dead bodies by now... Apparently everybody are gone so I check the military building but find nothing. As I try to get down from the building I manage to fall down and break my leg, aswell as lose 5k blood.
I thought "Fuck this, my friend is so far away, I'll just run into Elektro and see what I can find". There were dead bodies in every building I entered, I didn't manage to find anything really as everything seemed to be looted already. I went to the supermarket and found 2 Czech backpacks, picked up one of them and moved on to the next building (unsure of what it's called.. either way I was in some hallway when I noticed a dead body laying there - with a weapon on it!
I moved forward to him and it seemed like I couldn't loot him, moved around abit and went into prone, and I could then loot him. He had an Alice Pack, AKM with 3 mags, Map and some more things such as food. I picked it all up and decided I'd run the hell away from Elektro and try head for my friend (we'd meet up at Balota). I manage to make it out of the city unharmed, and with my newfound map I start heading for Balota Airstrip.
As I run around in the middle of nowhere (or so I thought) I see a person down in a barn. I slowly make my way down there and as fast as I got sight of him again, I fired. A few shots onto him and he was dead, my heart was pumping and I just thought "fuck yeah!". I moved on to loot him, he didn't have any good weapon at all, in fact all he had was a Hatchet, but he did have ONE thing that I needed - a blood bag! I kept moving for Balota but found a small little place I thought I'd loot before moving on, after checking the map it's located slightly northwest of Vysota (or well, Cherno :D..).
I move into the smallest building first and find a Lee Enfield with 4 mags on it, I decided I'd switch my AKM out and pick the Enfield up and then have my friend come and pick my AKM up. As we are both new to this game, we have a hard time navigating. After 30 minutes of trying to get him on the right road he's finally on the way.
As I sit and wait idle in the forest for my friend to come, suddenly I hear gunfire! I look down at the buildings I had just looted and see a person there. He had just looted the AKM I left for my friend, he moves into a long building and I follow him. My heart was pounding, I couldn't see him at first but as I peek inside a window I can see him looting something on the ground.
I quickly stand up and shoot him with the Enfield - nothing happens at first but then I get an additional murder. I run the hell away to get rid of some zombies and then make my way back to loot him, his corpse wasn't left and there were no fly sounds. I check the next building and his body was laying there instead (really weird). He has an additional bloodbag on him which I pick up, aswell as some Binocs and a pistol which was useful, with an additional map that my friend could have used. I left the AKM on him so that my friend could pick it up.
5 Minutes later, when my friend is almost here, the server goes down. When we get back on, the corpse is gone together with the AKM... Pretty sad but oh well, my friend makes his way to me and I give him the pistol so he has a weapon. It turns out he was hurt aswell, so we were both sitting at 7k Blood. We both bloodbag each other up and were pleasantly surprised how colorful the game was when we were back at 12k blood!
And that's it for this gaming session! Can't wait to get back on again and find some more players to kill and perhaps better gear :D!
EDIT: Wow... seems there's no way to write a short writeup of a Dayz play session haha!
Holy shit, fist time playing - find that town kamenka. Zombie starts to chase me, i try to open the doors and i cant "shit im dead" and then I see another player like me without weapons or anything, so I run past him hoping he picks up the zombies aggro and he does - voila I survive haha, I love this game...

Now if only i knew how to open doors rofl
Only certain doors can be opened. Others are just painted on.
Use mouse scroll wheel when a green < l > icon appears. On the left should be an "Open Door" option.
sigh.... My bicycle just disappeared for the second time. Gone, wasn't where I put it, and I am sure no one took it, just like last time. I saved it, 100%. Has this happened to anyone else with bicycles or vehicles?

I believe the "enter/return" key allows you to do the same thing.
Ugh this seems so hard... the only time I actually found a weapon (Hatchet) I was yelled at my two guys to start running, they then led zombies to me, I had no idea how to play (still don't), so I got raped before I could even figure out how to equip the thing, instead i threw chem lights... Then everytime I spawn I try to sneak in to find something only to find shells, then 30 zombies... so I get chased all over whilst attracting more zombies... any advice?

Don't worry, that is EVERYONE'S first experience. Right after the 'fuck this game, it's too hard/stupid, zombies OP, etc' feelings, that's when you start to really see the beauty in the game as you learn through your own experiences about how to do things, what to do, and what not to do. Basically if you get zombie aggro, just run and find a building with 2+ entrances, you can lose them super easy just by running through a building. You can also lose them by running through thick brush, or pine trees. General rule is crouch run in town and crouch walk when very close to zombies. You'll get the hang of it
Oh, and to equip a hatchet: right click the hatchet in your inventory and then 'remove from toolbelt'.
* [NEW] Respawn button is disabled during DayZ play * [NEW] Optimized authentication process on login * [NEW] Singleplayer mode disabled when DayZ is loaded * [NEW] DayZ Logo and Version Number appear in game when DayZ is loaded * [NEW] Hive now tracks login/logout (for use with preventing ALT+F4) * [FIXED] Infected cannot hear weapon firing (now they actually hear again) * [FIXED] Clothing no longer spawning (now it spawns as it used too)
Check the source link to see the most up to date list as Rocket said he hopes to include more changes in the patch as they are finished up (but not quite complete as of right now).

Lol thanks a lot man, Ive found out that I can just swim up close to the shore, and when the zombie walks away i make a break for seaside buildings, ended up getting some decent stuff, so now I have a makarov and a hatchet (lol just love the hatchet). I find that the island with the lighthouse is a good hiding spot too haha.. just takes like 30 minutes to swim to it, its impossibru to penetrate, maybe someone should make it a cache
