In that case nothing will have changed with original BG, you ignore the sucky new thing, and nothing has changed. But it could also NOT suck, and then we get an awesome new game. To me, you can win, but you can't lose, so i don't see any problem.

More likely to become a cover-based shooter though, with heavy focus on gay romance and a generic save-the-world plot ![]() Naw, by this point I'm thinking it's questionable to have pre-rendered-3D/isometric-2D. The problem is it takes a lot more resources to develop, and generally results in a poorer customize-ability, or even detail. All you need to do is make it real time 3D and fix the camera angle (although not much point of fixing the camera angle). Well, at least the moving/animated objects make sense to be in 3D — I guess having the landscape pseudo-3D could work quite well. I can think of 2 games that I think used such a method that looked really nice: Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor, and Revenant. They weren't released too much later than the early infinity engine games, but had absolutely amazing graphics in comparison. I would love to see more games using that sort of blend — the style/technology has existed for the longest time (originally games like Alone in the Dark and later Resident Evil — although those were done in ways that weren't modular, so overall still different), but I never saw many games that used it to a degree where the graphics looks REALLY great but also remain modular. The two that I mentioned earlier are the only two I can think of right now.

Having a series where, for the most part, you don't have to say 'it's great just ignore X' is a nicer thing than saying 'it's great until X, now it sucks'. I'd rather see the same attempt at a game made with a new name entirely.

Aye, 2,5 is the best edition, by far - The following versions are/were way too centered around simplicity and hack&slash - I still play 2,5 with a couple of my friends, we have been playing for 15 years ^^
