And to be fair, I only remember two places where I had framerate issues on the PS3. One doesn't matter because there are no enemies around, and one can be fixed by killing the big thing that's causing the framerate drop. I'm not sure if there are other places where people had problems, or how it would perform on an older computer, but if you're interested in the game I don't think framerate problems is a reason not to try it, it really is an amazing experience.

There is bad news which could hit PC gamers pretty hit hard, though. While the frame-rate's rough edges have been filed down, you're still going to be playing at 30FPS out of the box, as widely rumoured. A graphics menu has been added in, but there are no obvious ways to raise the bar to the preferable 60FPS mark. Well, this kills it for me. I'm annoyed when games drop to 30 FPS, I won't play a game where 30 is the maximum. It was rumoured, I hoped it wouldn't be true, but it apparently is.
Last hope would be tweaks through some .ini files.

Hopefully, someone can create a mod that can change resolution to HD or something. I think a lot of the tweaks will be done by players not software.
30FPS is acceptable as long as it doesn't lag the fuck out like in blight town or anywhere else in the world.

30 FPS is hardly acceptable to most gamers especially not on PC.

With all these detail reveals, will have to wait on this...

I don't get the point of having high FPS. Your eyes can only recognize 29.97 or 30 fps, so the point of bragging about higher FPS is retarded.

So many times people post this, its like Im in some sort of internet comment machine where you see same thing every day Someone will probably reply to your post correcting you.
Will the PC version have improved graphics or will it be just like the console version ?

Wrong. Go ahead and cap sc2's fps at 30 for one game. Then put it at 60. Tell me you don't see a difference, and I'll call you a liar. I don't know where this rumor came from but it's false. We actually don't know how many true frames the eye can see per second because honestly it's all measured in real time. It also depends on how many frames are being skipped by the computer or if you have 1 frame in 1/15th of a second then another at 1/30th of a second it's going to look choppy because it's not all synchronized.

Sigh. I really don't feel like explaining this again. Suffice to say you are simply wrong, and it is very easy to distinguish between 30 FPS and 60 FPS, especially for faster moving objects. Our eyes "capture" 30 frames per second, yes, but that doesn't mean we can't recognize more than that. I suggest you go read a little about it or test to see for yourself (just make two balls, one with 30 fps, and one with 60 fps, disable motion blur for them and see the very visible difference in how smooth they are). You can see the difference between 60 FPS and 120 FPS as well (though not as clearly as 30 FPS and 60 FPS), however, most monitors don't have refresh rates that allow for 120 FPS.

Humm..
I liked Demon's souls for the PS3, and decided to hold off for dark souls since it's too similar and I may be interested in bashing monsters again once Dark souls comes out to PC.
But I can't see this game working - at all - for the PC due to the control scheme, movement, attacks etc are all built for a gamepad. On the PS3 the game was very slow-paced (artificially so even..) movement, attacks and combos were slow clunky and cumbersome - but it worked well for a gamepad controller which is what is what designed for, where looking around takes time, and movement isn't as precise.
Now picture them adding WASD, mouselook, rebindable keys and you can crank your efficiency, movement and reaction several 100% from a gamepad, which would clash with monsters attack patterns, and they would all have to be redesigned from the ground up which I don't think they will do. Instead, I think were looking at the same slow clunky combat mechanics, with the option of using WASD-mouse combo it wasn't designed for, and thus you'll find yourself locked in patterns and combos and slow unresponsive movement even though you have so much left untapped potential in the keyboard-mouse combination you will be tearing your hair out in frustration.
So I don't see it working, but I'll gladly be proven wrong and find that they've rewritten the entire combat-engine, animations and move- and attack-patterns for monsters and player and and genererally increased the games pace..
Or you could play it with a gamepad on the PC, but then, why play it on the PC?
Edit: Much discussion and worries over framerates, which is minor imo compared to control-scheme, but 30 frames is low with mouse freelook of course..

I assume that the frame-rates "Rough edges" being worked out means we'll be getting a better overall framerate then what I played on my friend's 360.
If that's the case you people really need to stop your bitching rofl, it's perfectly playable, even on the 360 with it's occasional framedrops.
Besides there'll probably be a 3rd party fix or tweak to circumvent the cap.

I haven't exactly done the math on this one but I'm gonna guess that a PC copy along with a gamepad won't cost me as much as buying the game along with a console to play it on.

^Well ya if you dont have a console then your better off buying it for pc.

He raises a good point though, I've caught myself wondering the same thing while playing the 360 version, thinking about how I'm gonna lay-out my keys and if I'm gonna buy a gamepad should it turn out to be neccesary. The 4 shoulder buttons are my main concern, I hate using anything other then the main left and right buttons when it comes to my mouse. Maybe they could add a combination key or something, left and right click would be a light attack and holding up your shield, while pressing either button while you're holding another button of your choice would result in a heavy attack and the parry.
Just a thought.

Because some people don't have a console!
Edit: ...yeah

Edit: Much discussion and worries over framerates, which is minor imo compared to control-scheme, but 30 frames is low with mouse freelook of course.. I've had these same feelings since it was announced, I just haven't found the time or energy to formulate them as you did. It definitely feels like it's meant to be play on console. Normally when I say that, it's just because I played a game first on console and enjoyed it immensely, so the pleasure of that experience gives me bias. But there have been cases where despite this, the PC port works very well. The Mass Effect series is a great example; I originally played the first two on Xbox and ME1 is one of my favorite games and experiences of all time. Now I own the whole franchise on PC and it's completely natural, even if it's "not the same".
This is a case where the speed and style of the engine will not translate as well to a mouse and keyboard. When you're handed the precision offered by PC controls, it feels extremely weird and clunky when the game is unresponsive. In this game, attacks and animations can be long and laborious. If you're whipping the mouse around in the mean time, it always feels awkward when the character recovers and has to adjust or runs in an arc to meet the view you're camera is telling it to. This and other similar fates will definitely be an issue if there are no changes to the engine, and judging by some of the other posts in this thread regarding the port and its features, I suspect this will remain the case.
But I definitely understand that there's a pretty significant fraction of the interested player base that is getting it because they don't have a console to play it on. And for that I am really happy. I just highly recommend playing it on a gamepad of your choice, if at all possible.

One can only hope.
I remember getting used to playing Devil May Cry with a mouse and keyboard just fine tho, even though I felt like it was never going to work.
|
I ended up playing Arkham City on my PC just fine with a mouse and keyboard even though it was clearly designed with a game pad in mind so I feel like people are over reacting a bit here. Obviously it will be better if you pull out a game pad to play on.
I thought the point of this port was to give people who do not own a console a chance to play Dark Souls but I've been seeing a lot of complaints that the game is being locked into performing just like the PS3 version.
|
Oh god... I just noticed they capped the internal framebuffer at 720p as well.
I guess I'll be sitting far away from my monitor while playing this thing.
|
Damn i was really hoping they'd make it run smoother and nicer in the PC version.
Give me a reason to buy it for a second time...
|
I'm actually still going to buy it. I mean.. we kind of knew that it was going to be a shit port, simply because nobody in Japan has probably ever programmed for games on PC :D They don't have the know-how.
If the sales are good, they will get guys with know-how.
Anyways I would buy it either way since I don't have a PS3 anymore.
