Could have stayed at Oregon with job security, great pay, and perks. What's interesting about people who already make too much money is that they can't resist any additional amount it seems. 2 million? Not enough. Need more collector vehicles into my 30-car garage. Going from major college to pro isn't about money, it's about an opportunity to apply your craft at the highest level, the pinnacle of your competitive profession, being the best, etc.. Would you expect a pro starcraft player who wins lots of minor tournaments to be content never giving the biggest ones a shot, even if he is well liked and recognized at what he's already done?

Chip Kelly's salary in 2012 was 3.5 million dollars. It was supposed to be 3.8 million in 2013. However, it's possible he could have left to avoid disciplinary action from the NCAA, much like Pete Caroll did when he left USC to coach thr Seahawks. And even if he does get fired in four years and doesn't pan out in the NFL, he'll be guaranteed to get big bucks at another school.

Niners over Falcons: The spread right now is Niners -4 or -4.5. That's about as insulting as it gets if you're a Falcons fan. Still, I'm not sure that it's unwarranted, and I do think that the Niners are going to win. The Niners are demonstrably better than the Falcons in most matchups. I like Niners D vs Falcons O, and I really like Niners O vs Falcons D. I strongly suspect that the Niners offense is going to be able to do whatever the hell it wants on Sunday. Atlanta couldn't get any kind of pressure on Wilson all game long. If Pete Carroll wasn't an idiot, Seattle may very well have won that game had they just unleashed Wilson earlier. The Niners O-line is the best in the business, and the Falcons are depleted up front -- especially without a healthy John Abraham. The Falcons secondary has been porous all year long, and I don't see that trend magically stopping on Sunday. The other matchup that should give Falcons fans pause is Mike Smith vs Jim Harbaugh. There's no question which team is better coached and better suited to making adjustments on the fly. The strength of the Falcons lies in their receiving corps, but again, the Niners are no slouches on pass defense. Though I expect the Falcons to put up some points, I don't think that they are going to be able to keep up with what the Niners are able to do on offense. The Niners have been reasonably good on the road this year, even in tough places like New Orleans and Foxborough. My only concern as a Niners fan this game is the Niners coughing up a bunch of turnovers. I don't expect that to happen. Patriots over Ravens: I don't like this pick. The Ravens played by far their best game in half of a season last week. I don't know whether they did so because they are healthier than they have been in a long time, or if it was just a freak showing. In particular, Flacco played much better than he typically does. However, the Ravens lived and died by the deep ball last week. That was all that they had going offensively, and the Broncos, for whatever reason, couldn't stop it. I have more faith in Belichik to do better. The Ravens will have to be more well-rounded to win. On the other side, Pats fans have a lot to feel good about. Brady and the offense are motoring along, despite injury problems. More importantly, the Pats defense has tightened up considerably over the several weeks, and is looking quite respectable. Their run defense, with Wilfork's big ass clogging up the middle, is particularly good. In summary, this is a game that the Pats should win comfortably. However, the Ravens always play the Pats stupidly tough, so I expect this game to feature more of the same (hence, I would grab the points -- Baltimore +9 or whatever it is). Though I am picking the Pats, I really wouldn't be surprised if the Ravens won.

Aye, and you have to understand the competitive fire, the self-confidence that's needed to succeed at that level in that profession, with that level of scrutiny and attention. It's one thing for one guy who's already tried (and failed) to go to the NFL (which many college coaches no longer do, unless they think they've learned, which is also acceptable), it's another for someone who's never tried to have at least that curiosity, so that at the end of the road they never look back and wonder what if.

Yea its more about trying your skills at that next level and having the confience to make the jump vs haveing secuirty and high success at the level your already at. Reminds me of when Izzo was contemplating trying the NBA ~_~ Thank you Lebron for being a dick to him and then leaving the team

My only concern as a Niners fan this game is the Niners coughing up a bunch of turnovers. I don't expect that to happen. I'm not so sure on this one, though I'd probably take the 49ers anyways. A lot of what San Fran does is based off their ability to run the ball (nobody noticed Gore's something like 4.7 Yards per Carry avg because AP was killing it). Atlanta held Lynch in check last week, and if they can play the run tough against the 49ers well I could see it being a tough day for Kaepernick. Also the falcons corners matchup very nicely against the 49ers WRs. For me in the end, I'm taking the 49ers defense to be the reason San Fran wins- I just don't see Atlanta being too productive on offense. Agree completely on the Ravens v Pats. I think NE wins handily as well, but my mind wouldn't be blown if the Ravens pull it out

Hell, I think they are due for a big game.
