Guinness World Records has declared that Call of Duty: Black Ops has the greatest videogame ending of all time.
At least, that's according to 13,000 members of the public who were polled on the best videogame ending ever for The Guinness Book of World Records 2012 Gamer's Edition.
Other games in the top ten include Halo: Reach, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Heavy Rain.
"Everyone has an opinion on how to end a game whether it's an epic boss fight, a clever plot twist or a 90-minute movie," said Gaz Deaves, editor of The Guinness Book of World Records 2012 Gamer's Edition. "This list recognises some of the greatest endings and hopefully will get gamers talking about what are their favourites and why."
Guinness World Records top 10 game endings:
10. Heavy Rain 9. Final Fantasy VII 8. Metal Gear Solid 4 7. Portal 6. Red Dead Redemption 5. God of War 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 3. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2. Halo: Reach 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops
Please leave Blizzard ones out as we've all seen them, and please only post one (your favourite) to prevent the thread from being cluttered up by too many and resulting in people not even bothering watching them to see why they're so good 'cos there's too many to click through... Here is my favourite:
I don't know if this qualifies as a cut scene, but the first time I ever fought a Berserker in Gears of War will forever be one of my most memorable video game moments.
What? Where the hell is the death of Grom Helscream in WarCraft 3? I remember playing that in second grade and crying it was so awesome. Nerd tears... but still.
What about Max Payne cutscenes? Most depressing storyline in a video game ever.
And the end of Half Life 2 ("this is my stop...")? WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE GAMER COMMUNITY?
Besides OoT of FFVII, these are all games from 2005+, most in the last two or three years. This just seems like a popularity contest, as is the inherent problem when polling the "public" where people have select memories of recent games or simply are too young to have played older games.
A Gamer's Edition seems like it could be interesting, but I'd rather they poll the staff members of major gaming magazines and websites. These are among the highest selling games of recent years, nothing more.
This top 10 list is meaningless. Black Ops should not be #1. They should've made it so a hell of a lot more people could vote. 13,000 mean nothing and is nothing.
(1:15+: they actually learned to dance, of course xD)
Just from the technical aspect, Final Fantasy probably fills a lot of space in the "best cutscenes" category, every year. This is one of my favourites. No action, just squall and rinoa getting to know each other.
Funny how that list reflects modern times with such a bias. It does say "of all time" and in which case we know most of those on that list dont even come close...
Come on. That was just a popularity contest and not even for the cutscenes. People most likely just voted for their favourite game. I can do an online poll of the greatest musicians of all time and Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga will probably top it. Doesn't mean they're even close to it. I can see this thread's going to be cluttered with videos, so I won't post any of my favourites (too many anyhow). However, I'll mention an interactive cutscene which stands out in my mind. The opera scene from FF6 is one of my all-time favourite sequences in a video game.
