The perfect RPG would be dark souls combat with Elder Scrolls Lore. . Was just going to post this. I honestly have a hard time playing RPGs ever since I played dark souls. Its combat system is nothing short of genius. That game could only ever sell to a subset of Dark Souls player and a subset of TES / general RPG players. That style of combat is fine in a game that is about combat. Dark Souls is made to do one thing, and one thing only, and that justifies giving that one thing a lot of depth. Giving combat that much depth in a different game would only deliver all the frustration and none of the satisfaction it had in the original. There are plenty of Skyrim mods that attempt to do the same thing, and in a lot of them combat looks really cool, fun and challenging for the first 10 minutes. But then after a brief honeymoon, you realize that having to pull deliberate tactics and precise timings to kill your 15th Wolf somewhere in the wilderness is nothing short of a hassle that wrecks the flow of the game and takes you out of character. Right now I don't know what The Elder Scrolls tries to be. The combat system has always been horrible but at least Morrowind compensated that by making an exciting world and main quest. Oblivion and Skyrim are plain boring. I mainly play Skyrim as a hiking simulator, and I've actually been wondering whether there is a console command that removes all enemies from the game.
There was an enormous amount of satisfaction when I managed to clear a cave or dungeon I was underleveled for in Morrowind. Usually I was rewarded by some pretty awesome loot as well. In Skyrim, there is no such thing. No way a lv10 character can find daedric weapons in any cave because loot is leveled, as are most of the enemies. If there is anything that Dark Souls proved, is that there is a sense of reward players get when beating an enemy or an area when all the odds are stacked against them, especially if the loot at the end of the dungeon is actually worth something. This is actually very easily implemented in an Elder Scrolls game. Basically you keep everything the same, but overhaul the combat system and remove that "monsters and items level with you"-nonsense. Combat against normal mobs isn't all that difficult in Dark Souls, it's the bosses and sometimes cheap traps that are difficult.

You realize there's a dozen mods for Skyrim to do just that deleveling or adjusting the leveling lists? Give one a try, maybe you'll like Skyrim more.

The problem is that very few have done combat right. ESO has done it better than WoW in that you dont have just abilities that auto targets enemies. You have active combat like in Guild Wars 2 but it feels a bit clunky and you forget to use active block and roll dodge cause of it. Its almost not needed. And also the feel of it doesnt feel right, there is no proper sound when you hit enemies and effects. Age of Conan did this the best i feel with blood and proper sound when you were hitting your target.
But yeah, Dark Souls melee system is perfect. Especially in an MMO its important that we have FUN when we do combat cause thats what we mainly do. I have no idea how ESO will do compared to Guild Wars 2, i feel both are pretty good MMO's but its not for me. I want more realistic combat that requires player skill.

I played a few hours with a mage and I dont like the game very much. I dont even understand what they want to achieve with it. Atmosphere is ruined because there a dozends of people running around but multiplayer is not possible because you dont have shared quests.

If you say so. I think target lock is way superior to action combat in an MMORPG environment. Action combat (as weird as it may sound) gets really really dull if you repeat it for thousands of hours because it doesn't support certain things well that target lock does. That being said: rotation based combat is very boring. But that has nothing to do with whether it is action or not. Look at gw2. It's action. But you basically spam skills on cool down (which is the most stupid version of rotation).

TESO has a light target lock for abilities too.

I don't get why more games don't try to implement TERA's combat. That was really fun, too bad the rest of the game wasn't all that.

I mean there are some hidden chests but in nontheless obvious spots. But most of it is just thrown at you. These Glyphe stones for example are all over the place. Oh and if you went to a new place there was allways a npc with a gather this and that or kill him quest.
Awesome exploration lives and dies with the atmosphere in a game and with players jumping around and enemies evenly distributed (which makes no sense why would they do that) this doesnt work. Btw. did I mention the invisible walls all over the place which make exploring a pain in the ass.

I like Tera combat too, and the visuals were sweet. But, yea I got bored with so much to read, and boring as hell quests.

Tera is the only MMO with decent action combat IMO. It becomes quite repetitive, but it was somewhat skillbased and new skills actually felt somewhat useful. I got bored of the game pretty quickly and I would assume raids etc are quite boring or at least weird in action-based combat MMOs, but elite mobs etc can be implemented in far more fun ways compared to tab-target MMOs.

Its basicly the same. Tera had abilities only and you had to aim and direct the abilities. Same as in Elder Scrolls Online except you have regular attacks and block on your mouse as well + you can roll dodge away from attacks. So it seems to me that Elder Scrolls Online has the most active system right now, then comes Guild Wars 2 and then Tera.

People shouldn't see this as " TES 6: the TES MMO", it's just a random MMO from a different studio that uses the TES IP for marketing reasons.
You might like the game because of the IP or the gameplay, but I don't see how it affects the actual TES series.
