Also, I dont entirely get the chop block call (I think thats what they called). Yes the DE was engaged already with the RT, but the RG's block did not appear to be a cut block and hit him in the side. The RG certainly was above thigh level which is all I kind find at the moment regarding how high up the block needs to be.

He should have had more, possibly even a TD.

To be fair, Wilson had some pretty awful drops laid on him that killed two drives.
On the other hand, Sidney Rice was open all game and Wilson just couldn't find him. Definitely not the best game from Wilson.

guys I haven't been watching football very long, can someone explain
1. What was the penalty that awarded the safety? 2. how do you determine the position of the football when its close like that is it the holder's legs? the position of the ball on the field? 3. what is the benefit of declining the safety? sure i guess seahawks could get a crazy touchdown from their own kick but they are ahead 9 points with the safety right?

1. It was a chopblock. 2. The position of the ball on the field 3. They just wanted to end the game.

1. It was called a "Chop Bock" in the endzone. Typlically, offensive penalties that occur within ones endzone result in a safety. More oftentimes seen is Intentionial Grounding calls that result in a safety
2. I assume you are talking about spotting the ball after the catch. The refs have more camera angels available to them and are allowed to use to use multiple angels to piece the spot together.
3. There really was no benefit to declining the safety.

Haha damn it them refusing to take that safety cost me 5 points total in my FF match up. Damn you Harbaugh!

I believe so, as long as the penalty occurred in the endzone it can result in a safety 3. you could just also take the win, which is what they did spike the ball and no risk short of some bull rushing the victory formation, and getting a td off a forced fumble, but that would be 2 things to happen a bit harder than an amazing kick off return. So just take the less risky one

1. it was a high low block, you can't hit low if he is already engaged (hope it was a nice ring) with another linemen up high. because it was in the endzone its a saftey.
2 Comes down to what the ref and replay officails see, if its close it usually stands.
3 easier just to take the knees and take away peoples ff points

Harbaugh went for a situation where he could kneel out instead of a really unlikely drop kick ->fumble recovery for TD->onside kick-> game winning field goal.
It's a really weird rare situation that is like once a every couple decades at best, but there it is.
|
Why are we talking about ff points?!?! The betting line today was SF by 7 and Harbaugh just trolled a shit ton of people out of their money.

Harbaugh gives no shit about anyone's bets. He did the smart thing that mitigated his teams chances of losing as much as he could.
If he HAD taken the safety, then he'd have trolled the other part of the people who better the other side of the spread. No win situation when you complain about spread betting.

I still dont get the chop block call itself though. The RG engage the DE torso, right in the ribs if I saw correctly (which maybe I didnt). That isnt nearly low enough to be called a chop block. Last I recalled you actually had to cut the defensive player which involves hitting them in the thighs.
On a side note, running cut block drills in high school was a real pain in the ass. Its pretty much doing monkey runs in full pads over and over and over and over.

That would have to be a once in a lifetime play sequence. I wonder when the last time something like that has even occurred where a team muffed a kickoff, lost the onside kick, and then had an opponent drive for a game winning FG. Im not sure that has ever happened before in the NFL, if it has it was likely back in the early, early days of american football.

Yeah, but it was possible, and was more likely to end in a loss than the other outcome. Can't blame the guy. Just try to imagine the 49ers team before he took over and you'll see why this attention to detail and game management is the core of why the Niners have had such an amazing turnaround as a franchise.

Oh I get you, but that's a sequence of plays that rivals the terribleness that was the expansion Tampa Bay Bucs. Who as I recall they had a play in which the snap was fumbled, the QB then picked up the fumble and threw an INT, which was then returned for a TD.
Edit - Also agreed on the Harbaugh gifs. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the networks have a camera simply tracking him. His faces are priceless.

the seahawks have to give flynn a chance. they can't hope to be a playoff contender and not even know whats on their bench. it isnt like matt flynn was terrible in the preseason. give the dude a shot and if you dont like it so be it but to continue the season knowing there could quite possibly be someone better on the bench is silly.

I dont think you lay this one on Wilson. He made some bad plays, but those two drops in the first half were absolute killers (and they were "easy" catches). You make those plays with that kind of momentum (like the Seahawks had) and you likely have 7+ points on the board already.
