If you've never played Total War i feel for you.

I have, and every game I've played so far (Rome, Empire, Napoleon and Shogun 2) left me with mixed feeling. I really enjoyed the TBS part of it all, but the real-time battles were a little to slow to my liking. It looks epic and all, but in the end I end up resolving 99% of all battles automatically.

New beta patch upped StuG cost from 200/50 to 400/85 (and doubled damage to compensate). That's a welcome buff for the Soviet early armor phase, which used to be miserable due to T-34/76 losing to StuG 1on1 while (previously) costing more.

Infantry now move at normal speed when it gets cold. Which is quite a good change.

How do you deal with infantry blobbing these days? Mass conscript just seems to be ridiculous with hit the deck and their ppsh upgrades. It's so cheap to upgrade ppsh that you can throw infinite anti tank nades if they do the natural scout car counter ^_^

MG42s, I usually go gren, mg, gren, mg, sniper and maybe a mortar, then T2. Can usually stay in T2 for a long time since T1 and T2 has good anti infantry and anti tank capabilities.

Panzergrens do amazing up close with their mp44s and the LMG42 upgrade on grenadiers is amazing vs conscripts.

Great video for Ostheer play too.

I want to counter blob play not play it ^_^ Blobbing is pretty terrible versus competent people. Maybe I just need to micro the scout cars better since they outrange antitank nades.

Also that video is extremely cringe worthy. When your strategy involves things like don't make MGs because you have to know where to set them up for them to be effective ^_^

He didnt say dont make MGs. he said that they are harder to use that standard rifle squads but they counter blobs amazingly well. He still uses two of them in his build.

The idea that you should use an inferior opening instead of learning how to place MGs in a strategy show is just utter idiocy. I would prefer a strategy video that gives you some tips on how to place MGs effectively than telling me how hard it is and that I should just cop out and blob infantry.

Also I'm sick of MMing making me play level 1s. If anybody wants to 1v1 add CloudMephisto please.

That would be a good idea for a video however MG use is something you only become proficient at by playing and using them a lot.

The Scout car is also not a great anti infantry unit btw in fact, it's much more useful at killing light vehicles such as M3s and Katusyha Rocket Trucks.

i just managed to throw away a force of 5 t34s against some panzergrenadiers because i forgot to bring up my infantry, but we still won

The scout car with the 20mm upgrade is horrible without vet against infantry compared to the PE AC in COH1. The AC was a meat grinder regardless of vet. I'm not saying it should be that way, just comparing the two since they are essentially the same vehicles.

Any TL members want to play some games, against AI, 1v1 or whatever else? Lack of a gamelist lobby makes it difficult to get some random games going. And still not accustomed to the COH2 UI and hotkeys, it just feels different to COH1. I pre-ordered it ages ago but only played a few hours or probably less.

Can someone tell me how to use the building that is supposed to be placed in a secured zone? Or do you actually have to place 1 out of the 2, and if you do place 1 the other cant be used anymore?
Btw im really enjoying this game, are there any bunkers u can place on waypoints? what building is that ?
Terran in particular is a notoriously strong race for a no brain skillhand bot style.

you have to decide whether you want the ammo or the fuel upgrade on a point, can't do both on one point. but you are able to place multiple ones around the map

With the nerf on Flamethrowers it's actually not a bad idea to spam Grens with LMGs. There's no real solid counter to it other than expending alot of MP on Snipers/MGs/Mortars supported by Conscripts, and that delays your tech big time (which is one of the big advantages SU players have right now).

I haven't read-up on this game at all, and was just going to learn it all the painful way: when I eventually bought it after release. My friend who I played CoH with got me a beta key, though, so I'll be installing when I get home and likely playing tomorrow. How is it so far, guys? Do you think they can change the apparently bad Doctrine system? Sounds like the map mechanics are fine, just the current maps are crap. Anywhere you recommend I can start reading-up on it before jumping in, or will the tutorial be fine for me?

This game is quite different from CoH1 in terms of pacing. Matches are overall faster, you lose shit faster (losing an entire infantry squad to one mortal shell is not at all uncommon) and have less margin for error. Balance is a bit flaky at the moment, early game slightly favors Soviets while the late game massively favors the Germans. The cold mechanic splits opinions, I think they should remove the freezing deaths, so blizzards would only slow down infantry and limit visibility.
