Honestly, it's probably a decent bet since the Saints are on a roll, but man, if there's one team in the league that's Jekyll and Hyde, it's the Saints.
It's a good bet if you think there's like a 55% chance they are in good mode, which is pretty reasonable to me.

Damn! Both teams need this win very badly, but I think the Bears probably more so than the Niners.
I was listening to Mike & Mike the other day, and they were talking about "elite" QB's, and referenced something that Dilfer said about what makes a great QB (player in general, I guess), and that is that when that player is on the field they're playing "above the X's and O's," while a lesser player has to play within the system. Sounds like a lot of sportscaster speak, to me, but it still has a point. Great players make plays out of nothing, while average players rely on the system to create plays.
I'm bringing this up, because they went through the list of QB's that have this ability (this was brought up in the first place in relation to Ben's injury). They got the normal guys, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Manning, Ben, and added in Matt Ryan to the mix (which there is no proof of Ryan being "elite," given that he chokes to death in the playoffs, more like Melted Ice, am I right?). They were trying to think if there are any other guys like this, or if the rest fall into the, sort of, game manager role. Then Cutler's name was brought up. While I wouldn't exactly call Cutler an "elite" NFL QB at this point, he's still pretty damn good. And if there is anyone in the league that has shown his worth more than Cutler over the past two years, I am unaware of this player.
Think back for a second to last year, the Bears were 7-3, poised to make the playoffs, and being talked of as a potential Super Bowl team. Cutler breaks his thumb, the season abruptly ends for the Bears. Now here we are again, Cutler is injured (albeit a different injury), and people suspect that Campbell will be unable to compensate for the lack of protection that the Bears offensive line provides. There are only a couple of QB's that are on par with Cutler's ability to compensate for such dismal protection: Aaron Rodgers is the one name that springs to mind for me. Yet somehow, Cutler is not a QB that "plays above the X's and O's." He's not a future HOF'er as Brady, P Manning, and Brees most certainly are, but he's an above average QB that deserves a bit more respect than being lumped into a group containing guys like Alex Smith (which is what they did).
I guess my point is just to rant about the utter lack of respect the Bears get from pundits (they dropped to 6th in nfl.com's power rankings after a loss to their current #1 team... a close game, which was, for the most part, controlled by the Bears).
And how the fuck is Eli still in these conversations? He's just like Cutler. For the first three quarters he makes some decisions that make you wonder just what the hell is actually powering his brain, for which the answer is often a hamster on a wheel, and then lights teams up in the fourth quarter, inexplicably overcoming all his faults of the first three quarters. Oddly enough, Cutler is the best rated QB in the 4th quarter (at least this season, I'm not sure how far back that goes, but his rating is 132.8 or something in the 4th Q). Eli is the streakiest QB in the league, and apparently he still hasn't picked up anything about proper decision making in the years he's been around. I don't get it. Eli is very good, but imo, does not belong in the same conversation as Brady, Brees, Peyton, and Rodgers. Then again, neither does any other QB...
I guess this is kind of a stupid, incoherent rant, but whatever.

That's crazy. Very close to the same injury that Ammendola had earlier, with the SC joint dislocation, from what I could understand of the interview. [EDIT: I misheard. He had some sort of bruising or sprain on the SC joint.]

Jesus I'd be pooping my pants if i had something that doctors fear could mess with my aorta. Playing football seems like a bad idea for a while...

Has anyone ever played in a FF league that's just a points scored league? Not head to head.
I'm thinking my friends and I should do that next year in my second league, but I'm not sure. This will be the like 3rd year where people with the 2nd and 3rd most points scored (at least so far) have no shot at making the playoffs thanks to their points allowed being laughably high. I think people don't even want to play anymore after being so screwed over so many times, that's the only reason im thinking of a change. SOmething different.
I can't imagine what a non head to head league would be like... I guess each week wouldnt be nearly as stressful since you wouldnt give a shit if you score 130 and your opponent scores 131, but it would also probably take out most of the excitement. Perhaps a head to head "win" could just be us giving you like a bonus 15 points or something? I guess that method would also have its own problems though since it probably means some teams would know they just have no chance of ever winning pretty early on and they wouldnt have the ability to spoil people the rest of the year, thus making it pretty tedious for them.
I'm not really a fan of Roto either but i guess that's an option.

That's why I think the best rule is to have the last playoff team be the highest socring team that did not make the playoffs. FF is 100% out of our control in terms of wins and losses, because there is no defense for this, so we can set a perfect roster, and get fucked because our opponents hit high week every week, and we're hitting second all the time. That team is clearly better than all the others, so it deserves to be in the playoffs. This problem occurs in seemingly every league, every year, and having the final spot go to the highest scoring team to not make the playoffs resolves this problem.

no way roto or any non head to head is dumb as shit. luck is def a part of the game. ive won last year as the last seed at 7-6, with two non playoff teams scoring more than me by a few points. the final was actually me and the other 7-6 team after i spanked the 10-3 1 seed and he beat the other dude who was 8-5
anyway, speaking of fantasy, id really love some more input on that trade i posted on the previous page about giving mccoy to get RG3. I need to decide what to do by tonight on that

I assume that when he got crunched his shoulder pads dug into his side at just the right angle to dislocate his rib, or that when the SC was sprained that hit into a rib and dislocated it. It's rare because you have to be sandwiched to get the necessary pressure and you have to be hit in *just* the right spot for the ribs to be affected.
Defense needs to step up and keep the Ravens at 10-14 points or I can't see my Stillers winning this game =( Byron Leftwich is not going to be leading the offense to 28 points or a game-winning drive or anything like that I just can't see that happening.

I just traded Victor Cruz for Reggie Wayne in 1PPR. Thoughts?
|
Unfortunate timing on the Roethlisberger injury with 3 division games in a row next, 2/3 are Ravens.
Which by the way what kind of schedule is that, 2 games against the Ravens with just one game in between?
|
They should just play the last 2 games of the season vs each other.
These 2 upcoming games will probably stink. Well, maybe not stink but certainly not typical Bal / Pit games. Both of their defenses are shadows of their former selves and of course no Ben. Besides 1 game the last 7 games between the two teams have all been decided by 3 points. That's probably why vegas still only has Bal a 3.5 point favorite this week.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Jason Campbell will replace Jay Cutler as the Chicago Bears starting quarterback on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers, the team announced Friday.
Cutler suffered a concussion Sunday night on an illegal hit by Houston Texans' linebacker Tim Dobbins. He did not immediately display the symptoms of a concussion after the Dobbins' hit and stayed in the game for an additional seven plays before being ruled out at halftime. Dobbins was fined $30,000.
Bears rookie defensive end Shea McClellin, who also suffered a concussion Sunday, will also be held out Monday night.
Campbell relieved Cutler in the second half against the Texans and completed 11-of-19 passes for 94 yards and had one rushing attempt for five yards. Campbell started 70 games for the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders from 2006-2011 but signed a one-year deal with the Bears in the offseason to serve as Cutler's primary backup.

Michael Vick also out, Nick Foles to start.

Probably good for bears fans, better then cutler getting riped apart by niners D, now if that happens blame the back up QB. Although dropping a game is not what either team really can take sense they are both in very competitive divisions. And apparently the rams are magic against division rivals lol although it probably has more to do with amendola getting back in the game, and short of the vikings nfc north teams seem to get better as season progresses.
I feel bad for foles though, a rookie getting such a shitty o line

The thing about most QB injuries, which is also what happened to Ben, is most people don't realize landing on a football REALLY hurts.
In fact, in this case, apparently landing on the football is what dislocated his rib, caused him to roll awkwardly and injure his shoulder.
Also another interesting fact, this SC injury is the exact same injury that ended Favre's consecutive start streak. He only missed 1 week.
This is rather frustrating as a Steelers fan, they looked so amazing against the Redskins and the Giants, played down to KC's level but I'm used to that. But now we got an injured Ben and a banged up RB committee, and 2 of our next 3 games are against Baltimore...
This is going to be a interesting next few weeks for Pittsburgh.

Do I start he Broncos D vs Chargers or Niners vs Campbell bears... gah! Rivers can throw 3 picks 6s a game.

Chad Henne is having an amazing game. Jags might upset the Texans
