I think it's better put together than the original SimCity 4. People seemed extremely butthurt over not being able to play the game a lot the first couple of nights after release, and others used it as a soapbox to preach about the "evils of DRM." In reality, it's a LOT of fun for most people. Of all the complaints, city size seems to be the most legitimate, but it's not bad. You can control a bunch of cities, and the size restriction per city makes it challenging in a good way. I thought about buying the game after the server and traffic issues were fixed, but, honestly.. the idea that the sims are not actual simulated people, but rather agents just like anything else is quite discouraging. Your sims go to the nearest available job every day, then go back to the nearest available house, then go to the nearest available commercial building to buy stuff. That just doesn't sound any fun.
you wont notice it in the grand scheme, only when you look REALLY closely. the thing about it is that you actually have thousands of sims and cars moving around your city instead of a few graphs. And when looking at the big picture, it does a very good job simulating the flow of sims.
Its true, they had to cut corners, but i guess they had to be really careful with how much processing a single agent needed. The pathfinder has some bugs in it, but in general i was impressed by how it reallycreates rushhours, those moments when the city slowly wakes up, kids getting to school etc.
It just has a nasty bug where people drive past the destination and cirlce around, but i think next patch might fix this. I bet they work hard on it.

This game is just awesome! It's everything sim city from the snes sim city. Haven't thought it would be that great! thankfully, i bought it after the launch problems. Played like... 10 hours max so far. The game doesn't go into numbers too deep, but then it would be way too hard to keep track on so all the data ingame. If you use all the hints given by the game, almost nothing gets out of hand. For people who are new to simcity, i would say, one needs a minimum of 10 hours playtime, to try to enjoy one city at its fullest.
9/10 5/5
totally worth its money so far! Server problems aside

w00t got into hanabi
and as an honest review
this is super simple sim city
its almost like d2 => d3 only sim city 2013 isn't as bad
i'd give it a 70 or so but with updates to interface and challenges/bugs etc it could be about an 85 easy

i havnt tried yet but how do you get into hanabi? assuming its a region, there's X number of slots right? if all those are taken, no luck?

does anyone know why i have random massive waves of pollution flying over my city?
its a tourist city with no industry and the pollution is so bad that people move out of their houses, wtf.

I feel like I have a pretty good coverage of parks, because sims can't get enough of that shit, so I have a decent distribution of low->high wealth, but all my shit gets stuck on medium density. Is it just a matter of time before it goes to high density? I run into the problem where my income gradually decreases as I provide more services to my needy sims, and they respond very unfavorably to tax hikes in order to compensate. I get to the point where my density isn't increasing, but now I don't make enough money to really do anything about it (especially without Cheetah Speed).
Any advice? I may be covering too much land too quickly, is there a benefit to zoning less and gradually expanding your city to fill the space? I also try to upgrade the density of my roads as soon as I can, both for ease of traffic and to help with my zoning density. It's a matter of time usually, density depends alot of happiness parks and things that give positive land value in general get it done to make sims happy. But sometimes things like high taxes etc can keep them down, as long as happyness has the >> arrows saying it's going up it's a matter of time. Else it also depends on road density and spacing.

happiness is mainly gained my shopping. parks increase landvalue, which only affects the wealth
awwww us west 4 is full is there still space in the region?
|
parks actually do effect happyness people are happy when their land value goes up haha it's too plop down a park and watch the happyness in a building go up. Also things like mayor manson upgrades adds happyness all around etc.
|
yeah ok, but thats a sideffect. you dojnt plop parks and schoolstops for happiness.
BTW, can you guys keep an eye out? i suspect them damn trees to create pollution instead of removing it. Especially those big forsts off the city grid. Watch the city in air pollution view a bit and compare to the trees.
maybe im paranoid :D
But there is definately pollution coming from somewhere.

Only thing I can think of is, are you doing regional play? Your town could be upwind of another player's industrial buildings. I noticed that problem too, I always build Industry so the wind takes the pollution away (as I suspect most do).
But I claimed another city upwind of my first one and noticed the pollution from the first town blowing into my second town.

Contradiction....
So this city I am really slowly building and trying to keep all my needs met as in 100% jobs filled 100% shoppers satisfied, and 100% students served. It works much better than what I have done in the past, just throwing shit down.

Search for a player that is in that region. You can search mine, which is "Kappuccino". Then click on recently played, which will link you to Hanabi. There are still some spots open.

Is the wind always blowing in the same way? convenient if so ^^

What I think is the most odd about this is, why doesn't Maxis just go out and say something like "We will improve X and Y in the next patch and our goal is to allow bigger tile sizes within Z months". There's so many issues with the game and it's expected that they will fix them, so why don't they just say so? I bet it would improve sales a lot.
|
|
Hanabi isnt full btw. Like 4 spots left open.
|
If it turns out that there is basically no reason for the online except for DRM, what would happen to EA/Maxis? I am imagining gamers with pitchforks at EA's doorsteps.
EDIT: I mean, it is something that many have suspected for a long time. But if it is found out to be true that it was an outright lie the whole time... the anger would be crazy.
