So let's establish some facts here from these scans plus other information gleaned. It's using the Hero Engine, which is shit. It's set a thousand years before anything, so that most likely means some extremely fucking stupid lore changes as always happens when developers of a popular genre change the timetable drastically. And the icing on the cake? It's a fucking Guild Wars 2 clone, the first of its kind. I didn't even know this could be possible. But just look, they're making the same damn promises. I was so bamboozled by this. "Instead of the typical questing design that MMO players intuitively recognize - go to down, pick up quests, complete quests, return to town for reward - The Elder Scrolls Online aims to allow players to enjoy whatever piques their interest as they wander the world" "Townsfolk naturally point players toward some adventures" "a moderate break from the traditional tank/healer/damage "holy trinity" "We can just make every ability really cool, and how you build your 'hand' in advance is what defines you" "currently equipped weapon determines the first two slots" They also have cross-class combos. Even the god damn combo example they used (warrior whirlwind inside the fire wall) is the exact same combo ArenaNet used 1-2 years ago to showcase combos in GW2, complete with the flying projectile fireballs and inferno. I'm not going to count this game out, it can be fucking boss. I never count a game out before I give it an appropriate chance, however, let's just look at the facts. This game will be using the Hero Engine with what appears to be WoW aesthetics that is blatantly copying GW2's promises. Now let me be clear, I'm a staunch defender in the practice of taking something that works in something and applying it to everything in an industry because it's clearly fun and effective. However, I can't help but feel a bit queezy about this. I'm excited, but EXTREMELY cautious. EDIT: But let me be clear, I'm hyped for GW2 for a reason. If they can mimic it CORRECTLY and add a creative and personal flair to it, I will be fully behind this. A lot of what they describe in that article looks pretty fucking cool and exciting. However, for now, I have to have my guard up is all.

I was hoping it would just be the Skyrim engine in a bigger world with multiplayer (PvP battles and coop questing), that would awesome. Not really interested in another WoW clone. e: from what you guys say, the producer made some other MMO (dark age of Camelot) that was not like WoW that featured RvR? I'm an mmo noob what is RvR? Am I missing something or is that just a flame bait post? Oh wait I just checked your post history... go back under the bridge It's a Guild Wars 2 clone because they are promising the same things. Here I'll quote another TL member who has already explained it. Also, Skyrim was so insanely buggy, and MMOs on release always are, it's very scary to think how many things will no doubt be broken.

But chances are you never played DAoC. Anyone who played that game in its glory days knows the how fantastic PvP can really be. WoW and its clones do not hold a candle to it. Do not write it off because of that. TES is great but that doesn't really matter. The chance that they can bring back RvR, and do it right, is what's exciting here. Oh god they better not mess this up. We've heard this song and dance two times already- with the actual Mythic team itself (WAR and SWTOR). Hey guys! We made DAOC! Our game will therefore give you PvP orgasms! Yeah, no. Just because one lead dev from DAOC is here and they have 3 factions is not a magic recipe for success. Especially when you consider this is the freaking Hero engine, the one that can only handle 8v8 Warzones and crawls to a giant clusterfuck on Ilum (and STILL does, 4 months later?) WAR already went through all of this. Didn't have 3 factions, but it had the entire Mythic team and an actual RvR system and city sieges. 3 factions wouldn't have saved WAR- because that engine was also total shit, and couldn't handle RvR at all.

I think the absence of the Mythic team is a good sign here. I'm not sure that Mythic as a whole understood what made their game enjoyable. They did a pretty good job of destroying what they had going in DAoC and then later WAR. When they weren't self-destructing they were just pretty sloppy in general. I know nothing of the Hero engine but I hope it's not as bad as everyone's making it out to be. I'll be keeping my head in the sand from here on out until release while I make believe that the successful return of the RvR MMO is upon us.

I honestly would quite like more games like TES series, Divinity 2, Gothic to have some multiplayer actually, but not MMO style, only cooperative capabilities, like Diablo but obviously a different kind of game. This news saddens me.

I'm actually glad that they are setting it 1000 years in the past though and that a different team is working on it. It won't mess with the rest of the series like how WoW basically makes Warcraft 4 impossible. It is unfortunate that a lot of the unseen areas of the world will probably get displayed in it. Hopefully Bethesda will just ignore those when they make the next game and just remake it however they see fit.
