I am a PC only player and I mostly only play online competitive games.
During the Steam Summer Sale I bought Darksiders (on recommendation) for $3.99. I hate it. I really don't care for that style of game at all. Is Dark Souls similar to DarkSiders action-y based story game or is it more RPG/action? Anyone familiar with these games can give me some good information?
You will love Dark souls if you enjoy online competitive games, the combat system in Dark souls is Action RPG with a high skill cap. You have to think out how you will play and approach a situation in both PvP and PvE, in both situations you will be frustrated at first before you get use to it though.

You can't play Dark Souls like DarkSiders (hack 'n slash/rushing gameplay) because you will die. If you like gameplay that requires you to think and plan out your path very carefully, Dark Souls is a game for you.
thanks guys! Preorder on steam! I can't wait!

Did they do any sort of balance changes or tweaks since a month or 2 after console release? The PvP in Dark Souls was pretty inferior to Demon's Souls at first.

they nerfed pyromancy a long time ago,but the pvp remains inferior since the lack of some standard / cool demon souls weapons. edit : also, poise is retarded :/ its still good tho, especially since there are no anti backstab rolls.
i miss demon souls

Finally beat Dark Souls two weeks or so ago, after buying it on release. I never really "quit" playing it, but other games came up and Dark Souls can of course be frustrating at times. Definitely thinking of buying it for PC as well since awesome games like this deserve support and I can't wait for a sequel.
To everyone who is on the fence about buying it: It's really simple. Do you like difficult rewarding games? If yes, this is worth every penny. If not, I would be a bit weary. It's basically a game where you have to go "I can die at every turn and lose some important stuff, but that can be grinded back and if I die, I'll just try again".
As for PvP, it has been tweaked a lot since release and while some people still find ways to abuse it in annoying ways, it's very rewarding. Personally I was only invaded twice (in the painted world when I had only the last boss left to kill), I was invaded twice in a row just before the boss... pwned them both and went on to kill the boss, and there's probably nothing more satisfying when it comes to PvP in the whole world because you know that it's just up to you and him (unless you heal up, which is frowned upon by the PvP community).
Please god, have some company make an Elder Scrolls/Dragons Dogma like game with Dark Souls combat system and PvP, or even an MMO with it. Basically, every single game with melee combat should copy Dark Souls.

I thought Dragon's Dogma had a highly praised combat system? I know Elder Scrolls definitely hasn't lived up in that area and I don't know how it can improve due to being a first-person game.
I'm really glad PC is getting the game, but I wish the added content would be coming to consoles sooner than Winter. I just finished getting the Dark Soul achievement, so I don't have much incentive to play the game until the new content drops, I'm looking forward to going up against Artorias. Took me a hundred hours to do so though, so if you're wondering what kind of length you can expect to complete everything, there you go.

Dragons Dogma had a good fighting system, but it's very different. It's like a beat em up, it's similar to stuff like God of War and Devil May Cry, very buttonmashy (while still requiring skill), but it's nowhere near the "realism" and intensity of Dark Souls, at least IMO. Not saying DS has a much better combat system, just that it's very different and I would love more games to use the DS one.

People on the Steam forums are saying that will be a very bad console port, the worse in this year...no advaced options for graphics, mouse acceleration and stuff like that. Someone knows more about that?

But yes, I doubt massive changes will be made from the console version, Japanese console developers generally don't make amazing ports to PC.

From Soft said that it will not be a great port because they hardly have any experience making PC games which is not surprising considering the PC market doesnt really exist in Japan. But I dont care that much about it because I just want them to see that the PC is a viable platform for their games so they can do something nice with their next game.

so as this will be a bad port, is it worth trying to play on keyboard/mouse or should I go buy a controller?

I am ready with my xbox 360 controller, since it's a GFWL the controller will work good.

Definitely getting this, everyone tells me how hard it is!

Might be a little bit of a stretch, but will I like this if I liked Super Meatboy?

The gameplay is obviously not at all alike, but I would say that you probably would. I have friends who get really frustrated dying and absolutely hate Dark Souls because of it. If you approach death as a learning experience, as you would in Super Meatboy, then you can enjoy DS.
This is by far the most immersive game I've ever played, and I love it to bits. I wish I had bought in on PS3 due to the larger community there, but I enjoyed it a lot on xbox. I think I'll buy it on PC regardless of how the port comes out just as support for FROM. I've been a fan of FROM ever since I played King's Field II (KF2 in America that is) way back in the day.

It depends what you liked about Super Meat Boy. Dark Souls has the same kind of fair difficultly as SMB but obviously the gameplay is nothing alike.
In general though the game is very fun once you work out the systems and is really rewarding beating a boss. I'm actually tempted to get it on PC as well to see the new content (already played through it twice on PS3).
