i think shad will win. he much bigger than jones. what? am i crazy? wingspan! height! jones is bigger you say. people said the same thing about phil davis being bigger than shad as well but i think davis was smaller too. just from my perspective guys with womanly hips and fat chests like shad are bigger than stronger than people w/ fitness model bodies like jones.
jones definitely can win. he outlined his game plan; keep shad off him and strike. if he hurts shad with strikes he could make it impossible for shad to muster up takedowns. without a doubt he can win. but i think shad will be able to take down jones b/c he's bigger in some ways and stronger.
this will be a great fight for me to watch. i really don't like phony bones jones. i'll be cheering like a madman if shad wins!

- better wrestling - 'bigger brother' mentality - faster and better technically than anyone Jones has fought - experience, more wily - Jones hasn't ever had to gut out a victory, Rashad has been there (close to losses) many times - Rashad thrives on being the underdog - arguably executes game plans better than anyone other than GSP
To Jones' advantage:
- Evans got beat by a fast guy who uses unorthodox strikes, timing and range, perfect for Jones - Physical advantage (Rashad could fight MW), range height and weight - Confidence
It's going to be a tough one to call but my eventual opinion is that I weigh it 60:40 in favour of Evans.
No way is Evans faster or better technically than Machida. Yeah, I don't know about that 4k heh The only advantage I'd give Rashad is experience. You can call that big brother mentality all you want and he knows what it's like to lose and that's exactly what he's been hammering home. Eventually Long Bones Jones will lose, but it probably won't be to Rashad. He'll make a good fight out of it though! P.S. I like this card, I don't know why people are so mad when they don't see the usual suspects. In fact a lot of these guys are pretty well known in MMA.
I should probably clear up that I forgot Jonny actually fought Lyoto. I've been out of hardcore MMA following for like 6 months. Still watch every event just can't remember them! Lyoto is a better technical fighter and faster than shad. I do still think the rest of my points stand...and when you throw wrestling into the mix it becomes a lot harder to tell than the Machida fight. I think big brother mentality is a valid point...it's happened to me in combat sports before, older guys in the gym just have this self belief that you are the whippersnapper and they SHOULD win and it gives them extra confidence which can really be destabilising. Lyoto is the best fighter Jones has faced and he was at an all time low in confidence. Matyushenko was too, Bader was just crap and completely outmatched by Jones, all he brought was his physique.
Also I forgot to mention that shad completely pasted Phil Davis, made him look like a beginner, even though Davis has comparable strength to Jones. So it's not like he's scared. He completely blew Davis out of the water, and I was happy predicting a shad victory before that bout so I guess I'm still happy to do that here. Jones is better than Davis but mostly because of striking. Btw I have met both guys, both are really nice . I was lightweight at the time of this, I'm exactly the same height as rashad haha. I swear he has serious balls fighting LHW, those guys are so massive.

Jones has a fitness model body?
What the hell?
lol O:
I already got the memo man about you not liking Jones just like a whole bunch of other people which is fine.
I'm banking it will be a good fight too! ;D
I'm well aware what Suga brings to the table that's why I cannot wait for later tonight and nice pics. It should be a great fight.
Yeah, they're both pretty grounded in person too.
Going to be a crazy day of couch potatoeing. Hockey, more hockey, more hockey and UFC. X_X
Won't even bother watching SC2 today.

jon bones jones will destroy rashad on his road to being loved. i swear it.

I'm a bit conflicted about jone's physical build. He has a great upper body and quads, but his lower legs is reflective of his nickname "bones". Do you guys think this is deliberate? It may physically be his only weakness, but because of his height, his opponents may never reach it?
If rashad's gameplan involves taking down jones then I'm going to have to vote for jones. In fact, I don't see rashad winning this fight unless he has evolved as much as his interviews claims.

I want to see them both get knocked out.
That would be great =)
(Mainly rooting for rashad because of Jones "destiny" speech, what a dork)

The worst part is that he has the skills to back up his passive aggressive arrogance.

I see Jones winning round 1 via a rape that quickly turns into a murder, would that be a tko?

My biggest reason for thinking Jones takes this is the change I've seen in Rashads attitude.
A month ago his confidence was in full swing. His energy was through the roof, this was personal and he was quoted as saying things like 'I don't just wanna win, I wanna hurt Jon'. Those sorts of comments are the mental strength that was driving him through this. You could see it in his entire mannerisms, he was full out going to win this.
Recently in the past few weeks, his interviews have toned down a bit. He's reverted to saying much more diplomatic stuff. His answers indirectly state the acceptance that losing is a possibility. He's talking about just enjoying it. Fair enough... many guys go down this route. Rashad used to. But this fight is personal, and we've seen a full swing reversal. I don't think Rashad is all there mentally.
He has changed from wanting to physically murder Jones, to a more... hm I'm not entirely sure how to describe it. His inner fire is no longer there. Sure he got in his face at the staredown but personally, I've always found the way people speak, the emotions, words and conviction say so much more than a mean mug at the weigh ins.
As much as I want Evans to close the distance... pft. He's not. He's not a versatile enough striker, he doesn't throw decent kicks with his left leg at all, just way too one dimensional. His victory over Phil Davis is hardly great, because phil davis isn't that great in all honesty, I don't have him as a future star.
I think Jones will pick him apart with his range, and in all honesty if Rashad ends up on his back, he's done. Poor guard (decent scramble to be fair), tiny limbs, vs fucking dhalism like limbs, and a ruthless top game. God I hope I eat my words though and he pummels Jones.

Maybe it's cause I'm new to UFC and haven't seen a whole lot of fights. But I think this first prelim is pretty good.
