Please explain Leaping(defense) A defender running forward and leaping in an attempt to block a field goal or a point-after try lands on other players on either team. The penalty is not called if the defender was within one yard of the line of scrimmage at the time of the snap. It is indeed a 15 yard penalty and automatic 1st down.

It's freaking retarded. So they only way to block is to jump only vertically and hope to get your fingertips on it? Yes, I know they try to go for the kicker, but with the whole roughing the kicker penalty in play too, that seems risky as well. And then all the new rules these last 4 years that make QBs untouchable...

The idea of the rule isn't bad, because without it you'd just get guys turning into 15 foot giants by standing on each other, and FG's would become useless. I don't necessarily like the language of it, but... they all know the rule is in place, and should avoid doing stupid things when possible. Even so, they had them stopped again, and D Manning had an even DUMBER penalty against him. The only hope is that the kick has a low trajectory, and you can get a hand on it, or tackle the holder. Texans D is going to need to make some plays on this drive if they want to win. A turnover would be ideal, but a quick stoppage will work too.

The spirit of the rule is to prevent players from using another player as a springboard to jump higher, like what cheerleaders do during their routines. It's very dangerous with all the contact there is. The wording on that rule is terrible, though.

Andrew Brandt @adbrandt Rodgers loves games like these: people questioning him, praising the opponent's defense. Playing to prove the doubters wrong.

I think the rule would be better if it were no considered unsportsmanlike conduct, and did not grant a first down. Most often, a 10 yard penalty will give a first down anyway, I don't think tacking on an auto-first is reasonable though.

That makes the penalty close to useless when the offense is close enough to the goal line. Green Bay should consider resting starters soon on defense. They're losing a lot of players on that side to injury.

I imagine the majority of field goals are kicked on fourth and <10 though, so it would be very useful pretty much everywhere else on the field. And if the kick is blocked from a leap, they get to re-kick anyway.

Sucks, I just hope the injury to Lewis isn't career ending. They still sound pretty optimistic that Suggs will be making a return here sometime. So with that, I think that puts them back there. Offense just needs to continue shining. Either way, lol 49ers, sup Patriots.
